To be able to visually persuade I had to critically think about the different techniques I should use. Also, I had to think about minute details like the fonts I used, pictures I used, and even the different color backgrounds I used. The first thing I decided about my project was what I wanted the color of the backgrounds to be. I did not pick specific colors, but I knew that all the slides should either have bright or soothing colors that most people would have a positive emotion from. I chose to have any slide that discussed STEM programs to be darker grey or black, because it is overall gloomy and would produce a negative emotion reaction. By using happy colors for performing art programs and sad colors for STEM programs it subtly hints …show more content…
In my first slide I color corrected both the performing arts logo and STEM logo and placed them next to each other to show how different and unique they both are. Just like I chose to do to the color of the backgrounds, the performing arts logo was bright and eye catching, while the STEM logo was dark and uninviting. The next slide I chose a picture that had music notes that were similar to the background and a graph that helped further explain my subpoint. Both pictures were tilted because it helped one’s eye focus on different things every time one looked at it. I then picked sports pictures that were taken from creative and different perspectives, because it was a very original way to take pictures. This also supports my thesis, because it shows how when people have schooling in different art areas like photography they can make really creative things. Then I used pictures that were or children to help support the fact that when children are introduced early to performing art programs the benefits are more significant. Next, every picture I used in sides about STEM programs I made them slightly transparent and darker to add to the subtle hint that they are dull and uninteresting. Finally, the very last slides has pictures laid over top of each other to show all the different works of art, which are iconic like the mona lisa and album covers, were all made by artists in the performing arts
Christopher McCandless’ long, fascinating, but an ultimately fatal journey into the wilderness of Alaska is depicted in the biography, Into the Wild, written by Jon Krakauer. Late in the of summer of 1990, a very young Christopher McCandless left his ordinary world in Annandale, Virginia to pursue a solitary life in the untamed wilds of Alaska. Many will insinuate that Christopher McCandless’ actions were childish and idiotic, but a stronger argument would be that his unconventional thinking and desire to live life on his own terms allowed him to reach self-actualization.
There are at least 6 to 8 complaints of every 100 officers made each year. At least 30 percent of the complaints are for excessive use of force and that doesn 't include all the undocumented complaints civilians make that are failed to be reported. In the past year, police officers have killed more than 776 people. This information has only recently been brought to light. For once the media is not exaggerating on the crimes police are committing; this is happening right here, right now in our own country. What can people do to stop these unlawful police officers from hurting innocent civilians? Having the officers wear body cameras can be a start. Even though there is not enough research to prove their effectiveness, body cameras should be
Persuasion is an art that we meet in all spheres of life; academia, social, political, etc. It has positive and negative outcomes. When one communicates, it is of extreme importance that an awareness of the Principles of Persuasion is utmost in their preparation if they are to make a lasting impression. This paper will attempt to define and analyze the six principles and show them in application.
When using slides, color contrast is another excellent way for a speaker to catch the audience’s attention! The C.R.A.P. design principles also can use shapes and symbols to convey a message. Visual elements using the four basic design principles are probably the most important pieces of information that should be carried through the presentation. Using visual elements, such as infographics, can contribute to how information can be remembered or memorized easiest by the audience. Images or infographics are great tools when promoting attention and retaining information. Images that are easy to comprehend, involve forming visual memories. They reinforce the process of memory recall and visual elements (Keogh,
Pets aren 't just animals, they are the creatures we selected to come into our lives to bring us happiness. Silas House states that if we stop as see what is in front of us we would be happier (House). He also states that if people were more like dogs we wouldn’t have a lot of the issues we have in the world (House). I believe that we have three faces: The face you show your family, the face you show the outside world, and the real you face. The face you show your family is the face that you want to portray yourself as, ‘the good one’, ‘the bad one’, ‘the smart one’ they know you and see you but you don’t tell them everything. The face you show the world is what’s known as the ‘fake face’ the face you put up to make people thing your
When your life is lacking direction, it is frustrating. I remember talking to a friend back when I was in college, and she literally did not know what she wanted to do with her day, never mind her life. For her, she knew what she liked to do and what she was passionate about, but she couldn 't make up her mind on what she really wanted to do, so it became overwhelming and she just gave up. That seems to be a common thread nowadays when we can pretty much take a chance on anything we want to do! And, it 's very frustrating to have all these different dreams but not be able to choose which direction to go.
