Think of a world where every decision was made entirely by yourself. Think of a world without a government looking out for us and steering us in the direction that is best for us. A World like that would be utter chaos, but we might be closer to it than you may like to believe. Americans like to blame the government for their problems, but in reality they won’t even allow the government to step in and fix simple problems such as obesity in America. Americans would rather refuse help from the government, on the grounds that it takes away from their free will, when it would only take the government 3 steps; regulating the meals of the children in America, Keeping Kids Active, and providing Alternatives to the Fast Foods Restaurants to the General …show more content…
Kids would have no other choice but to eat the food that is set before them. However, there are various ways for a kid to get the credit for Physical Education in today’s schools; ROTC, Dance, even Marching Band. Many would argue that those are not the equivalent to playing a sport such as Football, Soccer, Basketball, or Powerlifting and they would be right. These requirements need to be altered so that it is fair and beneficial to all students. I believe that most students at a young age should be involved inside of a sport, if not they will write it off as them not being as athletic as other kids and will turn to sitting on the couch. Instead they need to force kids to be in some type of sport at a young age and force them to get involved and stay active. Most American Parents would say “But why must my kid be forced to play a sport that he hates all of his life?” as a Rebuttal. This solution isn’t permanent. This is simply to get kids up and involved at a young age and keep them active. If they truly do not like the sports that are available, in the high schools a basic Physical Education course should be offered. One that actually gets the kids up and active. I’ve seen too many PE classes with kids just walking around a gym. They need to be up playing dodgeball, running, and playing catch otherwise it is meaningless. As Michelle Obama, Current First Lady and Dean of dean …show more content…
It’s the government providing the public with the options to eat healthy even when they are not in school. As David Zinczenko, the editor-in-chief of Men’s Health Magazine, once said “Drive down any thoroughfare in America, and I guarantee you’ll see one of our country’s more than 13,000 McDonald’s restaurants. Now, drive back up the block and try to find someplace to buy a grapefruit.”(392) He is very true in this statement. Most people flock towards the fast food restaurants simply because it is so convenient for them. They can go through a drive-thru on their way to work, a meeting, home, or on break. However, they can’t simply go outside and buy an orange from a street vendor that doesn’t exist. This is more of a long term goal because of two reasons. It is unrealistic for the government to go out and simply build whole food stores. And you have to let the current Generation of Children get to the age where they become more independent. They have to be able to make the decisions for themselves. If not you are put back in the situation where you eat what is set before you. You have to be able to go out and purposely pass up a Whataburger on your way to a Walmart for a few oranges instead. This is encouraged by what is being taught in the schools as well. If the kids are forced into healthier eating habits as a child then it becomes a habit. Once this habit is developed it becomes normal and it will then
Schools with enormous food courts where students can buy meals and drinks from commonly known franchises, such as McDonalds and Coca-Cola, are the schools with the most health problems. Fast-food franchises are showing up everywhere, but do these businesses belong in high schools? No! Schools are here to enlighten students for life after school. If high schools promote bad eating habits by placing fast-food franchises in their cafeterias, then how can students eat right and healthy beyond high school.
This concedes that now America is creating health issues from consuming unhealthy foods. According to, “The battle against fast food beings in the home”, by Daniel Weintraub, “Kids eat unhealthy food and sit in front of the television or computer for hours at a time”. The article states that now obesity has affected many kids in America. Due to obesity affecting many kids in America the argument here is that, parents are not thinking about their child’s health and how it affects their body. Their main worry if the food is cheap and that it’s reasonable to buy for their family; which is understandable. Thus, many kids health are in danger from the lack of a nutritious diet. At the same time, fast food companies believe that it’s not their fault. According to Daniels Weintraub’s article, it states that “ It’s the parents, not the government, not the fast food companies who are responsible for teaching kids unhealthy habits” (Weintraub 1). The argument here is that parents need to try to feed their kids much healthier diets such as vegetables. Feeding them fast food is going to wreck their health. For this reason, fast food companies should try to sell healthier food for a reasonable price. Having produce companies sell more affordable fruits and vegetables will clear this problem. This will allow people who don’t have much money be able to provide a healthy dish
