Over 100 years people have been relying on combustion fuel like oil and diesel to move their vehicles around. We are all depending on fuel for our vehicles but this will only cause problems over the years, especially since this types of fuels are limited and the reserves are running out. This is why many companies are starting to create many electric cars to meet our transportation needs. This alternate-fuel cars that are not only energy efficient but also help us in many other ways. There are many reasons why we should switch to electric cars but i’m only going to give 5 reasons that i think are the most important. The first reason is that they …show more content…
lastly the EV charging stations can be powered by renewable energy, such as wind and hydro and solar power, thereby eliminating the pollution caused by fossil fuel like coal and oil. A second reason why electric cars are better is because they are less expensive to drive with. What i mean by this is that before when you had a normal car you had to depend on gas but now with electric cars you no longer have to worry about the gas. This means that you no longer have to worry about the rising prices of the gas. In 2011 alone, the US imported oil worth $300 billion and 70% of the oil was used for the transportation industry. In 2012 a typical American family spend a whopping amount of $2,912 0n gas, but if you switch to an electric car you will only spend a fraction of the money on electricity because it can be generated locally. A third reason why we should switch to electric cars is because instead of investing our money in the gas industry we can help our local economy to produce clean energy. We would save a lot of money every year because we would no longer have to pay for gas
Electric Cars use the energy stored in a battery (or series of batteries) for vehicle propulsion. Electric motors provide a clean and safe alternative to the internal combustion engine. There are many pros and cons about electric cars. The electric vehicle is known to have faster acceleration. They produce no exhaust.
The topic of the future has been such a popular subject all of the twentieth century, from the idea of flying cars to robots preforming surgeries. One thing that has taken the media by storm is the takeover of electric cars, and if they really are better than the classic gas guzzler. Electric cars are better than gas powered vehicles because of the miles per gallon difference, maintenance cost and environmental effects. Everyone hates when gas prices sky rocket especially during the holiday season when everyone is on the roads commuting from house to house, town to town or even state to state. On average the typical person tends to spend around $2000 on gas alone.
(Gilpin, 2014) According to Tesla, the efficiency of electric cars is three times that of the traditional gas engine as most energy is lost through the heating process.(Gilpin, 2014) There are two types of electric vehicles in production today, BEV’s and PHEV’s. BEV’s or Battery electric vehicles run solely on energy stored in a battery that is recharged at stations. These cars have an operating range of 60+ miles and take about 6-8 hours to recharge at a station.(Gilpin, 2014) Those who need to travel more than 60 miles in a day could face problems with this. Those that may need to travel much farther in a day would be wise to choose the PHEV’s or the plug-in hybrid electric vehicle. These vehicles run on both electricity and gasoline. They can run on electricity alone for up to 40 miles until it makes the switch to gasoline acting like a hybrid. This means that after they switch to their hybrid mode, they will use both electric and gasoline powered until they are charged again.(Gilpin, 2014) While in hybrid mode the PHEV’s can run up to 400+ miles before needing a recharge. (Gilpin, 2014) The relevance of electric cars is spiking. Especially in bigger cities that have air quality issues, the demand for transportation with limited emissions will be a huge
The substantial increase in the demand for EV’s came just in time as we are slowly but surely running out of oil. Some estimate that by the year 2040, 35 percent of all vehicles will be electric (Sullins, 2017). An article from the U.S. Department of Energy stated that “Electric vehicles hold a lot of potential for helping the U.S. create a more sustainable future. If the U.S. transitioned all the light-duty vehicles to hybrids or plug-in electric vehicles, we could reduce our dependence on foreign oil by 30-60 percent, while lowering the carbon pollution from the transportation sector by as much as 20 percent (energy.gov, 2014). It’s obvious that gas-powered vehicles have harmed our planet with their emissions. Although EV’s cannot reverse that damage that has been done, they can eliminate, or at least slow down, the inevitable demise that our planet is headed towards. Along with the beneficial environmental factors that correspond with electric cars, there are also beneficial financial factors. The average American spends about $2,000 on gas annually. In the future, charging stations will charge roughly $12.00 for a full charge, which is about 300 miles. This means that the average American will save about $1,400 per year on these specific car
Throughout history, there have been different perspective on what is the Pacific Rim. One of these brilliant perspective was presented by Gary Okihiro. In Okihiro’s article, The Pineapple Culture, he argued that the Pacific Rim was this tropical and temperate area which focused heavily on westward expansion. Okihiro emphasized on American Imperialism by categorizing each passage with topics such as tropical fruit, tropical diseases, yellow peril, white man’s burden, and pineapple diaspora. These categories brought significant meaning to how one may perceive the Pacific Rim.
The future American commuter will undoubtedly have to transition from the use of fossil fuels to new alternatives due to the diminishing availability of the nation’s oil resources. How will America respond to this upcoming issue? It is difficult to predict which alternative fuel source America will ultimately choose, but with the premier of Nissan’s electric powered Leaf and other companies; such as Tesla Motors and Chevy, with their electric cars ready for market, the electric car may be winning the race to become the new standard for the gasoline alternative. Electric cars resolve long standing environmental issues, but it will need to maneuver around many roadblocks to become a marketable consideration for the general public. The cost of electric cars, currently on the market, makes them an impractical purchase for the average consumer. If cost is not the growing concern in today’s economy which prevents the consumer from considering this option; they may deny the technological advance due to battery storage capabilities and the inadequate infrastructure in place to refuel and provide for them.
