Throughout the United States, there are a lot of individuals who experience peer pressure. Peer pressure usually happens around the time when children are turning into an adult. Many children struggle to say “No” when many individuals keep encouraging them to try something that could be bad for them. For example, a twelve year-old girl is hanging out with her friends and they are smoking cigarettes, they keep asking her, “come on, if you don’t try it, then you are not cool,” so the twelve year-old girl eventually tried a cigarette. On the 9th of November, I interviewed two college students about how they was peer pressured as an adolescent. Kelsie Brooks, a sophomore at East Tennessee State University, she experienced peer pressure when …show more content…
They explained that their friends never forced them to act in a hostile or unfriendly matter towards another individual. Friends who force you to act in this manner should not be your friends at all because why would you treat someone in a bullying manner if that is not how you want to be treated. These two are kind hearted, they would not act this way even if they were encouraged to act in an antisocial way. Also, did you give into these types of peer pressure? What, if any, consequences did you experience as a result? Kelsie and Michael both gave into peer pressure. They are not proud of themselves for giving into the pressure and encouragement their friends kept giving, but each person learns from their mistakes. However, they did not have any consequences from their parents because they hid it from them. Although they did not have any consequences from their parents, their body gave them the consequences they needed. Kelsie had a huge headache the next morning and vomited all throughout the night. Michael had sores in his mouth around the gum area because of the constant use of chewing tobacco. Did you ever experience peer pressure that went against your personal beliefs? If so, how did you handle

In 1692 many people died during the Salem witch trials; which were in effected greatly by peer pressure. It started off when the girls of Salem ran off into the night and went dancing in the forest. Then when the girls were caught some of the older girls threatened others and some just had great influence on others. For instance, Abigail started accusing random women of witchcraft and the other girls did it to, just for the excitement. Peer pressure can lead to all sorts of behavior.

One should remember that not all peer pressure is bad, although that is mostly what you see today. Good peer pressure needs to be done more, because why would you want to make someone do something bad, instead of helping them do something good and impacting them, because honestly who would want a worse world rather than a better one? Truly the way to improve our lives as human beings lies on peer pressure, it is at the core of ways we can make a change for a better, and not more for the
... instead of following the majority. The issue of peer pressure can relate to teens, as they are in constant pressure to be ‘cool’ or to be in the ‘in’ group. It does not really promote individualism, so people cannot develop their own ideas but rather follow the leader of their group.
“The surest way to corrupt a youth is to instruct him to hold in higher esteem of those who think alike than those who think differently.”(Friedrich Nietzsche) In the novel The Perks of Being a Wallflower by Stephen Chbosky, the three main characters Charlie, Sam and Patrick illustrate peer pressure throughout different perspectives. Charlie is exposed to new things that allow him to mature and grow. Sam has experiences a pressure upon herself to keep up with her reputation although she began to realize right from wrong. Patrick is forced to keep his sexuality preferences private that subsequently may cause him harm. Peer pressure can help a person develop and grow as an individual. However, too much peer pressure can lead to a person losing sight of their identity.
This is an example of peer pressure, when something doesn’t feel right and you don’t want to do it anymore, but others convince you to
Peer pressure is something most people can’t avoid because they still want to have friends and make them think that they’re cool. Friends can sometimes be a good thing to have and also a bad thing, friends can support if family doesn’t, always be there for you no matter what, have someone to talk to when you can talk to family; you can have fun with and be yourself. And when you’re leaning more to your friends because its trouble at home and you need to escape or because your parents are being too strict for that child and they’re wanting to rebel. That could be a bad thing, that child will end up doing something they are not used to be doing or in the wrong place at the wrong time. Children like to test the waters, they like to be bad, be sneaky and not get caught. Because if their parents say do not go out somewhere, do not hang out with so and so, do not hang around that neighborhood, do not do this and this is where the child’s questions come into play, they want to know why can’t they go? , they want to see for themselves and find out things their parents won’t tell them. Well in this situation there are no parents are around and if they are they don’t talk or interact with their child so the child has to find for themselves or even if they don’t want to find out their friends will either peer pressure them into tagging along or they’ll lie to them saying that they’re going somewhere else that they’ve been warned about. Children and adults are nosey and like to see things that their not supposed to. So when someone says don’t look everybody going to look because its natural reaction just as when you tell a child don’t do this and they turn around and do it anyway , it’s just a natural reaction. Children can up end in situations that you would question yourself and ask how is that even possible? And it’s because of parents negligence and going to friends outside or at school thinking of things to do just
Peer pressure is the influence from members of one’s peer group. Peer pressure affect many school aged children, and teenager, because of the desire to want to fit in. Affects of giving into peer pressure can lead to taking drugs, drinking alcohol, and having sex. By researching
done before in positive or negative way. Teenagers experience peer pressure every day from their friends,
“Why fit in when you were born to stand out?” (Dr.Seuss). Society often thinks of peer pressure as a negative implement. Often times the community imagines peer pressure as teen influencing one another to experiment with drugs, alcohol, and sexual intercourse. But really all peer pressure is, is the encouragement of changing values and behaviors of an individual. Peer pressure can be thought of as positive for teens, because it allows and individual to become a leader in an environment, strong encouragement to work hard in school, and lead a healthy lifestyle.
A persons behavior is greatly affected on peer pressure and influence. Peer influence is defined as “when you choose to do something you wouldn't otherwise do, because you want to feel accepted and valued by your friends”(Peer pressure and influence:teenagers). Peer pressure is defined as “social pressure by members of one’s peer group to take a certain action, adopt certain values, or otherwise conform in order to be accepted” (Dictionary.com). Peer pressure can either be negative or positive. Negative peer pressure tends to make people do things that promote bad behavior, such as cigarette smoking, truancy, drug use, sexual activity, fighting, theft, etc.
For some people peer pressure may come from you directly, this may be because you are feeling different than everyone else even if they are not suggesting you join. Other times groups of friends can have certain activities and habits they do together. If you find that hanging out with people who tend to do things you wouldn't normally do and you feel unaccepted unless you follow through, "get out" so you don't fall into the pressure to "fit in"
When you are a teenager and you have friends that ask you to do something for them and you do not then they get mad. Then think you are a loser and that is ever person's nightmare, to not be liked. Peer pressure is no piece of cake. It is like choosing the wrong thing for what you think is right at that very moment, and then regretting it afterwards, because your parents find out. But most would not care about what they do wrong or right. Unless there is a chance of parental disappointment, and a lot of the time that is the case.
Peer pressure is a real thing that happens, but I don’t think it happens how it is shown on movies. Our peers put the pressure on us to have the right clothes and shoes to wear, but I have never had someone pressure me into doing something I don’t want to. Bullying is a more of a verbal problem nowadays. I feel like back when my parents went to school it was more of the “Give me your lunch money or I’ll shove you in a locker,” kind of bullying. Now it is more verbal and trying to hurt people on the inside. The other day another student and I were just talking she then made a sign at me in Sign Language, and I said “I’ll just be the bigger person here,” and she responded with “Yeah, but not better looking.” Why she had to say that, I have no idea, but I just tell myself “If that is what helps you sleep at night, then so be it.” Rumors are a big thing too. In the seventh grade, a girl started this rumor about Kayla and I, and then she herself asked us if it was true after she spread it through the whole school. I have never been one to have to prove myself in those situations, but it was seventh grade and really
