In my solemn imagination, I truly ponder what a conversation with the great Maya Angelou would be like in an attempt to define and describe ‘Love’. In the initiation of the dialogue, she would probably retract one of her greatest assertions and exclaim that “Love recognizes no barriers. It jumps hurdles, leaps fences, penetrates walls to arrive at its destination full of hope.” In reply, I would say that love is patient, love overcomes and it’s funny how you say love will basically do any and everything to reach the destination of hope, but in light of this political warfare over LBGT rights through President Trump’s planned executive order of “religious liberty”, it is as if love is not apparent. Under this potential executive order, it would
It means, for one, that equal rights for the LGBT community in the workplace would be diminished. Because of that, it is highly probable that people who embrace gender and sexual identity outside social norms will be plagued with poverty and may be forced to take up degrading jobs like prostitution. Secondly, the religious liberty executive order will allow for violence against the LGBT community. In the same way, extracted from a New York Times highlighting the struggles within the LGBT community, killings have gone up since the legalization of gay marriage, so imagine the increased scope of effect of violence and discrimination, under the “religious liberty” executive order. against people who identify within community. I’ll tell you this, It will certainly be a lot worse. Envision a world like that – a world where there is complete turmoil in the regard of LGBT rights, a world where they are treated as though they don’t belong. It that the type of world we want to live in, a world of hate? Hate is not
Love is the intense feeling of deep affection. For example, feeling a deep attraction to someone. Love doesn’t judge, nor life. Love is patient, kind, and understanding. Love never fails, it always triumph over anything. When you love someone, you fall in love with all of them. You can’t just love the caring and gentle side of them but you have to love the hard edges too, and grumpy moods. You have to love the storm, as well as the sunshine. Love is not always going to be easy but you have to fight if it’s really what you want. And sadly in some cases one person’s love is not enough, and everything just comes tumbling down. Not everyone is going to get their happily ever after. In Silvina Ocampo’s “The House Made of Sugar”, she writes about
... Others believe that courts must be more active and open to expand the ideas of liberty, even if it is required to strike down the majoritarian law in order to protect the minority group from government interference. As with all Supreme Court cases, the meaning of the Lawrence v. Texas will deepen when in the process of its interpretation as well when it is cited by the lower state courts and the Supreme Court itself. In any situation, the decision in the case contains the brave declaration of the dignity and freedom of choice of all homosexual individuals.
Shirley Chisholm was a crucial figure in Black politics, and the first African-American woman elected to the U.S. Congress. She defeated civil rights leader James Farmer on November 5, 1968, and served 7 terms in the House of Representatives till 1982. Also, she was the first woman and person of color to run for President. Chisholm is a model of independence and honesty and has championed several issues including civil rights, aid for the poor, and women 's rights.
Love is powerful and could change a person’s personality. In “The Book of Unknown Americans”, the author Christina Hernriquez tells us the definition of love. It is a book combined with different stories but each story is connected to others. It talks about the immigrants that moved to America with lots of hope, but didn’t end up with a happy ending. The story is about love, hope and guilt and different kinds of emotional feeling. In the book, Mayor has an internal change because of Maribel, and the power of love. He wants to be a strong man who can protect Maribel. He used to be someone who couldn’t defend himself and he changed because of Maribel.
One of the discussions we had in class about Frederick Douglas, pertained to the omission of his wife, Anna Marie Douglas from his writing. Why had he done so, and what did that imply about his view of himself, and his wife? Douglas was an escaped slave who was clearly intelligent; a man who, as many might have said, pulled himself up by the bootstraps and came up from slavery. Married to Anna Marie, who despite having been the one to aid him in his quest for freedom, did not quite meet the social gold standard. In her place, it was proposed that Douglas required a trophy wife, one who could complete the pretty picture of a successful abolitionary Black family. It was not long before we came to the conclusion that there are very real flaws
Love has the power to do anything. Love can heal and love can hurt. Love is something that is indescribable and difficult to understand. Love is a feeling that cannot be accurately expressed by a word. In the poem “The Rain” by Robert Creeley, the experience of love is painted and explored through a metaphor. The speaker in the poem compares love to rain and he explains how he wants love to be like rain. Love is a beautiful concept and through the abstract comparison to rain a person is assisted in developing a concrete understanding of what love is. True beauty is illuminated by true love and vice versa. In other words, the beauty of love and all that it entails is something true.
