Genetically modified foods are one of keys in helping us to advance, our modern Health methods. Gmos have been an idea for a while, but have only been a reality for a short amount of time. The basic idea of genetically modified is changing the genetic makeup of a certain food to make it healthier or more durable. Many foods in the US are already being modified, like Corn, Canola, and Soy. This is an incredible advancement of our modern technology that we should continue to develop, and use.
We should allow the the Genetically modified foods to be sold in public grocery stores, and we should sell it to farmers. First of all, genetically modified foods are better for the environment because the do not need insecticides. "Insecticides generally have a broad spectrum, and they kill lots of different types of insects, not just the pests," said study author Michelle Marvier of Santa Clara University in California(National Geographic). This can cause animals to struggle in their natural habitat and even become endangered. This is important because, foods that have no pesticides are healthier for us and the environment in which they are grown.

In the world 1.5 million children die yearly from diarrhea! It can help safely, and cheaply administer diarrhea vaccines throughout the earth, especially in the poorer countries of Africa and South East Asia. It is easier on the children because, it does not need a shot to have an effect so it would make the process of the immunization simpler and faster. Also, GMOs are useful because they can make everyday foods healthier and taste better. They can also help picky eaters get key nutrients but not have them eat any food that is unappealing. These foods can be changed to both grow faster and look better. “Arctic Apples” are being developed to not brown after being cut. Plus, there are salmon that are Genetically modified to grow almost twice as large as normal salmon(Columbia University). These are important, because the apples are appealing to those who are picky. They would not have the blemishes that normal apples would have also, they would not brown, and look older than they are, and this would help children(and adults) eat more healthy foods like apples. The salmon would be twice as big so they would produce more nutrients as well as being able to feed larger amounts of people. Next, a type of GM rice called golden rice has been altered to contain higher levels of Vitamin A. This is important because it allows us to insert important nutrients into another food allowing people to not have to eat foods they do not like or are allergic to but can still let them get the nutrients they need. Next, through the modification of foods, the flavors can be enhanced. Peppers can become spicier or sweeter. Corn can become sweeter. Difficult flavors can become more palatable(Health Research Funding). This would also help picky eaters get nutrients by eating the same foods but have it taste better that it did before. The final reason is, genetically modified foods are our best option for combating world hunger.
According to a study at Columbia University, gmos are an option because they can be modified to be more resistant to weather and weeds. They can also be altered to be pest resistant so they can grow in areas with huge amounts of bugs. This can help us combat hunger because, they can be grown in places that previously had no growing capabilities. This can help poor countries get the food that they need without overspending. Although some people would say that there is enough food in the world to feed everyone; which is true, it is not a solvable problem because in some areas of the world the food cannot grow or countries are too poor to be able to buy the foods that they need to
survive. Overall the idea of genetically modifying our food to make it more durable, tastier, and even healthier is a cause to fight for. You can help advance this idea by going through school and becoming a scientist. It can help those in need get food, and help the human race

Iowan farmer Reg Clause suggests you may not in his column, “Say ‘no’ to GMO labeling.” Reminding readers that general election day has come, he attempts to convince us that a certain law should be voted against. It can harm organisms that you might not mean to kill. Some people may say that GM crops can stop world hunger. IT WILL NOT! Research shows that some GM crops can not meet the nutritional needs of a human being. Indeed, some claims are not well supported and may require testing, like genetic alteration through consumption or the validity of correlating animal health deficits with GM feeds. However, overall, GM foods clearly affect the world negatively in terms of biodiversity and ecosystem impacts.

So basically the American consumer has no way to make informed choices. If by any chance any of these products cause adverse side effects in the future Americans are completely at the mercy of the retailers.
