The immigration laws that President Trump has imposed on illegal immigrants may affect the U.S. economy in the long run. The U.S. economy has had its ups and downs throughout the years, but has always managed to stay on top. However, this time the economy may fall into another recession like the one in 2008, and one of its factors will be President Trump’s vendetta against Mexican immigrants. Getting rid of immigrants will hurt the economy because it will halt money exchange between Mexico and the U.S., leave many unwanted jobs vacant thereupon decreasing revenue, and create a hostile environment between both neighboring countries.
For the most part, the U.S. has been known as the land of freedom and opportunities where many can achieve their dreams. Yet, this is not necessarily true for everyone who comes to America. For example, many illegal Mexican immigrants migrate to the states in search of a better life for them and their family back home. Therefore, they take unwanted jobs such as crop

pickers, janitors, maids, bus drivers and gardeners. In addition, many Americans do not like laborious jobs that will strain their backs or make them work for extensive long hours. For this reason, most illegal immigrants are the ones taking those low-earning jobs and helping increase America’s GDP. Solow remarks, “the labor market polarized between the highly educated and skilled at the top and the mass of poorly educated and unskilled at the bottom,”(Solow 2). This demonstrates that the economy keeps increasing because of illegal immigrants that are at the bottom, giving the elite spare time to keep innovating technology and making investments around the world. Immigrants do not have an option of being picky over what job they want to get because for the most part they do not meet the qualifications. In addition, immigrants earn low wages and still manage to send remittances to their relatives back in Mexico. Patrick McDonnell elaborates, “Its citizens in the U.S. sent back nearly $25 billion last year, its second-largest source of foreign income, after manufactured goods and ahead of oil,” (nytimes.com) Remittances are monies sent by both legal and illegal immigrants back to their home country. Sending money through banks facilitates these transfers, making investments in the home country, or by returning to the home country while retaining bank accounts and other assets in the United States. Remittances play a big part in the Mexican economy because it fuels consumer spending, from building houses to paying for school tuition. However, if the U.S. stops its ties with Mexico it is possible that another recession will emerge, not as dramatic as the 2008 financial crisis, but will still have a significant effect. Moreover, both the U.S.
and Mexico are relatively close to each other in comparison to other countries. As a result, President Trump should not be creating any more conflict with Mexico. However, President Trump wants to cut off most ties with Mexico, but still have control over it. Boaz Atzili notes, “State weakness promotes the possibility of international conflict by creating opportunities for neighbors to intervene to exploit the weak states economically or politically,” (Atzili 8). By sending back all illegal immigrants to Mexico, President Trump will be able to weaken and control the country as a puppet under his command. This will eventually backfire because this will create a security dilemma with other countries, and the U.S. will have the image of a bad neighbor. As a result, other countries will fear U.S. involvement and will cut their business ties, while others will use it to their advantaged to overstep on other countries and implement their
currency. In order to prevent a political and economic crisis with Mexico, President Trump should look at other alternatives if he wants to repair the U.S.-Mexico relations. Nevertheless, the U.S. has been dependent on illegal immigrants throughout its history. Without immigrants, wealthy Americans would not be able to enjoy their lavish lifestyles because they would have to be working more hours to keep the economy running. Getting rid of immigrants will not make the economy better or give Americans more job opportunities; instead it would create a bigger problem. On the other hand, Mexico is dependent on the U.S. to build structures and keep their economy running. Thereupon, countries like China will use an opportunity like this to overpower the U.S. and become the number one economy in the world by possibly taking Mexico under its wing and going against the U.S. Trump should take into consideration the phrase, “keep your friends close but enemies closer”. He should not want to get rid of immigrants; instead he can increase the interest that they all ready provide to the nation much more.
Immigration is the act of moving and living in another country. Illegal immigration has been a controversial issue for so many years in the United States. Immigrants leave their hometown to travel to the United states to work and to start a new life in this country. America is a nation of immigration. Many immigrants comes in to America every year, but some of those people are undocumented immigrants. The government is taking an action to solve the immigration system. In this paper, there are various resources how people think what are the possible the impact if the undocumented immigrants become legal. Legalizing the undocumented immigrants means they will have better job, wages and which leads to increase in taxes, jobs in the United states
For many Mexican immigrants, crossing the border into the land of freedom and the American dream is no easy task. Some immigrants come over illegally by means of hiding in cars to cross borders, using visitor visas to stay longer, marrying to become citizens, and having babies as ‘anchors’ to grant automatic citizenship. Other immigrants gain green cards and work visas and work their way into becoming US citizens legally and subsequently gaining citizenship through paperwork for their families back home. After escaping harsh living and working conditions in Mexico, immigrants come to America prepared to gain education, opportunity, and work. This American dream unfortunately does not come to pass for most.
Illegal immigration has many diverse effects on the United States economy. Some people argue that the negative outweigh the positive, but there is no doubt that immigrants do carry a critical role.
America is often known as the land of opportunity, a place where you can be free. Many Immigrants came to America so that they could have a greater possibility at succeeding in life. Immigrants took a leap of faith when coming to America, for some it worked out well but for others they had a difficult time here. Despite the struggles that the immigrants encountered such as; standing out from others, being separated from their families, and breaking their culture, the immigrants are still grateful to be in America because they were in better conditions than they were in their home land. When viewing interviews or looking at an immigrant’s perspective you get many responses to being in America, some major things that stood out were the amount of freedom the immigrant had, and the age of the immigrant. These two things had a huge impact on the opinion of America from an Immigrants point of view.
