Water is something my family and I use everyday. Not only do we use water for drinking, but for taking a shower, brushing my teeth, doing the dishes, washing my clothes, etc. Since water is used so often throughout the day, it ends up being a resource that is easy to take for granted. Also, it is also a resource that is easy to waste without really thinking about it.
Something that I do everyday that uses up a lot of water is take a shower. Every four minutes in the shower can use up to 20-40 gallons of water. That’s as much as 37-75 times more than the amount of water that is often recommended to drink per day (2 liters), which is much more than what is necessary for survival. That’s incredible to think about, since there are many poor people in countries around the world that have a very hard time gaining access to clean drinking water. Four …show more content…

I often take 15-20 minutes; possibly increasing my water usage up to 200 gallons per day just from showering alone. There are a few things that I could change in order to use up less water. First, is just taking a shorter time in the shower. This is somewhat difficult to do, since it is easy to lose track of time while showering. I think that having some sort of timer or clock in the bathroom while showering may help to reduce my shower time. It would be easy to do, and implementing that idea would not only save water, but time in my day as well to do other things. Another solution, recommended by EarthEasy, would be to turn off the shower water when applying soap, shampoo, etc. and turn it back on when you’re ready to rinse. This does seem like a reasonable way to save water and I would be willing to try it to see if I could make it a habit. However, I could imagine that doing this would be uncomfortable for some people and maybe too much effort. A third solution would be to shower less often. This would probably be the
