Billy Bob is a law-abiding citizen, and Greg is a criminal. The United States of America decided guns were too dangerous, so the government took them away. Billy Bob works at a Winn Dixie, and his day was about to be the worst of his life. Greg comes in with a gun he bought off the black market, and he holds everyone hostage and kills most of them. Before the United States took all the guns away, Billy Bob had a concealed carry permit which allowed him to carry his gun to work with him every day. That day would have turned out differently if the United States had not taken guns away from law abiding citizens. Tightening gun control laws will not help control mass shootings. It would just increase them because only criminals will have guns, …show more content…
“The united states has the highest rate of firearms death” (Stronger gun control will save lives). Yeah, America might have that, but think of it this way, if a law-abiding citizen who had a legal weapon and a pistol permit then that number would go way down. Other people say if guns really kept us safe the united states would be the safest nation. Yes, I do believe that, but we have too many crazy people who don 't care about others. That 's what needs to be changed who gets determined to be fit to own a gun, but that 's not easily done. It 's not the guns fault all the people died from shootings, it is the fault of the person holding it. Stronger gun control sounds good but, if it only increases gun violence then do not enforce it. Gun control works the way we have it now, so let 's leave it alone before America messes up. Gun control sounds good on paper, but in real life, it is not that great. We will only increase shootings and when they increase, so does the death rate because of the stronger gun control laws. Gun control is a hot topic in the United States now. We need some gun control, but the criminals will always find a way to get around it. Also, just like Billy Bob, he could have saved some lives but, he had to hand is gun over to the government. Something Greg did not
Gun control is a very delicate issue with many different sides and viewpoints. On one side you have those that feel gun control is a necessary item for safety. Others feel it is unjust to take away a person's right to have firearms. Those people also feel that gun control won't help stop crime either. Anyway you look at it, guns have become one of the main causes of death in the United States. Firearms are first among young black men. This makes gun control an issue that must be taken care of. Gun control will not help, for it is the people that should be punished not everyone else.
The second amendment grants all Americans the right to bear arms. The ability to hold a firearm at any time as long as the firearm is registered. In the United states, all it takes to hold a firearm is a background check and a safety class. In a short reading from the “American Now” book a short article By Christina Tenuta called Responsible gun ownership saves lives she asks “do Americans really need guns?”, but are the guns really the problem? Although the second amendment requires some decent documents , the qualifications to obtain a firearm needs to be revised to a mental check, a family history check , and also to make it a priority for reinforcement to check on the registered firearm every six to twelve months.
Gun violence in the United States is higher than ever, and criminals with guns will “…kill as many as 1000 people each day” (Alpers&Wilson). Taking this into perspective, it is only right to fight fire with fire or, in this case, use a gun to protect yourself and those around you. Gun control does not only decrease the ability for protection, it also decreases our rights as U.S citizens. The constitution clearly states that we are given the right to bear arms, meaning we may carry fire arms. Even if we have stricter laws for guns, it will not stop killers from shooting innocent people. These men and women causing damage to the lives of numerous individuals do not care if there is a law banning guns, because all they truly want to do is hurt others. The pain citizens endure every day from losing a family member, friend, or even just a colleague is repulsive. These permanent deaths continue to make people fearful and it causes damage in their lives; unless something is done. Most people agree that action needs to be taken to stop this inhumane cruelty, but the question is; what can be done? Americans need protection, rights, and power to break this inexcusable gun violence circling America. Gun restrictions for trustworthy and reliable gun owners have not been proven to weaken gun violence in the United States; therefore, gun control should be limited because it is only hurting America, not helping it.
In The United States of America there are lots of problems that are plaguing our nation. Gun Control is a problem that there is lots of controversy over. This is a problem that had a fire reignited under it when on December 14, 2012 a school in Connecticut was attacked. Many legislative bills have been introduced since then. (Focus of U.S Gun Control Shifts to States Year after Newtown Shooting) There are lots of issues that we have in our community with Gun Control that we have controversy over: background checks, age, classes, military guns, pistols, shotguns, and rifles. All of these things are apart of the plague in our Nation.
Should the 2nd amendment be revoked or changed? Many Americans would say “No,” stating that guns are dangerous and times have changed. Others might argue that having the right to bear arms keeps people safe and less threated by the outside world. In this debate, both sides of the 2nd amendments constitutional rights will be argued. The upcoming presidential election has been influencing voters to revoke our 2nd amendment rights which could change the democracy on which our country was founded.
In America guns have been a part of the country’s society since it’s birth. Throughout history the citizens of the US have used firearms to protect the nation, protect their families, hunt for food and engage in sporting activities. The issue of Guns and gun control is complex. Weighing the rights and liberties of the individual against the welfare and safety of the public has always been a precarious balancing act. In the United States, gun control is one of these tumultuous issues that has both sides firmly entrenched in their positions. Those parties in favor of gun ownership and the freedom to use and keep arms, rely on the fact that the provision for such rights is enshrined in their constitution. In this climate of growing violence, rife with turmoil and crime, gun advocates feel more than ever that their position is justified. As citizens of the “Land of the Free” possessing a gun is a fundamental right, and may even be a necessity... Anti- gun lobbyists point to the same growing violence and gun related crimes in an effort to call on the government to take action. By enacting more laws and stricter control, these people not in favor of guns feel society would be better safer.
