You know all those commercials for the Samsung Galaxy that say the next big thing is here? Well, they were lying, driverless cars are the next big thing. Cars have been continuously evolving from the first car built in 1886 by Karl Benz. This invention changed the way humans lived, by allowing people to travel farther. This spread out civilizations because people could live miles away from cities, but still be able to have a job there, by traveling each day. This made more space for living, because instead of everyone living in the city, people moved to the suburbs. Ever since the first car, we have been developing and building cars that increase their range and speeds they can do it at. All those countless hours are put to waste if more people are dying from crashes than terrorist attacks. Currently, the death ratio of terrorist attacks to car accidents is 19,000 to 1. Driverless cars will save more lives NSA by preventing 1.2 million deaths annually. For years, the main goal for car manufacturers has been safety. Driverless cars will be able to make transportation much safer. Google was the first company to begin developing driverless cars and they are very close to having them available. The testing of driverless cars has been going on for 7 years and Google’s fleet of driverless cars has driven over one million miles without any accidents caused by the car. This is a major advance in the prevention of accidents. Right now there are 1.3 million deaths worldwide from accidents a year, and an additional 20-50 million injuries a year. Of these accidents, 1.2 million are caused by human error; that's 90%! That means that if everyone had a driverless car, the number of deaths from driving would be less than 100 thousand per
Have you ever feared that your loved one or even someone very close to you will be involved in a fatal car accident every time they left the house? Drunk driving is a factor in nearly one-third of all fatal accidents. Even if you aren’t the one driving, you are still at risk any moment to get involved in an accident that could’ve been prevented. By legalizing fully self-driving cars, we won’t have to fear the pain of losing a loved one. We could have a quick fix to all of this madness easily. The number of traffic accidents are soaring at 1.3 million deaths a year. Drunk Driving is still one of the number one causes of vehicle deaths; therefore, the government should allow self-driving cars to become legal to combat the issue. If we don’t act now to combat this issue we will have to deal with the consequences it will bring.
Can we have driverless cars? I don’t agree that driverless cars should be even aloud on the road. Driverless cars are basically cars that dont need you to drive manually, it drives for you.

Driverless cars are becoming a very big subject in the U.S. Carmakers such as Volkswagen and General Motors are going to be selling driverless cars in no more than three to four years. Many states have passed the law for driverless cars, and many more states are considering( Tribune News Service). Harsh weather conditions make it difficult and dangerous for people to drive, however, the car’s ability to drive through inclement weather “frees the user’s time, creates opportunities for individuals with less mobility, and increases overall road safety” (Bose 1326). With all the technology and software in the car, it can “improve road traffic system[s] and reduces road accidents” (Kumar). One of the purposes for creating the driverless car was to help “make lives easier for senior citizens, people with disabilities, people who are ill, or people who are under influence of alcohol” (Kumar). It can be frightening to know that that we share share our roads with drivers that could potentially endanger our lives as well as other people’s lives. Self-driving cars are the wave of the future. There is much debate regarding the impact a self-driving car will have on our society and economy. Some experts believe fully autonomous vehicles will be on the road in the next 5-10 years (Anderson). This means a vehicle will be able to drive on the road without a driver or any passengers. Like any groundbreaking technology, there is a fear of the unforeseen problems. Therefore, there will need to be extensive testing before anyone can feel safe with a vehicle of this style on the road. Current drivers have never followed the rule of the road, which have made the road more prone to any accident.