Currently electric vehicles are slowing becoming popular with some already on show room floors. Furthermore, there are many enthusiasts and groups that have really been pushing their use. Tough these cars do not share the same performance qualities of some gas-powered cars; the current technology has been rapidly catching up. Hybrid vehicles have offered in some ways the best of both worlds. The cars are environmentally friendly yet offer the power and distance capabilities of other cars on the market. Furthermore, there have been many ways of supplying electricity to the cars including home-rechargeable batteries and hydrogen power. Electric vehicles are a definite possibility for the future because they have the lowest emissions while driving.
Gas prices raise and lower in very fast rates every month. According to a 2012 report by The Huffington Post, the average human will spend two thousand dollars to fill up their tank every year. Electric cars will turn that statistic into zero dollars a year for certain people that have made the switch. According to Mary Kathryn Campbell, “The average cost of electricity in the US is 12 cents per kWh. Therefore, the average person driving an average EV 15,000 miles per year pay about $540.00 per year to charge it.” (Plug in America, Campbell). Electric cars will save the average person around one thousand four hundred and sixty dollars a year. Although switching to an electric car is very good for your pocket, you will still have to spend a lot of money on the maintenance and electricity the car needs. Drivers will have to buy things like home charging stations, which range from five thousand to one thousand dollars. It is also a challenge to calculate how much money is spent on electricity a year. As Brad Berman, of PlugInCars.com states, the actual cost for a kWh varies widely across the U.S., and can swing wildly even within a location based on utility rate plans, season, tiers, time-of-use programs and home solar. Forecasting actual EV fuels costs is a tough challenge.” (Plugin Cars, Berman). Switching to electric cars will save you a lot of money on gas, but you will also have to worry about other things like maintenance and charging
Purchasing a car is one of the hugest or biggest accomplishments that a person can achieve on their own. However, what happens when that purchase turns out to also be the worst decision that was ever made? The purchase was a success and a goal was achieved, but the moment the key is turned and the engine is started the contribution to environmental harm begins. As the car is driven, the gasoline fumes that are released from the car contribute to the other many factors and pollutants that damage the environment. Not only is the purchase now a contributor to the depletion of clean air, but it could also play a part in the depletion of someone’s health. For example, asthma or bronchitis could develop in an adult or child as a direct result of breathing in noxious automotive fumes. Depending on where one lives, there could be strict regulations on air pollution. One must be accountable for any and all contributions made to the demise of what was once a healthy Earth. One must be accountable for his or her own carbon footprint. Some individuals have taken steps to reduce their carbon footprints and cause less harm to the environment by purchasing electric cars.
The chief disadvantage of EV's is that they usually can travel no more than 100 miles before their batteries must be charged (Harverdink, 1). While on the other side I only need to fill up the gas tank every 200 miles. Now, if you've ever been to Sitka, Alaska then of course you realize that from one end of the island to the next it is only about 14 miles, which is just the main road. There are all sorts of smaller roads that lead to more houses and stores. Being a teenager like myself, in a small town all that you can do is cruise around to kill some time. My boyfriend and I pretty much drive 100 miles in a day. Just from going back and forth and back and forth. Then we at least have one more day of doing that before we have to fill up the tank again. So for me, I think that it is better to have a gas car rather than electric.
Many vehicles in fleets operated by companies or government organizations are assigned to routes that could easily be handled by today’s electric vehicles. The driving distance for electric vehicles will become longer as advanced types of batteries, fuel cells, hybrid systems and other technologies continue to be developed. Costs for charging an electric vehicle will depend on the time of day the owner charges the vehicle, the utility rates, and the type of the electric vehicle. What’s almost certain is that people will pay substantially less than you pay to refuel a gasoline-powered car. The average monthly fuel cost for a typical electric vehicle driver is expected to be less than $15, compared to $50 for gasoline.
When you use gas-powered vehicles, not only are they hurting the earth but, they are also hurting your wallet. The average american spends around $2,000 per year on gasoline alone. Electric cars run on electricity; in most parts of the world electricity is ubiquitous and cheap. You’ll often hear people complaining about the price of gas. Imagine never having to drive to another gas station to fill up your tank.
Electric cars were recently introduced to the auto world. They are very fuel efficient while still having all the practicalities of a regular car. They are quiet and have zero emissions. They also are cheaper to maintain and cheaper to own then a gas powered car. Even though car enthusiasts dislike the idea of going fully electric, it is a very conscientious choice. Electric cars might seem like a useless form of transportation, but they offer features that help keep the Earth clean.
Electric cars are becoming increasingly more necessary, and have more advantages than disadvantages. Electric cars help to decrease the noise, pollution as they are much quieter. They do not emit any (or much less) carbon emission than petrol cars. Electric vehicles are the greenest mode of transport in the personal transportation industry. For each litre of fuel used in an engine produces more than 2.5kg of CO2. CO2 will be produced by an electric car but still a very little amount. It is also possible to use renewable power or a green energy supplier in the electric car. Thus it would lead to less polluted and safe working environment for all of us. However, safety is a big concern with using vehicles. The fluids in the batteries actually take impact better than a fully made gas car because it is not that flammable. Petrol cars and diesel cars are more flammable than electric cars so they are greater of taking impact in the event of an accident. I think that this is a very good reason because fewer people would get injured or hurt. This would save money because electricity is cheaper than gas and electric cars are easy to operate. Also is very ECO –friendly which mean that it is cheaper to run and have to pay very little road tax. In a pure electric vehicle there’s nothing combustible and have far fewer moving parts than you would find in a petrol or diesel car.
There are many reasons why electric cars are the best solution, and they could be an important tool for our future. One reason is that electric cars produce fewer greenhouse gases than a normal car and give us cleaner air. In big cities the principal issue is the smoke produced by cars that use fossil fuels; but how are fossil fuels related with air pollution? Easy, emissions are produced when fossil fuels are extracted from the