Homelessness is a condition of people without a regular residence. People who are homeless are usually unable to acquire and maintain regular, safe, secure, and adequate housing. Homeless people constitute a demographically diverse population, and the situation is a critical problem in United States. The homeless are known as “the wondering poor”, “sturdy beggars”, and “vagrants”. This condition often occurs due to poverty, but this is only one of many reasons a person can be homeless. In addition to poverty, homelessness occurs as a result of drugs, mental illness, disasters such as hurricanes, or even domestic abuse. It is not a criminal activity.
Have you ever wondered how some athletes have gotten so good at a certain sport? Have you ever thought about what they did in order for them to get this good? For some the answer is simple; workout and train. But for others the answer is different; the use of performance enhancing drugs such as steroids. There are some people that argue that steroids should be legalized and allowed in professional sports. Other people argue that steroids should not be allowed. Today I am going to state my opinion and justify my reason. Steroids should not be allowed in professional sports because it can be very dangerous to the athlete’s health, it is a way to gain and un-fair advantage and it can be dangerous in both social and physical aspects.
Eggs came first. Millions of years before mammals, eggs existed, their hard shells unlike her mammalian sister who waddles around, heavily crippled with the burden of her womb. Eggs conferred evolutionary advantage.
Making a decision for the future can be hard, but it can be even harder when people are torn between their passions and meeting other’s expectations. In today’s generation, most students are expected to have their career chosen by the time they are out of High School. They are trained to plan and map out their entire lives. Yet, college students still end up having an undecided major by the time they start their freshman year in college. A huge issue that is present in today’s society is that college students chose their major for the wrong reasons. Parents pressure students to pursue careers in business, medicine, politics, and law; however, unless practiced with passion, those careers are pointless.
This Act would provide protection from any anti-discrimination of LGBT, this includes employment, housing, credit, education, and jury services (Hrc.org). Due to this Act any member of the LGBT community is able to get a job, education, and housing and should not be restricted because of who they love. LGBT will be allowed the same protection as any other free citizen under the law. Congress also launched the Congressional LGBT Equality Caucus. Congress is strongly committed to making sure that all people who consider themselves as gay, Lesbian, or transgendered all around the world are protected (polish.house.gov). Lesbians, Gays, and transgendered are denied their right most American enjoy. So these Laws that are enforced gives them the freedom to do so. On June 26, 2015, the Supreme Court rule to legalize same sex marriage. No State would be allowed to ban the new same sex marriage policy (Cnn.com). This now allowing anybody of the LGBT community to make their relationship greater with the person they
People should not be treated differently because of race. It's not fair for African Americans to be looked as with less power because of the color of their skin. However, because of racism, (being unfair to other people because of their skin color) those who are labeled or caged” as ¨less than” are oppressed due to their lack of opportunities. For example, being an African American in the 60ś meant that Maya Angelou was told to go to a school for only black children. Being separated does not mean being treated the same because white schools had way better education than black schools.
As any romantic will assert, love is by far the most powerful force known to human hearts and minds. This sentiment is espoused throughout history, almost to the point of cliché. Everyone has heard the optimistic statement, “love conquers all,” and The Beatles are certain, however idyllic it may be, that “all you need is love.” Humanity is convinced that love is unique within human emotion, unequalled in its power to both lift the spirit up in throws of ecstasy, and cast it down in utter despair.
When Martin Luther King delivered the famous “I have a Dream “speech his hope was for all men and women of color to have the same civil rights as white people. Although it has been more than fifty years, is this dream a reality? Even though he accomplished for all men to have the same civil rights, do we all have the same right? According to the NY Times fewer than one in three black Americas and not even half of the whites say the United States has made “a lot” of progress to achieving racial equality (Roberts). The situation of the McKinney pool party in June 2015 and a Georgia couple suing a white neighbor along with the local city due to racial slurs in February of 2012, these couple
More homeless people are starting to gather inside the community leaving two options, either use police force to drive them out or work together and build shelters for them. Using police force may sound like the right way to go, but containing all the homeless to a shelter instead of them roaming in the community would allow police to watch and control them more easily. Instead of arresting and using our taxes on paying for a homeless person to go to jail for sleeping on a park bench, it would be more beneficial to build shelters to help cut back on unnecessary arrests. By building shelters, it would constrain them to a specific location, remind the homeless that they are people just like the people in our community, and explain that homelessness should not be treated as a crime by itself.
