Thousands of homeless animals are looking for forever homes in America. Volunteering is a great way to give to your community and socialize the animals at the shelters. Working with dogs and cats that have not had good starts in their lives helps them trust again. It helps animals get over the trauma they have had before they went to the shelter. Socializing makes the animal more adoptable and they are given a chance to get forever homes. Volunteer at your local humane society 's and help out the animals like I have worked with in shelters. Many dirty dogs come into the shelters, washing them helps them get homes quicker. They also need baths to stay healthy. Many need their toenails trimmed, or their ears cleaned. If they do not have routine nail trimmings the quick will become very large and it is hard to trim nails. They will start to curl and cut the paw pads causing discomfort and sometimes results in the nail getting imbedded in the pads. Also, baths help check for fleas and ticks or any hot spots. Cleaning them will help with mats, and tangles. If, the mat gets too close to the skin it causes irritation. Brushing teeth is also a procedure they need when grooming. Many small dogs have teeth that are too close together and collect tartar. Volunteering at shelters can have positive effects for both the animals and the volunteers. It helps the animals relax and socialize while you are gaining experience. You help out your community and it looks great on resumes! Volunteering can help make the dogs more adoptable and helps them realize you are not going to hurt them. They will begin to trust and love again. While you volunteer you might find your best friend! Lend a helping hand, volunteer and adopt from your local
When I was little my teachers would ask me “Cora, What do you want to be when you grow up”? In reality, I couldn’t make up my mind on what I wanted to be ‘when I grew up’. When I was around seven, I went from wanting to be a Veterinarian to being an Astronaut, then back to a Veterinarian again. Around age 10, I wanted to be a dentist, even though I hate mouths. Then I wanted to be a Veterinarian again. Junior Year of high school came and when we started to research colleges and careers I heard that Premed programs were so hard to get into, and I wasn’t fooling anyone with my grades. I did some research on Veterinarians and I discovered that the Veterinarians don’t really handle the animals like I thought they did. Then I learned about Veterinary Technicians, they do so much with the animals. I
I can be a hero in my community volunteering at animal shelters. Volunteering at animal shelters not only helps the animals, it makes those employed there jobs easier. Working at animal shelters allows the animal shelter to have a higher capacity, thus keeping animals off the streets. This makes neighborhoods prettier and cleaner and improves the lives of hundreds of animals.
Would you like to try a dog limb with the salad? These are the exact word that I heard from the Korean air hostess when I was first traveling to the USA. I still remember she passed me a wrong serving plate. This incident really affects me a lot because I had never seen meat before in my life. It makes me think about how the meat industry is widely spread and how it is regulated by the governmental agencies. Factory farming is a system of rearing livestock using intensive methods by which poultry, pigs, or cattle are confined indoors under strictly controlled conditions. Today, factory farming dominates the U.S food production to fulfill the excessive demand of the peoples. Most of the factory farms are run by the giant corporations and their
Animal shelters need people that are great with pets or people that just like working for animals on their free time. Help and volunteer at a animal shelter it can make a pet feel good and you are also helping the community- ("Ten Ways to Help"). In today’s society people need to get active and work with something. It doesn’t have to be an animal shelter but as long as you are helping the community out one way or another. If you adopt a pet form a local animal shelter go back and say thank you and show pics of your pet and tell how they are doing and let them know they you are real supportive at what they do for their
You wake up in the hospital, look around, and find a doctor hovering nearby declaring that you have just suffered through a heart attack; affirming that if not for your dog, you would have died. You remember back to earlier that day: sitting on the couch, feeling a little off, hearing your dog barking, sensing him nudging you, going to the phone to call the ambulance, and having your dog by your side until you were safe inside the aluminum walls of the emergency vehicle. Although it sounds abnormal that a dog would be the one to save someone’s life, situations similar to the one above are not uncommon. Dogs and other household pets have been shown to be able to detect medical emergencies, including heart attacks and seizures, in their owners.
Do you know that if you buy a pet from a pet store, there will be some animals die in the shelters? Do you also know that every year there are thousands of sheltered animals are euthanized—mercy killing— because there is no space for them? Many people buy pets rather than adopt from shelters because they think they are healthy, purebred and well-behaved. But actually the sheltered animals may be healthier, happier and much cheaper. In the recent years, more and more people decide to adopt animals since there are numerous advantages such as changing a homeless animal’s whole life, reducing illegal trade and puppy farms and benefiting from long- term advice and support.
