I wanted to address the "party school" reputation. So here it is, it's long!
Hey guys I just wanted to put my 2 cents into this conversation. I have recently attended OU for school. If you are going to OU instead of schools like Ohio State and Miami etc. because it’s a better “Party School” you may be disappointed depending on what you expect from a “Party School”. Any school can be a party school, it just depends on who you hang out with, and it may just be easier to party at OU because of how the town and campus is set up. Obviously, if you go to school like at UC in Cincinnati, there are many obstacles when it comes to party for example, long distances to go parties and bars, more expensive bars, taxis, and crime. I have been at Ohio University

for several years and it has changed a considerable amount, mainly because of the administration and Athens City officials including the police department. First off, Miami was ranked higher than us in the party school rankings last year. It makes sense, on average students there have more money to spend and Greek life is big at Fiami, therefore better parties and parties more often. Ohio State has been ranked before, but not recently and they have plenty of things to party about. What makes Ohio University stand out from most schools when it comes to partying is “Fest Season”, HallOUween, #Fest, 18 bars on one street, and the openness of parties. Recently many of these party school events and traits have changed as well as the culture. “Fest Season” has diminished greatly since we have transitioned from quarters to semesters. Some of the reasons are instead of having Fest in May for the most part they are in March and April. This means more rain and colder temperatures, not exactly the type of weather you want for an outside party. Also School is more challenging during semesters, which equals less time to party. Tuition has gone up so there is less money to party. There are only Fest in the spring now, which I don’t understand because there is plenty of time in the fall to party. The school and city have cracked down on partying and focused more on Athletics mostly and a little on education advancement lol, you will understand what I mean when you start hearing about all the wasted money the administrators misuse. Fines for trash violations, noise and party violations have all increased and become stricter. For example, if you live off campus and get three party violations you have the chance of serving jail time as well as up to 1000 dollars in fines. The noise ordinance has gone from 12am to 10pm during the week and 2am to 12am during the weekend and someone doesn’t even have to complain for you to get a fine…. The Fest were shut down 3 to 4 hrs earlier this year than last year. The winter is basically worthless now for off campus parties unless you personally know someone or you are lucky and find a party after walking around in below freezing weather. #Fest has recently changed policies to allow less drinking and increased ticket prices. Next year there may be no drinking allowed at #Fest because it is getting to big and the city can’t handle the attendees. The price for guest during Halloween has become so expensive that it may not be worth it for many and the dorms are very strict that weekend. Parties have become less open because of the new laws and fines. Let’s get to the positives about the Ohio University’s party scene.
Fest Season is still a thing and your class can keep the tradition going through political action, helping upper classmen with parties and throwing your own parties when you move off campus. HallOUween is unique. #Fest is the largest college music festal in the world. Santa Fest has recently become a large event on Court Street every year, which is fun and others schools don’t participate in it. Recently random fest have been created because of school being off for example, we have had Freeze Fest 2 years in a row and Fugitive Fest one year. Green beer day is just as fun as it has always been. You can always find people in the dorms to party with as long as you are a pro at not getting caught or have a good relationship with your RA. The bars are always packed and fake ID’s are easy to come by and work for most people. Even though we may have less parties now and they may have become more closed to random people we still have a very accepting and genuine student community, better than most schools. #BobcatNation. One other option is joining Greek life, they always have social events to go too. Last, but not least, remember above everything at least yOU don’t go to
Miami….
I decided to analyze and examine the social structure of the Greek System in Syracuse University mainly out of curiosity. When I was high school I remembered hearing from various of my former classmates, who were then freshmen at college, that one of the best activities students experience were attending the “frat” parties students threw. In high school, I thought that college parties were the same as the ones found in movies like “American Pie” so hearing people speak so fondly of college parties confirmed my beliefs of what the social aspect of college was. Now that I’m a freshman at Syracuse University, and have experienced the social atmosphere firsthand, I’ve noticed how different the social scene on campus really is in comparison to the movies and how it is greatly enhanced by the Greek community.
Many parents tend to question if they or their child is ready for early college. They fear their child isn’t mentally or emotionally focused to go off to college by themselves. What they don’t realize is students going to college early bring about better jobs, connections, opportunities, and a better experience.
I was 18 years old and still going to high school when I first visited a university and experienced the real college life for a weekend. I was completely naive in that world and had no idea about how diverse and distinct from reality it was. But there was something that really caught and continues to trap my attention about my visit to this peculiar school: fraternities and sororities. I had not known what they were, until my visit made their concept clear. Even though I was not an integral part of them, I could see what they were all about. I would define each one of them as a separate subculture with their own rules and rights.
