Who’s a Good Boy?
“They are vicious animals,” says the lady who stands ten feet away from any pit bulls she sees. Some people have a negative attitude towards pit bulls as pets; for that they see them as dangerous and aggressive animals. They give pit bulls such a bad name because of the media and terrible stories about them such as using them in ring fights. Most of the individuals who says that pit bulls are vicious are usually the ones who have not owned one and never met one, and they are basing their opinions on what they see on the media. Despite all these bad generalizations about the breed, pit bulls make great family pet, for they are loyal, loving, and very playful.
To start with, pit bulls make a great pet since they are very loyal to their owners. Pit bulls like to please their owners since they like to hear the praises and making them happy. For instance, my pit bull is very obedient, he follows the commands given to him just to you can

tell him that he is a good boy. Having a pit bull means having a best friend for life since they will be there through anything. In addition, pit bulls are not much of a guard dog since they are way too friendly. However, pit bulls will protect their owner when they feel like they are being threatened. For instance, when another dog barks at their owner, they will most likely bark at them back. In addition, I once read about a pit bull who saved his owner’s life by barking and whining at one of the neighbor’s door. Pit bulls would go to the extreme in saving their owners from distress. Likewise, pit bulls will never leave their owner’s side unless they are asked to do so. They are just very affectionate. Moreover, pit bulls are loving and caring animals. They can sense whether their owners are feeling down or having a bad day; and pit bulls try their best to lighten up the atmosphere. According to Vince, a pit bull owner, said that pit bulls are empathetic. To illustrate, Vince says that whenever he gets frustrated and yell, his pit bull, Piccolo, would come over with an apologetic face. Then, Piccolo tries to cheer and comfort Vince even with all he can do is support. Also, pit bulls love cuddles and getting pet. They will cuddle with their owners almost anywhere, keeping them warm whether it is on the couch, on the bed, or even on the lap. Pit bulls will not let owners feel alone, so they run to their owners with their tails wagging and ears perk up letting them know that they are not on their own. In addition, pit bulls are always happy around people. For instance, my pit bull greets me with so much excitement after being gone for hours maybe even minutes. As soon as walks in the room, my dog automatically runs towards me with his tail wagging and starts kissing me to show affection. Lastly, pit bulls are one of the most playful dog breeds.
Pit bulls like to play with their toys and their owners. For example, a pit bull would casually grab one of his chew toys and find a perfect spot near the couch or under the tree, and just start chewing and playing with it. Sometimes, it would even approach its owner with it, so it can play fetch or tug of war. Pit bulls also likes the outdoors. For instance, at the dog park, my pit bull either lays in the sun, runs around chasing birds or other dogs, and of course his favorite rolling in the dirt or mud. Likewise, pit bulls are athletic dogs. They like to exercise whether it is walking or running around the neighborhood. On this note, it is also beneficial for the owners since it motivates them to get out and get their daily exercise. Additionally, pit bulls love meeting new people and other dogs, for they like to socialize with everyone. Whether it is at a park or the house, pit bulls will always ask a person or even another dog to play with
them. In contrast to the generalized belief about pit bulls being an aggressive breed, pit bulls make an exceptional family pet and even as a best friend. Pit bulls can make an individual feel safe and happy, so they should not be given such an awful reputation. Pit bulls live joyfully, gratefully, and love unconditionally. One should really get to know what it is like to have a pit bull before he or she make a conclusion about such a wonderful dog breed.
The reason why Pit Bulls are aggressive is because it’s their nature and that’s the way they’re born. Everyone that is afraid of Pit Bulls says it’s the dog's fault and that it's their nature to fight and kill, but honestly it’s the owners fault for making them that way. “‘Though Pit Bulls have strong jaws and, like most dogs will hold onto their prey after biting it. There is no evidence that a Pit Bulls jaw are anatomically different from those of other breeds’”(Lallanilla). They are more likely than any other breeds to grab a hold of something and shake it. The reason why
The way the dog is raised rounds out their character and general temperament. According to the “American Temperament Test Society: Pit bulls pass temperament tests 84.1% of the time, which ranks them slightly better than golden retrievers (83.8%) and cocker spaniels (81.7%), and well above miniature schnauzers (78.6%),” (The Biting Truth). Myths have generated atrocious attitudes towards this breed for years. The nature of the dog is a protector to children and the bulky build of pit bulls makes them a very easy breed to target. These opinions have severely skewed the reputation of pit bulls that were originally bred to be nanny dogs and take care of small children....
To begin with, pit bulls, like all other dogs, have a tendency to bite. According to the ASPCA, if a Pitbull is socialized to both people and other dogs, they are less likely to be aggressive. Just like people, pit bulls need to know how interact with other living things. If a Pitbull is chained outside and never
Thesis Statement: Pit bulls are like any breed of dogs that needs to be handled properly by their owners because they can be taught to be less aggressive and more loyal.
Owning a pit bull in today’s society people normally have one of two reactions: Either people love them or is frightened of them. There are many myths about pit bulls, which people confuse with the actual truth about this dog breed. A common myth about a pit bull is that they have locking jaws. However, people who fear pit bulls or have little knowledge about them base their opinion off of what others say. But, pit bulls do not have locking jaws, they have powerful muscles in their jaws that enable them to keep it closed an make people believe that it is locked up. Additionally, supporters of pit bulls know that these days are very powerful and have intimidating appearance, but these dogs are not “killer machines” as the media portrays them to be. Pit bulls are just like any other dog. It depends on how a pit bull or any dog is raised by their owner to determine the characteristics of the dog. I have raised my dog CoCo since she was a little puppy and she is just as sweet as she can be.
