What would you do if you found $100 on the street? Would you keep it or try to find the owner? The December 2017 and January 2018 Scholastic Scope debate “Finders Keepers?” was written to see the opinions of the readers. Two kids happen to find $100 on the street, Jack says that keeping the money is the right thing since they didn’t steal it. But, Leah on the other hand would like to find the owner of the money. Therefore, it is wrong to keep the money and the owner of the money is probably concerned. We must try to find the owner, if we don’t try it might be against the law. Even though people would “keep” the money that doesn’t make it right.
Have you lost something? I’m sure you were devastated. Imagine that you had lost $100 on your
walk home from the park. Where do you look? How do you feel after you just lost $ 100? $100 is a lot of money. If you lose that kind of money wouldn’t you want it back? Put yourself in their shoes, they may not fit but at least you are trying to find the owner. Scholastic Scope Magazine say “my concern is for the person who lost the money is just one reason I think it is wrong to keep it.”(Scholastic 26). There is a good chance of finding the owner and think of how the owner will feel after they receive their money. Money is a very touchy subject for most people. Some people have more money than others. $100 can change a person's life like saving their house from foreclosure or buying nutritious foods. How knows it maybe it can be against the law. According to the Scholastics Scope Magazine “it’s actually illegal to keep money you find on the street with if it's impossible to find the owner.” If there is a owner in need of that money wouldn’t you want to return it?
It would hurt me to say this, but if I was Frank, I would of took the money under one condition. But, before I take the money, I would of done everything Frank did by reporting it and going to the Mayor and eventually taking it to court. I believe Frank was right by doing all of that, but sometimes you have to realize that you have done everything you possibly could of. This is where I would of start taking the money if I was in Frank’s position. I would of taken the money and give it all to charity because of one reason, my life. It was very evident that Frank’s life was in danger towards the end of the movie. To stay alive, I would of took every cent that they gave to me, and give it to someone who really needed
As a 10 year old boy in My Losing Season the state of loss is different as it goes on due to the matter that he develops an attitude of how he goes along with ever disaster he encounters. To Pat Conroy his meaning of loss refers to as “ I felt like I was being kidnapped
Imagine for a moment it is your big sister's 17th birthday. She is out with her friends celebrating, and your parents are at the mall with your little brother doing some last minute birthday shopping, leaving you home alone. You then hear a knock on the front door. When you getthere, nobody is there, just an anonymous note taped to the door that says Happy Birthday, along with a hundred dollar bill. You've been dying to get that new video game, and your sister will never know. You are faced with a tough decision, but not a very uncommon one. In both Fences, by August Wilson, and A Raisin in the Sun, by Lorraine Hansbury, tough decisions have to be made about getting money from someone else's misfortune. But money's that important right?
The United States is one of the only few democratic countries that disenfranchises convicted felons. An estimated 5.85 million people charged with a felony are banned from voting. Moreover, felon disenfranchisement laws are a form of racial discrimination because a large percentage of felons are Hispanic, Latino or African American that have been incarcerated as a result of racial profiling. Denying felons from voting is unconstitutional since the right to vote and cast a ballot is supposed to be the cornerstone of democracy. Felons who have completed their sentence should be restored their right to vote as they should be able to participate in elections just like every other citizen. Despite being charged with a felony, felons are also American
Hunters often reveal that being in nature provides time to clear the mind. In the woods, there is no rush, no schedule, and no deadlines; nature moves at its own pace. This interaction provides a deep spiritual connection with the land, the wildlife, and our planet. Hunting has been around since the beginning of time and has been in many people 's lives for generations, these are some reasons why people all across America continue to hunt. Hunting has many benefits such as reducing deer related car accidents, controlling deer densities in heavily human populated areas, creates jobs, and feeding and supporting families. Thus, deer hunting is necessary for several reasons.
A social outrage has broken recently amid the scandal of Cecil the Lion’s death. Cecil was illegally hunted and killed by the American dentist Walter Palmer. Since then, it has caused the world to change their minds on the effects of trophy hunting. Succeeding the death of the renowned lion, a recent poll in America displays that on a three to one margin, the respondents said they would rather be tourists in a country that prohibits trophy hunting, instead of one that does not. The debate is ascending as more hunters proudly present their ‘trophy’ on social media. Many nature conservatives and animal protection agencies are raising awareness because of the fact that Cecil died in a meaningless and violent manner. The problem is not only in America, but around the globe. Trophy hunting should be illegal in the world because it is merely killing animals without a meaningful purpose, and it produces harmful effects to the environment.
