Essay For decades the United States of America has stressed the importance of food safety by discovering and preventing outbreaks. Fifteen states have united with the CDC food safety programs to get ahead of persevering foodborne epidemics. The FDA Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA) empowers the FDA to better defend public health by firming up the food safety system. Congress has shown explicit enactment dates in the legislation. No one who desires to be employed in the preparation, cooking, and serving of food can be given the opportunity to work if said person has any communicable disease. This includes working in a regular food facility restaurant or halls were food is being served and prepared. To be become an appropriately assembled kitchen or dining hall it must be suitable in size. It must also be isolated from any type of sleeping housings of any of the personnel or their relatives shall be provided in connection with all food-handling facilities. There should also be no opening to these any housing directly from the facilities. Not only do the accommodations need to be up to par, but the equipment used of the foodstuff also has regulations. This certain designs are instilled so the equipment can be efficiently washed and disinfected. To make sure the food equipment is up to date for widespread cleanliness and appropriate installation, this is were the more routine inspections come into play as well. Food is becoming more intergraded into our planning and urban design. The plan is to have more fresh vegetables and fruits readily available in a 15-minute walk of every person’s household, stimulating street food and wholesome corner stores a dynamic portion of our metropolitan surroundings. It will revolutionize the way the food in the United States is produced, distributed and integrated into our society. The pubic policies let us be confidant that the quality of the foods we consume will most definitely be up to par with our nations standards. Health policy is equally important; it makes sure agencies like the CDC and the FDA carry out their duties in the FSMA. Which include foodborne illness prevention in the United States. Finally our urban planning and development will be an extensive challenges but also a step forward when it comes to the Food Safety. As a society we were too focused on all the new found technology and how many sky risers we can build, and did not notice how important it is to have nature in our surroundings. At this day in age we need to take a step backwards when it comes to urban planning and incorporate nature into these metropolitan environments once again. Not only will food be more readily available for that are in need but also prevents use of many pesticides that can cause harm to humans. I don't think our school lunch is healthy because it has fat and too much sodium. Although it is good it is fattening it is the reason for much of the obesity in the U.S. Many kids have no other option to eat the unhealthy school lunches or they will be hungry.

Thirty years from now I bet we will not have to worry about food borne illnesses and contamination of imported products because our government agencies will be so sophisticated and high tech that all of those worries will be long forgotten. I think President Obama has done our country some good by passing The Food Safety Modernization Act back in January of 2011. As I mentioned in this paper, some disagree with this law and I see both sides of the argument. Small farm owners at home and overseas could potentially be put out of business by this law, but then again do we as consumers really want to be eating food that is not safe? This shows me that he is concerned about our Nation’s health and reducing the number of foodborne illnesses every year. I am hoping that we will continue to build on this law and improve with every year.
After taking a closer look at the American diet, it 's clear to see Americans are in a lot of trouble. The average American diet is filled with lots of greasy fast food, large cuts of meat, salty junk food and sugar-laden sodas. This tradition is then passed on to the children and creates a legacy of ailments, disease and a lower quality of life. To many people, plant-based eating sounds like a death sentence. In reality, it 's all about getting creative with the foods you already like. It also involves intentional meal-planning and organization. However, your health is worth it. The ability to experience a better quality of life should be motivation enough to start changing your eating habits. Consider a few of these simple ways to incorporate plant-based eating into each meal without eliminating delicious taste.
One of the most insidious “diseases” plaguing our nation is poor nutrition. While obesity is an epidemic, we focus too much on heavy people and not enough on all the others around them that are truly malnourished and yet don’t show any “traditional” signs. These other portions of the population shows their irregular nourishment through high rates of chronic illness and even possibly through mental illness. Just because someone is “this”, does not mean they are nutritionally sound. So while in 10 years’ time almost 50% of our population will be obese, a much higher percentage will be malnourished if we keep on this trend. Inevitably malnourished populations will continue to be a public health crisis through the rise in chronic disease and higher medical costs due to the burden these populations put on the healthcare system. This is why we need to focus on reducing food deserts, increase nutritional education at a young age, and create a culture of mindfulness around cooking and eating whole foods.
With the ever-growing population of animal lovers on earth, a more viable, humane solution for food consumption needs to be made, but why make a solution when there has already been one? Meat consumption has been proven time and time again to be unnecessary, but that doesn’t stop the average person from eating a double cheese burger with bacon. Whenever I go out to eat, I always comb through the menu for specific words: shark, snake, grizzly, etc. It 's not that I don 't like more standard dishes. I love a good steak as much as the next guy, but that sort of thing just doesn 't excite me anymore. If I’m going to commit murder by eating meat, as the animal rights people say, I want my murder to count. I hunger for danger foods. Imagine living a life without eating anything with an animal product in it. No meat, fish, milk, eggs, honey, not even gelatin. Vegans are people who adapt a lifestyle where they live without any animal based goods; some do this for the health benefits that come with eliminating meats and dairy. However, in overwhelming aspects of American society, food is viewed as an enemy. It is seen as the root cause of obesity which carries heavy condemnations of ugliness and weakness. Food safety is an increasingly important public health issue. Governments all over the world are intensifying their efforts to improve food safety. Food borne illnesses are diseases, usually either infectious or toxic in nature, caused by agents that enter the body through the ingestion of food. “In industrialized countries, the percentage of people suffering from food borne diseases each year has been reported to be up to 30%. In the United States of America, for example, around 76 million cases of food borne diseases, resulting in 325,000 hospitalizations and 5,000 deaths, are estimated to occur each year.” (Geneva 2)

Eating Responsibly To eat responsibly means to know what you are eating and knowing what you are putting into your body, whether it is healthy for you or not. It’s a sad fact that the typical American diet (high in meat and processed foods) is not healthy. There are a lot of different ways to stay healthy, but it can also be very difficult to follow a good diet plan all the time. I know that breakfast is the most important meal of the day, and I have tried to eat well before all of my classes.
