Every year, millions of illegal immigrants escape from their homeland to the United States to live an American Dream. Many believe that the U.S is the “land of freedom and opportunity” that can promise you a better quality life for yourself and family members. Its crucial to understand how difficult, one must struggle in order to live in America. The US current policy allows for “..merely 620,000 immigrants to gain citizenship per year” ( Goldsborough 2012) How can this be the land of opportunity if we're the land of no opportunity for citizenship? There are many positive and negative issues that occur with the immigration reform. One can argue that passing the Comprehensive immigration reform can serve our people and country huge success. Barack Obama reads a speech in Las Vegas that has a four part plan for “common sense” comprehensive immigration reform proposal states strength borders, seek companies that hire undocumented workers Third, require undocumented workers to pay their taxes and a penalty, move to the back of the line, learn English, and pass background checks. Lastly, streamline the legal immigration system for families, workers, and employer” (Reuters 2013) An example of a bill provision would be of immigrants who want to change their status from illegal to legal would have to demonstrate an understanding of English. Obama is essentially letting the public know that if they get their comprehensive plan through congress will sign it, but if Congress refuses to act he will send his own bill and expect a vote on it. It’s evident that undocumented workers will boost the economy on several accounts. For example, undocumented workers do not invest in any big tickets like houses and property, as they fu...

... here illegally can get in without all the work. The left wants more people here dependent on the government so they can increase their voter base. If you went through the process, welcome to the USA and I wish you a happy life here. If you came here illegally, go back to your home country and go through the process to come here legally, stop hoping the president will let you “cut the line”.
Current update:
Overall, its quite obvious now that democrats are for immigration where republicans are against it. “Republicans do not pass immigration reform this year, Democrats will not allow Republicans to pass their conservative version of immigration reform in 2015 or 2016, because they will have no incentive to allow Republicans to do anything that will allow the Republicans to make inroads with immigrant voting blocks [sic] heading into the presidential elections”
The United States has been known as the “Melting Pot ”and “The Land of Opportunity” for decades, but the title is slowly diminishing as scrutiny has been bombarding immigrants for wanting a better life. As questions arise of what is needed to protect the borders from possible terrorist other factors come into play such as what immigrants have to contribute to the country. Immigration is actually vital to our country since it provides the government more income, it brings the country a positive image, and DACA helps the community come together.
PBS Frontline’s documentary, Immigration Battle, produced and directed by Shari Robertson and Michael Camerini (2015), portrays the life and death of the immigration reform bill. The film initially follows Rep. Gutiérrez who advocates the immigration reform bill that would give millions of undocumented immigrants an opportunity to become U.S. citizens. It was believed that the re-election of the president, Barrack Obama, was due to the high voters of Latinos and immigrants. By the increase in the Latino and immigrant electoral voters both
Ahead of the decision by current president Donald J. Trump to phase out the DREAM Acts’ Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program, (DACA), dreamers are pursuing amnesty options the ensure their stay within the United States. The Deferred Actions for Childhood Arrivals program, (DACA), grants two-year deferments to immigrant minors and young adults facing deportation because of illegal immigration status. In a response to the current president’s decision to phase out of the DACA program, former president Barack Obama included that, “dreamers are Americans in their hearts, in their minds, in every single way but one: on paper” (Obama, ). Dreamers have become model citizens, quite parallel to Americans. Dreamers attend school, go off to college, obtain degrees, and become employees, even owners of businesses, and corporations. Dreamers make contributions to the economy by working, culturally adjusting and honoring the laws put forth by the United States of America. Although dreamers do not live in the country legally, dreamers feel a part of its fabric. And with the uncertainty surrounding the ending of the DACA, dreamers are pursuing the amnesty option to
For many Mexican immigrants, crossing the border into the land of freedom and the American dream is no easy task. Some immigrants come over illegally by means of hiding in cars to cross borders, using visitor visas to stay longer, marrying to become citizens, and having babies as ‘anchors’ to grant automatic citizenship. Other immigrants gain green cards and work visas and work their way into becoming US citizens legally and subsequently gaining citizenship through paperwork for their families back home. After escaping harsh living and working conditions in Mexico, immigrants come to America prepared to gain education, opportunity, and work. This American dream unfortunately does not come to pass for most.
The United States of America, being a country founded by immigrants, is known all over the world as the land of great opportunities. People from all walks of life travelled across the globe, taking a chance to find a better life for them and their family. Over the years, the population of immigrants has grown immensely, resulting in the currently controversial issue of illegal immigration. Illegal immigrants are the people who have overstayed the time granted on their US, visa or those who have broken the federal law by crossing the border illegally. Matt O’Brien stated in his article “The government thinks that 10.8 million illegal immigrants lived in the country in January 2009, down from a peak of nearly 12 million in 2007.”(Para, 2) While some argue that illegal immigrants burden the United States of America and its economy, others believe that they have become essential and are an important part of the US, economy.
