Ah, Holiday break, could of came sooner, but no one is complaining. Two weeks of doing nothing… or something? The students of MT all have some plans, but what are they? Nora McQuain, an 8th grader here at MTMS, is going to be visiting Brazil for the first time ever. She says she’ll be with her family and she’s really excited! “A new tradition I’ll be participating in, is on New Year's eve the whole city will be going to the beach and we will celebrate there.” Nora excitingly. Hopefully we’ll see some cool pictures and hear some cool memories from her once she gets back! Some of us dream of spending holiday break some where crazy and fun, like South America, however, 6th grader Nikhil Arora enjoys a traditional break at home, where he says he’ll
be plotting how to open his Christmas presents without being caught for the first few days. Nikhil says, “I loves winter break because you eat and get to spend time with your family, and follow traditions you do growing up. We sit around the Christmas tree, and open presents with all of our family, then have a big dinner, and talk about life!” Spending time with your family is a blast, but Nikhil also say’s he’ll miss school, because, “I won’t be able to see my friends for a little while, but other than that, I won’t, because school can be stressful at times.” What will you be doing this winter break MT? We all look forward to hearing what you’ve done!
Most students look forward to fall and spring break. It’s a time of rest and relaxation and perhaps for a few, a chance to get ahead on assignments. These breaks are often something that I personally look forward too, furthermore assuming that this is the same for other students as well.
The school year has ended and summer has officially come. The season has brought nice weather and an important event called summer vacation. Most students enjoy this yearly event, mostly outside. But not so for Greg Heffley. In this book Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Dog Days by Jeff Kinney, Greg, a wimpy middle grade student wants to spend the entire summer in his house alone playing his favorite video games. However, his mother’s idea for her son is completely the opposite. This idea takes Greg to places throughout his neighborhood, a country club, a friend’s house, as well as his Grandma’s house. His diary entries chronicle the entire summer from his perspective.
Recently, there has been a concerted effort from the Brazilian government to project their country as a “serious” power on the international stage. After many years of what could be deem as a failure of realized potential, Brazil is finally beginning to understand its worth as a major contributor to world affairs. Given its strategic location as the second most important country on in the Western hemisphere, and arguably the most important country on the Southern hemisphere, Brazil is poised to become an international powerhouse, the like of which South America has never seen. To fully utilize the opportunities being presented to Brazil in the coming years it is imperative that the Dilma regime bolster its reputation through increased efforts of international cooperation with emerging world markets.
Vacations Can be hard to plan, especially during the holidays. Greg’s family plans a family vacation in a place where Greg’s parents had their honeymoon, that place is called, Isla de Corales. As usual with the Heffley’s, the trip goes horrible. The title of this book is, Diary of a wimpy kid: The Getaway. The author of the book is, Jeff Kinney. A brief summary is how Greg’s family plans a family vacation that doesn't turn out as well as they expected. First, Greg starts off by explaining how this trip came to mind. In the book, Greg says, “The commercial was for this place called, Isla de Corales, which is where mom and dad went for their honeymoon…” (Kinney 3). In the middle of the book, Greg’s family starts to get the trip ready and is off
As school comes to a closing, children start to get excited. They get to play outside, sleep in, and also not have to worry about tedious school work. But for some, summer vacation isn’t such a good thing. In Anna Quindlen's essay “School’s Out for Summer,” she explains how summer can be a struggle for some families. When school is in session, kids get lunch and if they come to school early, breakfast too. When school ends, families that can’t afford to feed their kids, have to find different way to get food. Quindlen does a great job persuading the readers as to why summer break isn’t such a good thing. In her essay she uses statistics, provides solutions people are trying to do, and she also uses pathos in her essay.
Illegal immigrants are makers, not takers. Many American citizens see these approximate 11 million illegal immigrants in a negative view and don’t want them living in their communities. However, many of these American citizens don’t know why illegal immigrants come here and what good they actually do to this country. Illegal immigration should be allowed because their quality of life is improved, they help the economy, and they bring job growth.