Gun control is a topic that stirs a strong opinion from the general public. Gun control is the effort to regulate or control usage and sales of guns. The right to bear arms is granted to all Americans by the Second Amendment and many consider it essential to maintain order in the United States of America. Even though this was the Second Amendment right granted to citizens in the Bill of Rights, many Americans opt not to own a gun, and others would like for this right to be abolished altogether. Both sides of this issue have a good argument, but when further researched, there are many more details that come up explain why siding against gun control is a better conclusion for the United States and its people. Some may say gun control should be enforced because it will make the pubic a safer place to be and decrease gun violence. “An average of eight children and teens under the age of twenty are killed by guns every day" ("Brady Campaign to prevent Gun Violence", 2012). The United States' current president, Barack Obama, is currently working on enforcing and passing more laws and legislation to protect the families and the citizens of the United States. The successful enforcement of our current laws would be a major stride toward decreasing the amount of crimes committed with guns and the amount of criminals with gun possession. The most challenging element of the gun control debate is whether existing gun laws are adequate or whether more gun laws need to be created and enforced.
Written on December 15, 1791 was the second amendment of the constitution. It states that "A well-regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed."(Cite)? United States citizens have used guns for various reasons that include protection, hunting, and sporting reasons. The topic on gun control is a very complex topic that is discussed daily. It is such a big issue that it has both the democrats and republicans firmly established in their positions. One of the main reasons this has been such an important topic in recent years is because of all the murders and massacres that have happened recently in the United States. As our newly nominated president, Donald
Groups for stricter gun control, such as Handgun Control Inc. (HCI), argue that guns do kill people. They think that it is the gun that makes people feel they are in the right and have the power to take someone 's life and control a situation (Kriegel 818). In reality, one cannot place the blame on the gun. Guns aren 't animate objects that can pick their victims. Guns require people to pull the trigger. For this reason it is my belief that the emphasis of gun control should be placed on teaching gun safety and keeping the criminals from getting their hands on firearms.
People always want what they cannot have, take away guns what is to stop people from buying them through an illegal source. They did try something similar to that with the war on drugs and all that has lead us to packed prisons for non violent offenders. In the article “Gun Control: exploring the issues” Dan O’Brien and Betty Stanton discuss the issues that by just tightening gun laws there will always be a way to get firearms, it won’t be legal but it will still happen. O’Brian and Stanton say “ Those who are willing to murder already demonstrate a disregard for human life and the laws associated with a balanced society.” (O’Brien) If the person involved in the mass shooting was a law abiding citizen then what would the motive for the killing of innocent people be. This article also talks about how mass media coverage has glamorized this subject and how it is effecting youth in America
"The world is filled with violence because criminals have guns , we good citizens should also have guns. Otherwise they would win and the decent people lose . "
Enforcing stricter laws on gun ownership is a controversial topic these days due to the recent shootings and massacres that have occurred in recent years. This has resulted in part of the population wanting to enforce gun control and remove all weapon ownership from United States Citizens. The rest of the United States wants to prevent the Government from violating their second amendment right the bear arms. This issue is so controversial that it has caused many people to rally and protest for their belief. It has also caused people to question government leadership. The need for a resolution is higher now than it has ever been and getting there is going to take a lot of work and a lot of arguments. Regardless of what side they take, all United
There is an American consensus for some form of gun control. “…[F]irearms were involved in two-thirds of all murders in the United States and [t]he United States leads the world's richest nations in gun deaths…murders, suicides, and accidental deaths due to guns - according to a study published by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in the International Journal of Epidemiology” (Lepore). There might be some far extreme people who think that all guns should be banned but most sane Americans do not think that gun rights should be abolished. Americans regard self-defense as the most compelling reason to have a gun and twenty-two percent of households have handguns in the United States. However many people do think that gun control laws must be enacted and enforced. Pro-gun extremists and the National Rifle Association’s (NRA) must understand that there is a real for many people at the uncontrolled s...
Also gun control has been proven in many ways that it does not reduce violence or crime. Gun control should be important to many people because it can help a country but in some cases it does not always help. Therefore people need to stop blaming gun control for everything and start taking into consideration that gun control is not the only factor in violence and crime. Gun control is important because it gives a citizen the right to be free and own a gun but when that citizen decides to not follow the law then he/she will have to deal with a punishment but the other citizens will have to hear about it and this will tempt governments to increase gun control laws and the more that gun control laws increase, as proven, gun related death rates will happen more and more. As you can see gun control is viewed as being a good law but others oppose and say that gun control does not reduce
When it comes down to mass shootings involving schools, concerts, and other public places, it’s not the guns itself, but it’s the people using them. Let’s say guns got banned and a scenario like this occurred. A robbery took place domestically, and the robber had an unregistered illegal gun that the government knew nothing about. Well, the family of four had a gun to protect their household just in case something like this occurred, but the government recently came and confiscated all the registered weapons. The dad of the household tries to fight off the robber but loses because he gets shot in all the commotion.