Instead of teaching us how to do projects and essays, how to use the quadratic formula, how to understand the concept of war, teach us instead the art of persuasion. Teach us the ways of entertaining an audience, the dilemmas that the world faces. Teach us that there are an enormous amount of issues in the world and they come with an abundant amount of solutions. To learn how to engage an audience is to learn how to teach one.
The youth of the nation are both the backbone and living representation of what the future will hold. A teacher once told me, that the reason why she teaches is because the knowledge she gives us will greatly affect the world and she hopes it is for a positive effect. Education is essential for a nation to survive and thrive. What that education consists of is determined by what society views as important for the future. Therefore, why is it that the government is more concerned about funding and the other nation 's views than on the young 's people is education. Terrell Bell said the reason for A Nation at Risk, was to convince the Regan administration that the Department of Education is necessary. A Nation at Risk was a masterpiece of propaganda
Overcoming adversity is imperative. In fact, you can 't have the happiness and success you want unless you have adversity in your life and overcome it. It is essential for progressing into who you want to be. It shows you what you are made of. It teaches you more about yourself, how to approach what you want, and how to maintain the success that you have. Without it, you wouldn 't know how far you could go or how capable you are because you wouldn 't have anything to push you or compare to.
Every fall high school seniors around the globe are in a state of panic. Of course you are no stranger to this process, you have dealt with this stress firsthand. What process is being described you may ask? The process of applying to college. Each year seniors scramble to submit applications, transcripts, and letters of recommendations to the schools of their choice. These documents are essential for nearly all students who want to advance to an institution of higher learning, but for many the paper trail does not end there. Seniors interested in a career in art, well specifically in visual art, need one more thing to obtain that sparkling acceptance letter. That missing link is a portfolio.
I have also learned about different types of audiences and speeches including persuasive, informative, entertaining and delivering special occasion speeches. It came to my attention that whenever I was making these presentations or speeches, I needed to do so with confidence, consistence and practice before the actual presentation and completely eliminate the element of panic. It was also clear that capturing the attention of the audience and engaging them in the whole process, it was necessary to have a very strong introduction and also try and use visuals to deliver the message. It was therefore vital to respect each person’s diversity and cultural values (Lucas, 2011).
Parents across America are working longer hours and trying to provide a better and surge future for their children, but Americans are unhappy with the K-12 education system, which we are told is the key for success. The United States has spent more on education any other develop country in the world, and education is ranked 31st and 23rd in Science and it seem that students are falling behind year after year. Yet, we are adding programs to our education system that suggested it would help our kids to more proficient in the classroom. Therefore, is this new approach on education really helping students? It seems that the Common Core debate is not just being fought in the classroom, but also in the court. The issue of a demising education structure

I should receive a passing grade in this class because I can write now. Not just an exaggeration, but after another semester of English I finally feel confident that can write. Three of the reasons behind my confidence is I learned, I experienced and best of all I repeated. These three values helped prepare me for what is in store in English 1302 and here is why.
From birth, education is what allows for our development. Newborns are already learning after exiting the womb as they start familiarizing themselves with their new environment. Theoretically, education is supposed to be the tool that allows for self-improvement. The modern education system reassures us that one’s background does not define their future. In America, education is one as the factor that gives all its citizens equal opportunity. The idea of anyone being able to create their own path to success regardless of their origin is what has attracted people from overseas and can be why America is commonly known as “the land of immigrants”. Whether it is education in a classroom or from personal experiences, it is what allows us to become knowledgeable of the world we live and people we interact with. Education is supposed to give people the opportunity to better ones self and obtain the skills and the knowledge deemed worthy in obtaining upward mobility. Education reformist Horace Mann once stated: “education, then, beyond all other devices of human origin, is the great equalizer of the conditions, -- the balance-wheel of the social machinery.” -------(distinguish education and schooling- somehow) However, has education system only been set in place to meet the needs of industrialism? In this day in age, people students are attending schools in order to someday be employed in order to live a comfortable life. Public schools are teaching students in a manner where creativity and critical thinking are being denounced. Instead, the main goal is producing high standardized test scores. Students are being taught to equate the notion of becoming successful as a product of schooling (Gatto, 150).