The battle between the Democrats and the Republicans is a battle that has gone on ever since the 1900s. The only way that a political party can take over the house is if they are able to address the issues that relevant to the people. Now that elections are around the corner, many candidates are bringing up issues that have been affecting America for a while and how they are going to change it for the better. The issue of immigration has been brought up by both the Democrats and the Republicans, but both don’t seem to come to an agreement on the issue. The Republicans believe that illegal immigrants should not be given the same benefits as a legal citizen, but America should welcome those that come in legally. On the other hand, Democrats believe
Immigration has always been a hot topic in America. There are many pros and cons, which makes it a delicate issue when it comes to debates. In an attempt to reform immigration, President Obama has issued an executive order that will overhaul the nation’s immigration system as we know it. The president’s changes will affect nearly 11 million undocumented immigrants who are currently residing in America. Focusing on 4 main changes, Obamas’ plan focuses on many aspects from enhancing border security to developing new processes in which workers can enter the country.
Immigration is the greatest part of American history. In the beginning, Immigrants brought a vast variety of cultures and beliefs and turned America in to the beauty it is today. Immigrants are still doing this. However, the issue with immigration can be it 's illegal status. Many undocumented immigrants are entering this country causing questions among the American citizens. Rather than asking if this is right or wrong, a solution can be found. Illegal immigrants come here for a purpose and can be helped with this purpose. Most come fleeing persecution, although some come here for more demented reasons. Those, illegal immigrants will be done away with. However, Those immigrants who come here for pure reasons need to be taken Care of in proper
A topic crucial to the world today is illegal immigration. Illegal immigration is when people live in a country without permission from the government, nor have any legal documentation. As more and more illegal immigrants enter the United States, it either upsets some people, or others feel like they should just grant them ability to pursue life, liberty, and happiness because that is what the Constitution says. Some people feel that illegal immigrants should be protected by the same rights and laws as American citizens. On the other hand, many people believe that this is a horrible mistake. They feel that the rights of citizenship should be earned and not extended to people who haven broken the law just by being in the United States.
The former President Barack Obama delivered a speech on June 15, 2012 from Rose Garden, White House to address a new policy called DREAM Act. His intended audience is Republicans, Congress, and all fellow Americans. This speech was conveyed before his re-election campaign. He wanted to mend the immigration policy, to make it more fair and efficient for certain young people called Dreamers. Obama wants the Congress to pass this act because he believes that these young kids have potential to better the United States in many aspects. He believes that it is the right thing to do because these young individuals were brought in to this country by their parents at very young age and that was not their choice. He emphasizes that they have been raised
Population what makes a country special, all the cultures and the history combines a society within the borders of a country. The United States has the most unique and diverse population in the world. But unfortunately, the topic of immigration creates tension throughout the US. Today, immigration is one of the most popular topic of debate especially in politics. For many years the United States has been trying to come with a solution for this particular issue, but unfortunately, they haven’t found a permanent solution to fix the problem. Immigration helps a country to improve its potential by diversifying its power. Therefore, it should be encouraged by the government by providing programs that will benefit the immigrants.
There are more than 12 million immigrants in the United States, to try to deport all of them is an idea that many see as impractical and impossible (Pawlick, Finley). Seeing as immigration is not a problem that can be solved by deportation, allowing these immigrants to obtain a citizenship is the best way to insure their future as well as native-born citizens. Immigration has always been a very controversial topic, however it is a responsibility as educated Americans to see that these “illegal aliens” serve the country more when granted citizenship. Many of these hard working immigrants, both legal and illegal, pay taxes, and contribute to programs such as social security ( Immigration Policy). Yet, there are many immigrants who cannot live their lives freely due to fear of being caught. However by granting these immigrants amnesty, it is encouraging thousands of immigrants who live above the law to come out of the shadows and pay their contribution to society as well as receiving the
Illegal immigrants are makers, not takers. Many American citizens see these approximate 11 million illegal immigrants in a negative view and don’t want them living in their communities. However, many of these American citizens don’t know why illegal immigrants come here and what good they actually do to this country. Illegal immigration should be allowed because their quality of life is improved, they help the economy, and they bring job growth.
With the recent Paris attacks and rumors of foreboding ISIS attacks, the topic of immigration comes up quite often in conversations. Topics such as how the immigrants should be dealt with, what exactly are the benefits and/or detriments of immigration, Donald Trump’s immigration plan, et cetera are usually discussed. With immigration gradually becoming a trending issue, various people have expressed their thoughts through means like social media and news sites. Joining this movement, this will be another text on the topic of immigration. The benefits of immigration will be presented, false information will be proven wrong, and why some people oppose immigration will be explained and discussed. Immigration should be widely accepted rather than
Immigration issues such as the executive order stating illegals can stay here if they have been here five years or more by having a work permit is not stopping the flow or the problem. The United States current security regarding the border is not strong enough and needs to be fixed because illegal immigrants are still getting through. Establishing a new guest worker program would solve the problem of filling jobs americans do not want to work. The U.S. needs to reform immigration in order to make america great again. This is important because its the peoples’ country they should care about how the government handles immigration the power is in the hands of the
