Everyone has to take English 9 whether they choose Honors English 9 or regular English 9. Everyone know the easier route is English 9. If you pay attention in class, you will learn lots of great stuff in either class. However, in Honors English 9, you will learn many more great things on top of what you will learn in English 9. Who doesn’t want more? Everyone wants to learn more right? Three main things that I hope to obtain in Honors English 9 are a greater vocabulary, a more in depth knowledge of types of writing, and my main hope is that Honors English 9 will help learn what to do in AP classes.
Happy New Year and the second semester of the school year. The first semester was a test on how students would blend into the new academics. Honors English was a great choice I made in middle school and I would recommend it to any incoming freshman. I have learned new ways to create claims and the proper way to set up paragraphs. Learning the way to set up paragraphs has improved my writing skills, even out of the english classroom. English comes in handy in the World Geography classroom as I have learned and may be useful in the future.
The first thing that I learned on English 111 was the importance of being an active reader. It was important for me to be an active reader in English 111 because as a brief eight weeks course, there is not enough time to do everything. I had to read entire chapters that will guide me to make my finals assignments for almost every class, and read just to comply with my lectures could not
Throughout high school, the English courses were very time consuming and over whelming resulting in me disliking the subject even more. The assignments and readings that were usually given took up the majority of my time; this resulted in work from my other courses being left unfinished. My last two years of school consisted of research papers and in class compositions. But nothing compared to the tedious work that I encountered my junior and senior year when I decided to challenge myself by taking AP English courses. Many people said it was just like any other English course with a little extra writing involved; my view was completely different. The AP English class...
Is it true that the use of utterances and linguistic functions in verbal communication, wherein the comprehensive communicative act, comprise more rhetorical power than the written word? Why people generally prefer face-to-face interaction to discuss significant issues rather than using electronic media at our fingertips? “Why do people meet in debating chambers to make rules and reach political positions when they could surely more easily handle the complexity of the issues and the large amount of relevant data by exchanging documents and be done with it?” (Furniss, 2004, P. 1) This article will help you in deciding if the spoken word has more rhetorical power
...nors English 10. However, according to the new system, only sophomores will be properly rewarded for their work in this class. Changing the qualification to take AP English Language and Composition from a grade level requirement to requirements based on ability would have many benefits. It would allow all qualified students to challenge themselves academically instead of hindering some students with an unnecessary intermediate course. Students would be able to follow their already made four year plans. Furthermore, making some sophomores take an extra course could reduce the amount students are challenged and could damage their motivation to take English classes earlier. Therefore, qualified incoming sophomores should be allowed to take AP English Language and Composition as their English class, as they are currently competent and mature enough to take the course.
Even though I work in a school district where we are expected to watch videos on bullying annually, this series was eye opening to the real problem of bullying. According to the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development three out of ten children are a bully, victim, or both. Another statistic from the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development reveals that 3.2 million youth are bullied and 3.7 million youth are the bullies. These statistics are staggering. The characteristics of bullying is repeated aggressive behavior that is carried out over time with the intent of inflicting verbal, nonverbal, or physical harm to another individual. Normal peer conflict happens infrequently between two equal
For those in high school already starting to focus on college, there is a drive to do well in all areas of their character to boost the appearance of their college application. Students usually try to excel on the SATs, maintain a high GPA, and involve themselves in extracurricular activities in order to become the well-rounded, “renaissance man” or woman that colleges can’t surpass. Students understand that it is important to try their best in everything that they do, but should a three-hour, multiple choice test be a deciding factor on whether or not a person gets accepted into a college? Critics of the SAT accuse it of being classist, racist, a poor reflection of academic promise, and plainly unnecessary. The idea of the SAT is has potential
Education is a huge topic of controversy, society is always trying to reform what we know as education today. Right now, the first 12 years of education are entirely free for students directly, but in the end are paid for by the taxpayers of the town. The question is, why should only grades k-12 be free why not a college education too? On the other hand, there are some exceptions to free schooling at the k-12 levels. The most prominent being, Private schooling, most towns in the United States have at least one if not many private schools. They require a certain amount in tuition for each of its students every year. An example of this, in my town Salem, NH one of the most known private catholic schools is St. Joseph 's. I had a good friend a few years back
I feel as though this class has helped me become a more polished and professional writer. When I first entered English 110, I was extremely unsure and lacked confidence in my writing. I believe that this point can be partly attributed to the fact that I had always had my instructors holding my hand and helping me through the writing process in high school. My senior English teacher always reminded us that college would be much more challenging than her class was and then she would go on to tell us stories of professors who gave out zeros for tiny oversights within a paper. This combined with general apprehension about college life left me terrified. I had always been a strong writer in high school; I know how to form an argument and support
I should receive a passing grade in this class because I can write now. Not just an exaggeration, but after another semester of English I finally feel confident that can write. Three of the reasons behind my confidence is I learned, I experienced and best of all I repeated. These three values helped prepare me for what is in store in English 1302 and here is why.
All along last year high school students have been exposed to the privilege of attending various school clubs, which include robotics, dance, and even art. But this has ended when they were canceled due to many concerns are given out by teachers. Many concerns include: taking an amount of time from their periods, either 5-10 minutes. Although many students agree that canceling school clubs is for the better, this essay will state why school clubs should be returned. This will be addressed by, stating reasons why school clubs should be returned and countering negative concerns.
As the ISIS joined the war in Middle East, an increasing number of people are trying to escape from the warzone in Syria and Iraq. They are facing the problem which is how to survive during the migration. Most of them could be died. The Federal Government has announced it will accept 12,000 extra refugees affected by conflict in Syria and Iraq. This additional quota is on top of the existing 13,750 places already set aside for this financial year. Because of the existence of potential risks such as crimes, terrorism and government spending, some people refuse to intake the refugees while the others are arguing about humanism. So, after refugees come into Australia, there may be conflict between citizens and refugees. The Government needs to
One of the most commonly asked questions we get as travel bloggers and vloggers aside from "Are you married?" Yes, people always question that... is "Damon and Jo, how do you guys learn languages so quickly?" or "How are you so good at speaking different languages?" We need you to hold up a hot second because it is never "easy," nor are we good at it right away! Every language learning process comes with struggles, embarassement, and eventually, just maybe, fluency. Recently I 've been determined to take on Italian. I threw myself in a situation where I had no choice but to speak Italian all day for ten days, and I started noticing that there are some severe symptoms that comes the journey to being a polyglot. If you feel one or more of these
As a second language learner, English is the one of the most difficult subject for me to learn. As a young girl, I was taught the phonics and the alphabet. As each year passed, I learned to put those letters together to make words, sentences, and finally paragraphs into essays. My English increases every year, and each year my English grows without understanding. When I arrived in English 908, my whole new perspective changed. I realized there is more to writing than just putting words on the paper. I have accomplished a variety of goals I once thought were unattainable. This English 908 class has really allowed me to expand my essay structure and the ways of thinking in writing.
Many don’t realize that the road to success isn’t so much a road as it is a winding,
