Pets aren 't just animals, they are the creatures we selected to come into our lives to bring us happiness. Silas House states that if we stop as see what is in front of us we would be happier (House). He also states that if people were more like dogs we wouldn’t have a lot of the issues we have in the world (House). I believe that we have three faces: The face you show your family, the face you show the outside world, and the real you face. The face you show your family is the face that you want to portray yourself as, ‘the good one’, ‘the bad one’, ‘the smart one’ they know you and see you but you don’t tell them everything. The face you show the world is what’s known as the ‘fake face’ the face you put up to make people thing your …show more content…
Most girls my age were head over heels for boys, I admit I was too, nothing got to me like a small puppy. My mom’s coworkers Chihuahua had a litter of three puppies. We walked in and saw all three of them cuddled to each other. Nancy picked up the pup that they were giving away. Honestly he was meant to be a replacement for my dad’s old Chihuahua but I claimed him. His tri-color fur, big ears, and cold wet black nose was calling for me. I took the small first born pup in my hands he had a huge head. Nancy explained that he was a dear Chihuahua and that they looked similar to apple heads with big heads. He grew into his body. His now seems proportional to his body his ear will always stick up and his tail will always be curled. He can run at a speed for twenty miles per minute when racing my car. He is the first thing I see when I get out of my car and the last thing I see whenever I have to leave. Sniper couldn’t have been more perfect for me. He is over protective and insists on being right on top of my lap when a boy comes over, like he is saying that the only man I will ever need his him. He rarely barks at nothing, rarely we have to give the occasional ‘be quiet’ look or call his name and he stops. He is spoiled down to the bone. I wouldn’t have it any other way for my best friend. He doesn’t lie, doesn’t talk about me behind my back, in …show more content…
We get mad at each other, we our separate ways, then while sitting down on the couch he will come and get right in my face. We apologize without saying anything. He is my best friend the person I tell all my secrets too. The one I run to when upset, knowing that he will calm me down. He gets jealous, overprotective, and he is a big sweetheart. He might weigh 11.2lbs but those 11.2lbs are the pounds I want to keep for the rest of my life. I mess with, I’ll growl at him, he will do the same to me. If I’m lying on the couch he will come and get right in my face so I can’t see the TV. He will act like he is going to bite my fingers and growl at me like I am hiding his favorite chew bone. If I get sick and lay down on the couch he finds it necessary to lay his head on my butt and his body on my thighs. The secret language between pet and owner you do not move while your pet sleeps on you. I like to mess with Sniper the most when he is sleeping, no retaliation, the occasional grunt, and the small bunny rabbit like kicks all of this makes me laugh. Sounds like torture, but it is me showing him love and wanting to receive more love back from him. What I love about dogs is that a dog is the only thing that will love you more that it loves
In the short story “Dog,” Russo paints the picture of a strong willed boy who is amongst parents who don’t understand what the real problem which is his lack of parents attention and bad parenting when dealing with his extreme obsessions over getting a dog.
I’ve always felt that animals are the purest spirits in the world. They don’t fake or hide their feelings, and they are the most loyal creatures on Earth and somehow we humans think we’re smarter. I chose this topic about the canine because, some of these canines risk their life’s to protect dog’s best friend.
Christopher McCandless’ long, fascinating, but an ultimately fatal journey into the wilderness of Alaska is depicted in the biography, Into the Wild, written by Jon Krakauer. Late in the of summer of 1990, a very young Christopher McCandless left his ordinary world in Annandale, Virginia to pursue a solitary life in the untamed wilds of Alaska. Many will insinuate that Christopher McCandless’ actions were childish and idiotic, but a stronger argument would be that his unconventional thinking and desire to live life on his own terms allowed him to reach self-actualization.
When you look at someone’s pet you may not think it can teach you anything or do anything for you besides being there for you. However, a study in Austria, conducted by Pauleen Bennett and Jordan Schaan, discovered that pets became “instructors” for their owners in living a better life. “People felt they could derive unconditional love and forgiveness from their dogs, whereas human beings seemed more likely to disappoint one another” (Yuhas, 1). This statement reveals how negatively humans view each other. If a person rather be with an
Have you ever wondered how some athletes have gotten so good at a certain sport? Have you ever thought about what they did in order for them to get this good? For some the answer is simple; workout and train. But for others the answer is different; the use of performance enhancing drugs such as steroids. There are some people that argue that steroids should be legalized and allowed in professional sports. Other people argue that steroids should not be allowed. Today I am going to state my opinion and justify my reason. Steroids should not be allowed in professional sports because it can be very dangerous to the athlete’s health, it is a way to gain and un-fair advantage and it can be dangerous in both social and physical aspects.