The education system has been changing in recent years and the same problems that existed continue to get worse as years pass. Problems that were seen as minor at first have now grown. How to change the public higher education system has been a major topic of discussion but there has still been no major action taken. We struggle to figure out how much funding is needed for higher education and where it should come from. Our people continue to suffer from an underfunded high cost system. The wealthy minority of people continue to be the only ones accounted for and it is time to change this. We need to adapt to the changes and the costs that continue to rise. It is time to help the struggling middle and lower classes. I believe that the best
Entering college can be intimidating, it’s a whole new different life style, there are new people, professors, and the classes are so much different compared to high school. There are some many ways to get adjusted to the college life, but the greatest way is by joining Greek life, either a sorority or a fraternity. Most people believe that Greek life is dangerous because of hazing that has been going on and the way the media portrays Greek life, therefore it has become a controversial issue. They think that all we do is drink, party and haze the pledges. But what people do not know is when joining a fraternity or sorority it actually helps you do better in school it helps you get better networking and of course brotherhood. Students should join Greek life because it can make them a very successful person, for example “Since 1825, all but three
Community colleges in California should offer two years of free education to students that are responsible. First, by making community college free for two years, struggling low income families can get a two year education at their local community college. By going to a free college people can save money for two years and transfer out to a better college with the money that they have saved. More student will switch from expensive colleges, and come to a less expensive college and acquire their Associate's degree. Next, some of the students will realize that they are going to graduate from an expensive college, and they are going to leave with a diploma and a huge debt in loans. Some people just need an Associate's Degree to get the job that they want and people can get that in two years. For example to become a police officer, people need an Associate's degree, and be twenty one years of age. Last, the crime in the cities will be reduced if community colleges would offer free education. Most people that are in the streets doing bad things are the ones who dropped out of high school because college was going to be too
The United States is a never-ending battleground for issues to fester. We as a group of people seem to only be happy when we are unhappy, and everything is open for conversation of improvement. Others can classify our society’s constant need for change and enhancement, as a curse or a blessing. Nonetheless, the education system in the United States is always a hot topic for people to discuss, as it has not been a success with all of its parties. Yet we strive for perfection as a society and as we do, we look at the groups of people that control the decisions made that influence the masses of students that progress through the system. Who can we blame? Is it the teachers union? Or, are the administrators failing these children? How about the school board? Well if it’s not any of these groups it has to be the government, right?
Aside from this many people still argue that there is not a gap in education. Education is fair, america is fair. If a boy living Chicago, well below the poverty line, wants an education he can get it!
I like to explore a little bit more of the campus every time I am there. Sometimes, I can make a large discovery like finding the gym. Other times, I uncovered something minor like a bathroom. There can be a lot of parties. Some of them are boring because not many people show up or there isn’t anything to do. They can also be extremely fun because there are a lot of people to hang out with. There is a large quantity of things to do such as play games with people, watch something on the TV, eat food, or just talk with people. Those factors make college an enjoyable and adventurous
For kids, having a slumber party is exciting. They get to spend a significant amount of time with their friend and share in their daily life. For both sets of parents, it can be a break. If your child is sleeping over at a friends h...
Education is a huge topic of controversy, society is always trying to reform what we know as education today. Right now, the first 12 years of education are entirely free for students directly, but in the end are paid for by the taxpayers of the town. The question is, why should only grades k-12 be free why not a college education too? On the other hand, there are some exceptions to free schooling at the k-12 levels. The most prominent being, Private schooling, most towns in the United States have at least one if not many private schools. They require a certain amount in tuition for each of its students every year. An example of this, in my town Salem, NH one of the most known private catholic schools is St. Joseph 's. I had a good friend a few years back
For most of the delinquent students got caught from their slightly misbehaving act for the first few times is not really a problem. What they don’t know about is that there is a program that can literarily handle even the most delinquent student must also bow down in surrender. The program is called “Weekend School”, also known for many students as “Hellish Torture School.” It was considered the most terrible and awful program and most students were afraid of. Because they believe that if they get into the weekend school, they have only one percent chance of survive. This programs it only available to most of the South East Asia countries middle school and high school. The purpose is to deal with delinquent students who get caught for their
Meeting people will not be that hard, since most colleges offer a bazillion a lot social events at the beginning of the year. And the friends that students do meet in college you will be surprised as to how close students become to each other. This is mostly due to the fact that they live about twenty feet from them or even closer. Just think how much closer students would be to their friends in school if, to visit them, you just had to walk down the hall at midnight about three doors and walk into their friends bedroom. And you can never hide anything, because the student bedroom could end up becoming the floor social lounge and your bed could end up being the common couch.
Greek life is currently on the rise. There are about “380,000 male undergraduates” that belong to a Fraternity(Bruni). This has been a huge increase of over 50% in the last ten years. Greek life is more popular than it's ever been. The idea of joining a brotherhood that will benefit you not only in college but for the rest of your life is very attractive for young students
Though it's different in many ways from high school, there is still pressure at college to "fit in" and to be liked by others. There is often peer pressure to do things you wouldn't normally do "because this is college" and you are trying to meet new friends. While a trip to Wal-Mart at 3am or staying up late with friends while trying to eat your weight in cookie dough maybe fun new things to try, driving while blindfolded because of a sorority dare or trying cocaine "because this is college" and definitely not good choices. Listen to your common sense.
