The gun control controversy has been going on for many years now in the United States. Gun Control is an action that would make it harder for people to obtain a gun. President Obama read a speech on gun control, which was given and published on January 16, 2013 at the White House in Washington DC. He delivered the speech because of the shootings in Aurora, Colorado and Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut. Twelve adults were killed in Colorado and 20 children and six adults were killed in Sandy Hook Elementary School. President Obama and Vice President Joe Biden had to act quickly as the situation with the shootings was out of control. Obama stated “ Just last Thursday, As TV networks were covering one of Joe’s meetings on this topic, news broke of another school shooting, this one in California.” A lot of innocent children are dying and Obama, being the president of the United States, had to act quickly and efficiently. Obama used the children’s messages as they are the future of the country and because every child deserves to live safely in every country. Obama said, “ More than 900 of our fellow Americans have reportedly died at the end of a gun --- 900 in the past month.” This is a scary number. Using these kinds of statements makes his argument stronger and also makes it seem more logical if they make it harder for people to get guns. Obama said, “ Licensed gun dealers to run background checks, and over the last 14 years that’s kept 1.5 million of the wrong people from getting their hands on a gun.” He showed that we are making progress. This would make people feel more confident that this method would work.