Community colleges in California should offer two years of free education to students that are responsible. First, by making community college free for two years, struggling low income families can get a two year education at their local community college. By going to a free college people can save money for two years and transfer out to a better college with the money that they have saved. More student will switch from expensive colleges, and come to a less expensive college and acquire their Associate's degree. Next, some of the students will realize that they are going to graduate from an expensive college, and they are going to leave with a diploma and a huge debt in loans. Some people just need an Associate's Degree to get the job that they want and people can get that in two years. For example to become a police officer, people need an Associate's degree, and be twenty one years of age. Last, the crime in the cities will be reduced if community colleges would offer free education. Most people that are in the streets doing bad things are the ones who dropped out of high school because college was going to be too
Going to college has been getting more expensive every year since colleges started. Going to college gives a student a chance to find a career in their major of choice. The only problem is that it isn’t always guaranteed. There are millions of graduated students that can’t find jobs in their major. Most of those students have student loans that they still owe and can’t afford to pay off. The average student with student loans owes over $25,000 and that doesn’t include all that interest that piles up every month. The United States should make college tuition free for everyone that has a high school degree. That can be achieved by making colleges give free tuition, changing the way interest piles up, and by lowering the military budget.
I am adventurous. No I don't sky dive, wrestle crocodiles, or swim with sharks, but when asked by a group of friends to go cliff diving last summer, my best response was, “Sounds like fun!” I had never been afraid of heights yet have never experienced the thrill of cliff diving. All I could ask myself was, “What could go wrong?”
A growing number of studies have attempted to support the theory that cats and dogs differ in their personality attributes. Several common factors have emerged across these studies, such as difference among social behaviours. Higher levels of dominance and hostility have been reported among domestic cats (as cited in Fonberg, 1985). Not surprisingly, domesticated dogs are higher in submissive behaviours (as cited in Marder, 1989). Woodward et al. also reflect upon previously held theories of companion animal attachment that suggest attachment is mediated by the needs of the owner and the characteristics of their pet.
Since the dawn of humanity, exercise has been crucial for physical survival. In recent times, however, exercise is losing its significance to human survival. Some would argue that it already has lost its significance, and as exercise becomes less important, people exercise less. According to fitness.gov, only 33% of adults receive the recommended amount of physical activity each week (citation). Clearly there is a problem. However, there is still a fraction of the population that exercises diligently. Why do these people stick with it? Exercise has countless advantages that are still extremely important to our lives. So even though the need of exercise may appear to be diminishing, the practical effects should be enough to encourage people
“A dog is a man’s best friend” goes much deeper than the phrase might initially imply. Recently many medical journals have begun to identify with the many and varied benefits of pet ownership. Men have always relied upon animals for work, transportation, and survival. As times have changed, man has begun to appreciate a different bond with animals. Gone are the days of animals running free outside around the homestead, for now animals are allowed inside and are considered by many to be an integral part of our daily lives! Medical studies have found that animals have a much greater intelligence level than originally thought. Through proper training and experience, animals are not only household pets, but also are becoming an accepted form of medical treatment.
Education is a huge topic of controversy, society is always trying to reform what we know as education today. Right now, the first 12 years of education are entirely free for students directly, but in the end are paid for by the taxpayers of the town. The question is, why should only grades k-12 be free why not a college education too? On the other hand, there are some exceptions to free schooling at the k-12 levels. The most prominent being, Private schooling, most towns in the United States have at least one if not many private schools. They require a certain amount in tuition for each of its students every year. An example of this, in my town Salem, NH one of the most known private catholic schools is St. Joseph 's. I had a good friend a few years back
Every fall high school seniors around the globe are in a state of panic. Of course you are no stranger to this process, you have dealt with this stress firsthand. What process is being described you may ask? The process of applying to college. Each year seniors scramble to submit applications, transcripts, and letters of recommendations to the schools of their choice. These documents are essential for nearly all students who want to advance to an institution of higher learning, but for many the paper trail does not end there. Seniors interested in a career in art, well specifically in visual art, need one more thing to obtain that sparkling acceptance letter. That missing link is a portfolio.
...iterally. Dogs have that funny little way of making you know he is happy, and, dogs are actually known to smile. A dog is a pack animal, you are their family and their responsibility to their family is to love you and protect you. A dog will always return the love that you show them, such as always being at the door to greet you whenever you get home. A dog will follow you wherever you go. If your watching a movie, he will be the warmth beside you. If you are cooking in the kitchen, he will be at your feet waiting for just one ingredient to drop to the floor. A dogs love for its owner is a true love.
Several different approaches are used to communicate healthy life choices; some examples are lectures, training objectives, individual coaching, and patient counseling sessions (Trident, n.d.). The thought of sending an e-card to get someone 's attention about a health issue is new to me. Sure I’ve sent e-greating cards, but I would’ve never thought of the idea to use e-cards to raise awareness. After visiting the HealthFinders website and viewing several of the e-cards, I choose an e-card from the category of Healthy Celebration. I chose the e-card titled “Happy New Year”. What caught my eye with this card was the “Happy New Year” message. The bright colors caught my eye and the children playing in the snow was very appealing to me.