According to the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, 7.6 million companion pets enter animal shelters across the United States each year, nearly evenly disrupted between dogs and cats . These animals are abandoned for reasons including families no longer being able to care for them (sickness/death of an owner), to families not wanting them (the novelty wearing of the animal wearing off), to the animals being born into puppy mills to finally animals that are loved being lost from their owners. These animals do not understand what is happening to them and rely on the kindness of humans to provide for them in shelters until their forever home can be found.
Responsibilities for dogs come in all different forms, but these are just a couple of ways that I have to specifically take care of my dog. Dogs make great companions, can be assistance dogs and help people with disabilities, and even protect a household. Hearing dogs can be the ears for a person that is hard of hearing, seeing dogs can be the eyes for someone who is legally blind, and service dogs can be an alert system for someone with epilepsy. Although, these dogs are put through a lot of special training for a specific need. More often than not, an assistance dog is adopted but also donated to someone who is handicapped.
Volunteering is an important contributor to our society. It is also a great opportunity to learn different skills, especially young people, and they will become a part of who you are. Your future employers will thank you for it, as will any college or university that you decide to apply too. It is also a perfect way for everyone to meet different people and experience different things. Volunteering not only actively will help people; it also helps the environment. Most of all, it allows you to become a better person for what you have
Volunteering enables a person to develop new skills that he or she would otherwise not have been able to develop. Unlike most other organizations, a charitable organization is happy to give positions to passionate, though inexperienced, individuals who desire to help others and benefit the community. Therefore, an individual with little experience in a field of work can gain meaningful skills that he or she can use in the future. For example, while I volunteered at the hospital this summer, I learned about the daily work lives and professional duties of doctors and nurses. Had I not volunteered, I would not have learned about these things. I was always interested in the medical field, but volunteering at the hospital let me explore my interests and en...

Instead of learning about volunteering from an indoor setting, I was able to first-hand experience volunteerism. I truly enjoyed being able to help my community while also earning credits by doing so. It was a win-win! If I had the opportunity, I would definitely take a class similar to this one. I will be transferring to the University of Kentucky and I am hoping that they will have some clubs/organizations that specialize in volunteering so that I can continue to help with the community. You will encounter some rough patches while volunteering, but that should never discourage you from continuing on. I know that at first while volunteering at MCHS, it was pretty strenuous. I hadn’t worked with any other animals other than my own and I had never volunteered at an animal shelter before, but everything ended up working out. I learned so much more about working with animals, gained people skills while working with other volunteers/adopters, and became more aware of my community’s needs. I will continue to volunteer and encourage others to do the
Volunteering benefits a person by building connections with peers, improving family life, expanding career skills, overcoming self doubt, having lasting life impressions, and creating new opportunities. Just a small act can make a huge difference in someone’s life. The future is dependent on the individual person and the people they surround themselves with. Just a few hours will change both the volunteer’s life and the one that is in need.
Volunteering is one of the most patriotic acts a person could do. The world today has put volunteering and helping others on standby while they go chase other types of happiness. After a long day of volunteering one’s feet will probably hurt , one will be sleepy , and most of all hungry. Every day after volunteering I would go home and take a nice warm shower and reflect on my experiences that day. That time in the shower helped me focus on the goals I wanted to set the next time I would volunteer. The most satisfying aspect of volunteering his helping other people because it is the right thing to do. People don’t realize how important helping others is until they need help themselves. The Salvation Army is a superb place where one can learn many lessons about life that could affect someone’s life for
One way that volunteering benefits the community is by showing God's love. Some organizations such as Samaritans Purse show God's love through meeting the needs of people that have been through war, poverty, natural disasters, disease, and famine. As they help the needy, they also share God's word with the victims, and by helping, they are showing how God is working in us to help them “What We Do”. Another way that spreads God's love is disaster relief that some churches put together and allows people to share why they are helping. The Churches of Christ Relief Effort is an organization that will immediately respond to any major disaster in the USA “International Crisis Response”. They will then gather truckloads of food, personal hygiene, infant care, water, cleaning supplies, and other basic needs. While they provide these supplies they also share God's word with those affected by the disaster. When people see what we are doing, they will see how God is working in us and will hopefully want to know more about God and how he works through us. Along with showing God's love, volunteering also helps those in need, builds community and meet new people, getting jobs done faster and more efficient, and saves a ton of
