Today the problem of drug abuse is the most serious and severe problem not only in America but throughout the world. The current problem is very acute in America. There are over 200,000,000 registered drug addicted people, and among them the amount of children is 1000,000. Over 50 thousand drug addicted kids are registered in America. Drug addiction is considered a disease, and it is in fact spreads like a virus among children. The hazard from drugs is too great to ignore. Although the problem of drugs may seem impossible to avoid, we still can prevent this problem throughout society by taking some powerful and real actions. People are supposed to help youth drug abusers kick the habit and stop it as soon as possible in order to guarantee the healthy growth of youth and social strength. Today more and more teenagers in America are victims of drug abuse and government should take urgent actions to improve this situation by providing drug education program, making actual laws to stop drug dealers, and creating more medical centers. According to the poll conducted among schoolchildren in 2006, 45 percent of junior pupils have used drugs once in their life, 5-8 percent of schoolchildren regularly use drugs. Also most teenagers use “light” drugs like marijuana. The first reason of the drug abuse among teenagers might be changes in family circumstance. It can include parents’ lack of supervision. As (Barber1996) states, lack of family supervision over the child can be a cause of his/her drug abuse, meaning that if parents do not have proper correction, the child can be open to drug practice. Also, (Cassidy 1999) states that if parents give children an opportunity to do whatever they want especially in such critical teen age, it will... ... middle of paper ... ...ogical treatments to help in a It seems that all people, despite their population and races, are visible to drugs addiction. The understanding of the penalties of drug abuse may help deal with the drug problem itself. Even though creating drug education program and making law enforcement organs stricter are efficient answers to the problem of the drug addiction among teens, but negative sides are subject. Although no treatment is guaranteed, rehabilitation centers have all the elements needed for success for a person who is truly motivated to recover. The benefits offered by a professional drug rehabilitation center make it a worthwhile treatment option. Therefore, I suppose that our government should immediately create more effective medical centers because it is the best solution to protect our society from drug addictions of teens despite of the weaknesses.
Almost everybody on Long Island, and probably all around the world, has been prescribed a drug by a doctor before— whether it was to knock out a nasty virus, or relieve pain post injury or surgery. However, what many people don’t realize is that these drugs can have highly addictive qualities, and more and more people are becoming hooked, specifically teenagers. But when does harmlessly taking a prescription drug to alleviate pain take the turn into the downward spiral of abuse? The answer to that question would be when the user begins taking the drug for the “high” or good feelings brought along with it—certainly not what it was prescribed for (1). The amount of teens that abuse prescription medications has been rapidly increasing in recent
The world we live in has been fighting the drug problem for so long, it seems as if it will never end. The government spends money fighting it and people still continue to buy and sell drugs. Drugs are very widespread and have social impact on our society. There are many debates on whether to legalize certain drugs and how it will affect our society. This has many effects on the political and legal systems regarding laws and money. Drug use is closely related to crimes and and so the prevention of legalizing drugs is the goal. Popular drugs such as cocaine, heroine, and marijuana produce different effects on the person using it and can be addicting and cause drug abuse or addiction. The affects and use of drugs is a controversial subject and so that is why is it essential to conduct research and studies on this subject. Some of the research is based on different social groups which would be studied on there behavior and drug use and how to prevent drug use if it has not occurred yet. The studies explore the effects the drugs have and the methods to prevent the certain groups from drug use or help them to stop using the addictive drugs. People become addicted to certain drugs or just use them for recreational use. Many different groups can choose to use drugs not just children and adolescents. Anyone can become addicted to drugs, they are a problem in this world economically and socially. The concerning factor is that illegal drugs and prescription drugs are going to continue to be a problem and there needs to be preventative programs and education to the public on the harmful effects of them. The prescription drugs are seen on tv, magazines, radio and are advertised, drug companies advertise to the consumer promoting the drug and so people may be more inclined to use them and then children and adolescents are able to get the drug more
The use of drugs and mind-alternating substances has been a part of society for decades. The ‘high’ that people attain from the use of such substances is very attractive and exciting however, the effects of this use are minimized. Particularly for youth, a group of individuals who are seeking independence and experimentation, drug use represents the balance between taking risks and taking responsibility for one’s actions. However, the developmental processes of adolescents are known to not encompass the maturity required to fully think through such decisions. As such, the use of a ‘smaller-scale’ drug like marijuana is even more minimized. The purpose of this paper is to discuss what the risks of using marijuana are for youths, why they are the most affected, how this problem has progressed over the last three decades, and what preventative measures and treatment options are in place. It will also discuss what schools, parents, and government agencies could be doing to help improve the issue, and the impact that this issue is having on society.
Suffering from an addiction is punishment enough, sending drug addicts to jail is not the solution. Addicts are suffering already by not having a place to stay. Most of the time addicts do not remember where their family is located at and they need help to get better. That is why I am saying that addicts should go to rehab instead of prison.
In America, marijuana is the most used drug after alcohol and tobacco. Marijuana is used by millions of Americans, despite the harsh laws illegalizing the drug. Some states, such as Washington and Colorado have legalized marijuana for recreational use. Efforts to legalize the drug in other states have been unsuccessful such as Proposition 19 in California, which failed in 2010 despite uptight campaigns. Billions of dollars are spent at the state, local, and federal level to fight the use of marijuana. Millions are arrested for marijuana offenses and sentenced for extended periods. Marijuana has negative effects on the human health and high potential for addiction. Legalizing marijuana will eliminate the black market, which is responsible for the increase in violence, crime, and corruption. Resources used for mass incarceration in the war on drug can be redirected to rehabilitation to decrease drug abuse and addiction.