There are a lot of facts and information about pit bulls that the public does not know. The media blows things way out of proportion with this breed of dog and doing simple research can shed some light. “There are three main types of ‘pit bulls,’ they are the Staffordshire Bull Terriers, American Pit Bull Terriers, and American Staffordshire Terriers” (Pit Bull Rescue Center). The Staffordshire bull terrier is originally from England. When it was brought over to the states it was bred with other terriers and the American Staffordshire came to be. Often times people classify dogs that look a certain way as pit bulls, when in fact they are an entirely different breed or a mix of some sort.
Pit Bulls are without a doubt my favorite dog, I adore them. Pit Bulls are very well tempered, loyal, and resilient animals. Bred for big game hunting, Pit Bulls are strong, fierce animals and people who have the wrong intentions for ownership should never own them. I am a strong believer that a potential pet owner should do lots of research before getting any type of animal, without exception. Owners should do as much research before getting a dog as they do in planning for a new home or any other new family member. One of the main things to really think about and understand is your intentions for your selection of an animal with the breeding of the Pit Bull. If you choose a dog with the wrong intentions, specifically a Pit Bull, you will get a dog that behaves aggressively and is dangerous. This owner behavior is what has caused the current plight of the Pit Bull today, where laws have been passed in thirteen states and hundreds of municipalities, as well as every U. S. Military base, banning the ownership of the breed and forcing shelters to euphonize Pit Bulls within 24 hours. These laws are unjust and cruel, and victimize the breed based on the owners’ behavior. I also argue that the blame for the epidemic proportions that the laws have reached is 100% the fault of owners who purposely acquired the Pit Bull with the intention to abuse and fight the dogs, and that these owners are the ones who should be punished, not the dogs. (Davis)
They will play many dog games with children without hurting them. They strive for the love of “their humans.” These dogs could also be great therapy dogs to those they care about. Pit bulls can keep people company and take their minds off whatever is bothering them. This breed also has a face that allows them to smile.
If you were judged solely because of your race, how would you feel? The answer, most likely, is a negative one. Pit bulls, a breed of domestic dog, are victims of harsh stereotyping and unfair judgement. Many people believe the dog is naturally aggressive, but that is far from the truth. The breed does not matter, the size does not matter, and the age does not matter. The key factor on how a dog behaves, is, believe it or not, the person who raises it. Pit bulls are not a dangerous breed of dog.
I don’t think it is fair to conclude all pit bulls are “vicious” based on the actions of one. I believe towns should punish the deed not the breed. For example, my dog’s previous home had to surrender her because one of their neighbors calling the local city office and complaining that they thought she “looked” like she may hurt one of their children. If she was a teddy bear dog, there wouldn’t have been an issue. Second, not all dogs are raised by the same owners; therefore, they have different attitudes and personalities. Some pits are not as fortunate as others to have nice homes and owners; however, this is true with other breeds of dogs as well. When they have nice owners, they are proven to be loyal, strong willed, obedient, stubborn, and
It is the bad owners that give the pit bull a bad name. Contrary to that popular belief, dangerous animal behavior is the function of inherently dangerous dog owners, not inherently dangerous dogs. One fact that supports this is that pit bulls are the dogs most often shot during drug raids(TELLINGS v. Toledo). Besides the pit bulls that are owned by drug dealers for status symbols and protection, many pit bulls are owned by people that breed them for fighting. These poor dogs have a very slim chance of living a normal and happy life. This is not the fault of the dog, but the fault of the owners that should not have the dog, or should care for them better. The dogs that are forced to fight and are conditioned to defend themselves or die. When these dogs get loose, everything is a threat to them and they defend themselves in the name of survival. If golden retrievers were bred and raised with the sole purpose of fighting to the death, they would be just as dangerous as pit bulls. On the contrary, if all pit bulls were bred and treated as family dogs, they would have the same reputation as golden retrievers, if not better as the statistics found in the temperament test above
There are many different qualities to consider when choosing a dog. Pit Bulls have all the qualities needed to become a great companion. Although, if you treat them wrong when they're growing up there is a good chance they will get out of control. If you raise them right you will have one of the best dogs ever. For example my friend had a Pit Bull that he would hit for no reason and one-day the dog attacked him and hurt him pretty bad. This is a good example of why you should treat your dog right. From my experience raising a Pit Bull I have come to believe they are the best bread of dog. As with any dog you need to raise and treat them right. Naturally they are loyal, smart, strong and courageous.
Imagine your a little child sitting on your driveway, and then a pit bull comes up and attacks you. You have to go to the hospital, doesn't sound fun for an eight year old, does it? A lot of people think that pit bulls should be banned for that reason, they are dangerous. A lot of people also think that pit bulls are important too, and they shouldn't be banned. A ban on pit bulls is the best way to keep people safe.
Usually, the media only reports bad things about pit bulls without ever showing the good of pit bulls. This makes these dogs look down upon by people who have never been around or cared for one. Not only does this make them have a bad reputation, but it makes pit bulls least likely to be cared for or owned just because of that. Many people often say that even though some are well-behaved, most of them are dangerous and should be banned from being owned. Their defense to back this argument up would be because that pit bulls are “bred” to be killers, that they attack more than any other breed, and that they especially put their owners at risk because they are more likely to attack them than others. Most people that say this are not very informed of what a pit bull really is. These dogs are no different from other breeds and many people who own a pit bull know that. Many other people are not aware that pit bulls have many traits that make them like any other dog. These traits make them to be great service dogs, and just like any ordinary dog, to be the great pet that they can be, they also need to be respected and well cared for like any other
They were normally bread to be working dogs. Pit bulls were a sense of pride when America had world war 1. “ A dog saved a pluton of by forcing them of a gas attack .” A dog was the inspiration for the militaries k-9 corps.