In the current day of age, have you ever held back a debatable racial joke or comment? For the United States, racial equality has become a priority. Therefore, being politically correct has become important for many American citizens. Refraining from debatable comments has specially been important for figures in the media. In one example, Kelly Osbourne, a talk show host on The View, made a comment in which applied all maids are Latinos. The comment has raised controversy arguing if she should be considered a racist. Kelly Osbourne made a racial slur based off a stereotype, although she might show racial tendencies, her comment doesn’t make her a racist.
Conservationists and the ranchers that are having financial issues caring for their animals, without utilizing hunting, can take advantage of other resources to gain revenue. The ranch operators need to find alternatives to gain a source of income such as acquiring sponsors, donations, conducting guided tours or perhaps, providing educational programs. There are more humane methods of earning money than the killing of animals. Making use of the public's curiosity and interests is a resourceful tactic that can be very successful and beneficial to the economy.
Years ago, killing animals for food was part of the average man’s everyday life. While, now a days, hunting is questioned by many across the world because it is commonly viewed as a recreational activity. Many residents have a problem with the dangers that come with hunting. Not to mention, as time goes on, society seems to feel differently about animals and how they should be treated. One of the biggest debates is the harvest of white tailed deer. All over the United States, white tailed deer thrive because of the few predators that feast upon them and the large forests and habitats that these deer can flourish in. However, as buildings and subdivisions pop up left and right decreasing the white tailed deer natural habitat, the debate grows stronger. The heart of the debate is centered around ethical issues, human and deer conflicts, safety, and the benefits hunting has on the economy.
Imagine having 10 students fail an exam in a class of 15 people. If over half of the students don’t grasp the content than the root of the issue must be on the way they are being taught. If this was the case the teacher will probably have to take a different approach on the way he/she is teaching in order to ensure the success of all students and not just a few of them. If the educational system fails students, then hope of a better future is very unlikely. Likewise, when the system fails to guide prisoners on the right path, they are not only failing inmates individually, but they are also failing society.
Over the years, the cost of college tuition has been one of the central issues limiting students, like me, from obtaining the best education that one could receive. Usually, this results in students settling for a school nearby rather than being able to have the choice to go to the best one in which they were accepted into, due to such skyrocket prices. Much of this problem or concern has to do with out-of-state tuition being much higher than in-state tuition, sometimes almost doubling the price of in-state tuition! Therefore, students are more pressured to remain in state rather than go to out-of-state schools that may offer a better education.
Although, Huntsville Police annually brings in the most drug arrests for the state, it’s not the city’s main priority to meet an arrest quota. Instead, the police force usually catch these offenders after stoping them for traffic violations. When an officer stops an individual for reckless driving and suspicion of driving under the influence, he or she will often smell a mixture of alcohol and marijuana. With probable cause, the officer will then search the vehicle and often times finds the individual in possession:
Over the last ten years people in the United State and around the world have heavily relied more on their debit or credit cards to process transactions of their purchases. In the old days it used to be when you would get your paycheck on Friday and rush to the bank during your break or lunch in order to cash withdraw your funds or deposit them into your account. It used to be where you carry cash to buy groceries, pay bills, and go shopping. Now some people don’t even set foot inside their bank branch because they are paid using direct deposit or the funds are loaded into a debit card provided by their employer. Many employers from around the globe don’t even issue paper check anymore. Bills are often times paid online, babysitters are accepting electronic payment such as PayPal and even food trucks now take electronic payments. According to a Washington Post column by Michelle Singletary society and businesses embrace using cashless ways to pay for things than the old time traditional “cold hard cash”. In my opinion there should still be cash circulating out in the world. My first ...
For centuries, humans have been hunting for food; but in today’s society, hunting is no longer necessary. Advances in the modern world gave people access to Grocery stores and Supermarkets where they can purchase meat instead of going into the woods to shoot down and slaughter an animal in order to feed their families. There is nothing wrong with hunting for food and there may even be times when hunting is necessary for human survival. Unfortunately, because hunting for survival is no longer the norm, much of today 's hunting is done for sport, trophies, or just for the rush of a kill. When, in reality, sport hunting is cruel, unnecessary, and should be banned globally.
Obedience is defined as a compliance with an order, request, law, or submission to another 's authority. The problem with obedience is that we, as civilians, are blinded by authorities power and lose our right to free will. Obedience to authority leaves our minds to be corrupted by power, resulting in us taking on roles, participating in conformity, and performing thoughtless acts.