I have heard many great things about studying abroad from family and friends. I hear things, including: studying abroad allows one to experience another culture directly, helps you develop new skills that you cannot learn in a classroom, and also helps one learn about themselves. Listening to the people close to me talk about how amazing their time abroad, was made me realize it is something I desire to do. I know this opportunity will be extremely beneficial to me for numerous reasons: I want to learn more about who I am and my values, I have never been off of the continent before, it is a great thing to put on my résumé and will enhance employment opportunities. I will value studying abroad in Italy because this experience will assist me
Vacations are breathtaking ! There is nothing more that I could use right now more than an exhilarating, yet peaceful getaway. If I had the opportunity to take a vacation anywhere outside of the United States, I would choose to visit Costa Rica. I would choose Costa Rica, because I have always heard tales of how alluring the tropical rainforest is that surrounds the terrain of Costa Rica. Costa Rica is known for its incredible beaches, majestic mountains, and rich culture.
“Children hate summer vacation, they just love school so much,” said no one ever. Summer vacations are notorious for a time to relax, unwind, and have fun. Children look forward to no school and playing outside. “Currently the summer holiday is viewed by many Americans as the backbone of our country’s school system” (Pedersen, n.d.). Having no school and doing whatever a child desires may sound good, but in the course of summer vacation, it effects their memory. The regular school year calendar disturbs children’s learning ability (Ballinger, 2008). Students lose 2.6 months of lessons over the summer (Bennecke, 2012).Schools ought to change their school year because it would benefit the children and teachers.
Like an open door to a million dollar mansion, the border between the U.S and Mexico is left open and unguarded, leaving the whole country vulnerable to all the disasters and problems these Mexicans bring with them. These illegal immigrants have not only come in large numbers but have also come to take all the work that all the naturalized citizens have worked so hard to earn. A few of the many problems they have brought with them is the millions of pounds of drugs they hope to sell on the streets, not only this but, also the large amounts of gang violence and racial wars; posing a new threat to the children of America. The money that is meant for all the tax paying citizens is going to these undocumented people that have sneaked out of their country to seek the rewarded meant for all the legal citizens.
The first time you travel solo can be a nerve-wracking experience. Possibly, for the first time in your life, you only have yourself to rely on. Theres the little experiences, like not having anyone to look after your bag when you go to the airport bathroom. Then, theres the big ones, like finding yourself stranded with nowhere to sleep at midnight, because youve been locked out of your hostel.
Brazil is the largest country in South America and one of the most influential. The geography of Brazil is mostly flat to rolling lowlands in the northern areas along with plains, hills, mountains, and narrow coastal belt in the southern region (brazil.org.za, 2015). The area is rich in natural resources such as timber forests and mineral resources such as iron ore, diamonds, quartz and petroleum (Gigli, 2015). While Brazil’s economy has been commodity based in recent years technology investors have begun to establish business there a Brazil begins to invest more in technology and science (Lowman, 2014) .
I. This year a study conducted by UC Merced discovered that 97% of study abroad students found employment within 12 months of graduation, when only 49% of college graduates found employment in the same period. (UC Merced, 2016)
At last holiday here! For many of us it means a long car trips south or flight trips to distant shores - with its long waits at airports.
“The human contribution is the essential ingredient, it is only in the giving of oneself to others that we truly live” (Ethel Percy Andrews). This quote is describing volunteering as a very important part in people’s lives. It is saying that you do not quite live until you contribute and benefit the lives of people less fortunate than yourself. There are many opportunities to volunteer, and some of the most wondrous experiences come from volunteer tourism. This type of tourism is one of the best in my opinion because not only do you get to travel, but you also provide your service for others that are not as prosperous. While participating in this type of tourism, many people gain new skills while also benefitting the lives of others. Along
