Personally, I believe marijuana should be legal for recreational and medical uses under with certain limitations.
Generally, when people hear about the drug marijuana they immediately start to insult it. With that being said, most people question how do you bash a plant that grows naturally? If it is such a bad thing, why does it grow? According to the National Institute on Drug Abuse “Marijuana refers to the dried leaves, flowers, stems, and seeds from the Cannabis sativa or Cannabis indica plant” (NIDA). Cannabis Sativa, or marijuana, has been around for centuries. This flowering plant has been grown in many locations across the world. Marijuana comes from flowering top of the Cannabis Sativa plant which contains the chemical Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC). THC causes mind-altering states which relaxes the user. After the Mexican Revolution the United States stated seeing an increase of Mexicans immigrating into the United States. These new immigrants brought along with their culture and native language. In the Mexican culture marijuana was used as a medicine and a relaxant. The media then began to play on the fears that the public had about the new immigrants by spreading false claims about the “disruptive Mexicans” with their crazy behavior due
The cannabis plant has been the topic of much debate throughout the history of this country. Many people don't know that it was not the effect of cannabis that originally spurred its banning. It was actually originally the work of the cotton industry who put big money behind illegalization for the plant's mind altering effects. The cotton industry was afraid that hemp, a product of the cannabis plant, would soon overpower the strong hold of cotton since it was a more durable textile that required less work, less ground depletion, and could be grown almost anywhere. Since the time when cannabis first became illegal it has been grouped with other narcotics as a counterpart. The truth is cannabis has many benefits to society and other than the effects of smoke inhalation has very few negatives. Those against legalization try to put cannabis in the same light as other more potent drugs like cocaine and heroin. There are many misconceptions about the substance and it is clear it should be looked at separately.
Throughout history people have used marijuana for its dried leaves, flowers, stems, and seeds to relieve pain, stress, and other medical issues from one’s life. Within the recent years it has become one of the most debated issues in the United States. In the 1930s, the U.S. Federal Bureau of Narcotics (now the Bureau of Narcotics and Dangerous Drugs) claimed that marijuana was a “gateway” drug and was a powerful, addicting substance. During the sixties marijuana became a symbol for rebellion against authority so it became very popular by college students and “hippies”. So in 1982, Drug Enforcement Administration increased pressure on drug farms and houses which decreased the use of marijuana. In the past twenty years marijuana has become a

Cannabis is a natural plant that has been made illegal by the United States, and has been a controversial topic ever since the 1920’s. Marijuana is a substance that has been used hundreds of years ago as an herbal medicine and also can be used for textile products from hemp, which is from the Cannabis Sativa plant. Because of marijuana being categorized as a schedule one substance, it has no medical value and cannot be researched in the United States. Marijuana is said to be a gateway drug and is very unhealthy for adolescents with premature brains. The marijuana prohibition should finally come to a close because there are many benefits from cannabis and it is less harmful than both alcohol and tobacco.
In order to eradicate the drug problem, a public debate is going on to find some solutions to this drug dilemma. Before deciding whether marijuana should be legal or illegal, one needs to know some basic facts. Lester Grinspoon, M.D. and James B. Bakalar note "most botanists agree that there are three species of marijuana; Cannabis sativa, the most widespread of the three, is tall, gangly, and loosely branched, growing as high as twenty feet; Cannabis indica is shorter, about three or four feet in height, pyramidal in shape and densely bran...

Marijuana continues to be one of the most used illegal drugs in the United States. Marijuana has been used for many years and at one time was legal to consume. Throughout the years, marijuana has been used for treatment of different medical conditions and has been used recreationally by people of all ages. While the use of medicinal marijuana has proven to be effective in treating medically ill patients, society continues to question its recreational use and the long term effects it will have on its users. However, a number of people question why it is considered illegal being it is a naturally growing
Marijuana has been widely used around the world and people still argue whether it should be legalized or not. The use of marijuana has been one of the most addicting drugs in order to get a decent high. Whether it is bad or not people think it is better than alcohol, yet people think it is a gate way to other drug use.
There has always been controversy over the subject of legalizing marijuana. As the drug has evolved into something to help treat major illnesses such as schizophrenia, AIDS, and cancer, it continues to bring skepticism on why it needs to be legalized. No matter where the thought of legalizing the drug occurs, a large debate over legalization arises due to the fact that families do not want any sort of involvement with their areas selling the “devil’s herb”. The main area of concern for families, is the challenges they have on keeping the drug out of kids hands as well as keeping it from crossing state line. Though these concerns are difficult to control, it is not just marijuana which creates these problems for families. Alcohol, tobacco, Adderall, etc. are just as easy of kids to get their hands on, if not easier.
Marijuana is an olive-drab combination of the preserved herbs of Cannabis sativa. More and more states are legalizing marijuana for recreational and medicinal purposes. My personal beliefs is that marijuana should be available in all states for medicinal purposes only. My father could have used marijuana for an anti-nausea/ appetite stimulant while suffering from Renal Cell Carcinoma cancer many years ago.He had chemotherapy and radiation that lasted until his death and suffered with nausea and many other symptoms. Medicinal marijuana, or medicinal cannabis, is cannabinoids that are recommended by medical practitioners for their patients. Few to little proof displays marijuana can decrease revulsion and vomiting at the same time during chemotherapy, boost appetite in human beings with HIV/AIDS, decrease convulsive attacks, decrease constant physical suffering and muscle contractions. The cannabis plant has a history of medicinal use dating back thousands of years across many cultures. Medicinal cannabis can be prescribed to patients in an assortment of ways: dermal patches,Capsules, lozenges, tinctures, oral or dermal sprays, or cannabis edibles. I always believed that marijuana was a gateway drug, and never considered the medicinal properties. I believe now that the United States should legalize Marijuana all over the country for medicinal usage that has been given to a patient by a doctor in the form that does not have the THC high in marijuana, but has the capabilities of still helping chronic illnesses.