Nowadays, United States is the country that has variety of cultures, races, etc. mixing together by having immigrants in their countries. However, they need to control these group of people also. More people out of country are trying to stay in the U.S. However, this is not an easy process to deal with. There is an immigrant policy that they have to go through. In the past, United States is wide open for people to settle down on this land. There is no process of immigrants. However, in the middle of 1840 to 1880, immigrants started to come in the U.S. such as Irish and Chinese because of demanding of unskilled and cheap labors. In the 1920, automation replaced unskilled labors as a result immigrant’s policy is limited quotas for immigrants
The lack of enforcement of immigration policies will cause the greatest impact on America’s economy. One of the most controversial topics is how immigrants affect jobs and wages. Many argue that immigrants help the economy by working for the people that will not, but in reality they are taking Americans jobs and legal immigrants that have earned their rights. The main issue is wages: illegal immigrants are desperate for jobs and will do anything. Businessmen will take advantage of this and pay them significantly lower wages. Cheap labor negatively affects other workers. Studies show that immigrants push down wages and may cause other workers to leave a certain industry.
America, “The Land of the Free”, “The Home of the Brave”, “The Melting Pot”, “The Land of Milk and Honey”, “The Land Across the Pond”, “The Western World”, “Uncle Sam”, and most importantly “The Land of Opportunity”. America is still “The Land of Opportunity” because there is much more freedom in America than most other countries. There are no caste systems to limit what someone who is in America can do. Additionally an American’s destiny is created by his/her own choices, not the choices of his/her family or peers. America is a country founded by immigrants for immigrants, and although the Land of Opportunity has suffered an economic crisis in the last decade, it still maintains its reputation for being the greatest country in the world. The United States is still “The Land of Opportunity” because there are no caste systems, one’s destiny is made by his/her choices, and American freedoms are a part of everyday life.
Illegal immigration has become a controversial topic in politics within the US. Some believe that undocumented immigrants are vital to the U.S. economy because they take the jobs Americans do not want. Others however, have the opinion that undocumented immigrants should be punished for doing things illegally, arguing that undocumented immigrants are taking the jobs of the American people and taking abusing it by not paying taxes. Although there are speculations that support the claim that immigrants should be punished, there are several counterarguments that state why they should be allowed to stay. Undocumented immigrants are an important factor to the development of the United States of America, immigrants have supplied a widespread example
Immigration is the greatest part of American history. In the beginning, Immigrants brought a vast variety of cultures and beliefs and turned America in to the beauty it is today. Immigrants are still doing this. However, the issue with immigration can be it 's illegal status. Many undocumented immigrants are entering this country causing questions among the American citizens. Rather than asking if this is right or wrong, a solution can be found. Illegal immigrants come here for a purpose and can be helped with this purpose. Most come fleeing persecution, although some come here for more demented reasons. Those, illegal immigrants will be done away with. However, Those immigrants who come here for pure reasons need to be taken Care of in proper
Population what makes a country special, all the cultures and the history combines a society within the borders of a country. The United States has the most unique and diverse population in the world. But unfortunately, the topic of immigration creates tension throughout the US. Today, immigration is one of the most popular topic of debate especially in politics. For many years the United States has been trying to come with a solution for this particular issue, but unfortunately, they haven’t found a permanent solution to fix the problem. Immigration helps a country to improve its potential by diversifying its power. Therefore, it should be encouraged by the government by providing programs that will benefit the immigrants.
The entire issue about immigration is a complete mess. I do understand that people our coming into the country “illegally”, but the real issue here is the security and not the “threat” these immigrants bring to us. Globalization is what’s challenging America in both migration and terrorism because it’s honestly making it much easier to happen. In my understanding, Immigration Reform is just a term used to state that there are new and/or better changes made to the immigration issue by itself. As I read the articles I realized that there is more to the issue than I thought. Some people want border security to be increased to minimize the opportunity to have immigrants come into our country and others want to help them because in reality, that’s
In the upcoming presidential election, one of the most popular topics is that of illegal immigration. Leading Republican candidate Donald J. Trump has run a campaign heavily anti-illegal immigration. He proposes reform in American immigration, specifically from Mexico. Many politicians and political activists argue that undocumented immigrants take job-positions from American workers and cost federal, state, and local governments considerably large amounts of money per year in law enforcement, education, and healthcare services. U.S. citizens are passionate to restore their economy, and many have adopted a very xenophobic attitude towards immigration amidst the new presidential debates. In order to restore our economy, many people believe that
Immigration is one of the most common disputes in the United States, let’s define what immigration stands for. Immigration is the act of coming to a foreign country to live, the act of leaving one 's country to settle in another is called emigration. Immigrants who leave their country because of persecution, war, or disasters such as famines or epidemics are known as refugees or displaced persons.
With the recent Paris attacks and rumors of foreboding ISIS attacks, the topic of immigration comes up quite often in conversations. Topics such as how the immigrants should be dealt with, what exactly are the benefits and/or detriments of immigration, Donald Trump’s immigration plan, et cetera are usually discussed. With immigration gradually becoming a trending issue, various people have expressed their thoughts through means like social media and news sites. Joining this movement, this will be another text on the topic of immigration. The benefits of immigration will be presented, false information will be proven wrong, and why some people oppose immigration will be explained and discussed. Immigration should be widely accepted rather than
Although crime and terrorism has increased because of the absence of carrying out immigration policy, illegal immigration has caused the most effect on the economy. Most people think that illegal immigrants make the country more efficient and do jobs that U.S. citizens do not want to do. Although the truth is that these illegal immigrants are taking legal citizens jobs. As
