Just Keep Swimming Swim team is all about doing your best and achieving your teams goals while also reaching your own goals. Being a captain isn’t about being the best in the pool its about setting the example and supporting your teammates. The captain is responsible for doing their best to do everything they can for the team and pushing everyone to achieve their goals. Their job is to be there for any teammate that is struggling physically or mentally. I want my teammates to feel supported and if they ever need help that I am there to help them though whatever comes up. As a captain I may not be the strongest swimmer out in the pool but I always try my hardest and do my best in every race. As much as I may not like an event I will still do it, there is no question about it, it will be done to the best of my ability. Holding myself to do things I don’t want to do will encourage other swimmers, my teammates, to step outside of their comfort zones and try a new event, maybe step into one where we need an extra person. I know I would step into an event I’m not comfortable in to help the team. If a new swimmer sees a captain doing an event they aren’t the best at but are
Every swimmer on the team needs to know that they will be supported when they aren’t in the pool at practice or at a meet. As I mentioned before I know that I am not the best, and I will never be the best. My goal is always to do my best and if a new swimmer gets a slower time than what they expected they need to know that they did their best and there is always room for improvement. They need to know that someone will be there to congratulate them when they have a good race and someone will be there when they are having an off day and have a bad race, thats what I feel a captain is meant to do for their
