Don’t take our word for it - see why 10 million students trust us with their essay needs.
When I was teaching middle school, I heard some of my students calling one of my GLBTQ students a “fagot” and “queer” among other derogatory labels several times. However, when I heard those words, I intervened promptly. I told those students that type of language was not tolerated in my classroom and in our school and dealt with those students accordingly. I still hear these derogatory words from some people with whom I relate in my adult life. I have heard from an acquaintance saying, “oh, that’s so gay” to refer to something that is not perceived as stereotypically masculine or referring to something perceived by the individual as being stupid. The last time that happened I actually brought to the person’s attention that type of language is not appropriate and is offensive to the GLBTQ youth and adults and they deserve to be respected. In my opinion, you should challenge people that use derogatory language towards the LGBTQ persons no matter what setting we are in. The literature has also indicated that, on many occasions, school personal such as teaching staff and school admini...
What makes a homophobic slur is the negative history behind it and what they mean present day. We will work our way down the list but let’s start with the number one homophobic slur in my book. Faggot. This word has a lot of negativity and strong history behind it. The word faggot used to mean a pile or bundle of sticks to the British back in the Feudalism era. The word fag/faggot may have also been used to describe types of hazing that would be done to boys in British boarding schools but none the less, this word has a horrible past behind it. But, as time went on and more gay and LGBT people started to become more comfortable with themselves and came out to people they knew and came out to the world, that’s when the word was put to use as a slur. The term fag and or faggot was used back then to mostly belittle and demean gay men but it was also

--------------Hook-------------The problem is that cyberbullying is an act that must be stopped, but putting limits on students ' online speech is unnecessary. If you are not familiar with the word Cyberbullying, it is a is when an individual is tormented, threatened, harassed, humiliated, embarrassed or otherwise targeted by another individual using the Internet, interactive and digital technologies. But yet again I bring the point that schools should not limit the amount of students online speech. Schools must protect students’ First Amendment rights but also maintain the learning environment and safety at school. Three main reasons why school should not limit students online speech are there is not a large percent affected, it does not cause
I always remember what my grandmother said to me, “Be careful what you say, what words you use because they can destroy or give hope. Once they are said never could be deleted it from people’s hearts.” That day I learned that words are powerful. According to the article “Free Speech: Westboro Church Supreme Court Case First Amendment” in Christian Science Monitor, author Warren Richey discusses about The First Amendment to define what is offensive and it shows historical facts where the Supreme Court is using the First Amendment to resolve the cases about offensive speech. Also, the author describes people in favor and against of offensive speech. The author concluded that offensive speech should not be banned because free speech is the free
Despite there being many reasons as to why people discriminate homosexuals, the most popular ones are due to their religion or cultural norm. They include acts of verbal and physical abuse towards individuals who are homosexual. For those who are homosexuals, they are verbally abused by name calling such as fag, homo or sissy more than two dozen a day. There was a survey conducted by Gay, Lesbian and Straight Education Network and found that 86 percent of LGBT teens are being harassed at school in 2007. In 2013, 82 percent of teens had problems from previous year with bullying about sexual orientation. 64 percent felt unsafe at school and 32 percent did no go to school because of feeling unsafe. Even as an adult homosexual are attacked verbally.
Race relations are always a scary or uncomfortable topic for people to discuss amongst groups of different ethnicities and racial identities. It is a long standing tradition in the United States to walk a fine line and use politically correct terms in the above mentioned setting but to feel perfectly comfortable to speak freely when in a setting surrounded by likeminded people who share similar political affiliations and race. This is the main reason discussions surrounding the idea of race are too often avoided in today’s school systems and in society in general. If we are to encourage our students and children to be free thinking future citizens of our global society, we must first become one ourselves. The only way to accomplish this
Racism is one of the major issues in the world today. Many people are not aware of racism still existing in schools. It is obvious that racism is bad as it was many decades ago but it sure has not gone away. Racism very much exists and it is about time that people need to start thinking about solutions to this matter. Many people believe that it depends on if a person was brought into the world as a racist or not but that is not the case at all. In fact, an individual cannot be born a racist but only learn to become one as they grow from child to adulthood.
As a white child, the word nigger never effected me in a big way, not until I got older and started having black friends, but also white friends who didn’t so much agree with my decision, hearing the “N” word used in a term as hate toward my friends affected me in ways I never understood, I can definitely say that it changed the way I thought of the the “N” word, which can be harmful to one, and meaningless to another, each person takes this word differently, but I don’t believe that it should be banned, and I don’t see why anyone would want to ban a book from a time period when white people and black people did not like each other, and when black people were slaves, considering the book is all about a white boy and black man becoming friends
Why do people bully? Some people bully because they are afraid. When people are afraid of something or someone, they decide to bully. People choose to bully, because they think it make them cool. They think if they bully people, others would want to be like them. They believe it would help them fit in with the people around. They think it would help them be like someone who everyone else look up too. They want their friends to see how bad they are or how bad they try to be. Bullies are not as bad as most people think they are. Some people bully only on small people. You don’t see to many bullies bullying on each other. Even bullies are afraid of each other. The bully think since they are bigger than another person, they have more power. Some people even bully others because they may be getting bullied somewhere else. They may come to school and bully someone else to get their mind off of what some else are doing to them.
Have you ever been discriminated because of the race you are? Are you considered suspicious to the cops because of your race? Many people are oblivious to the fact that everyday a black person is being discriminated because of racist policemen. In general, today 's society treats blacks poorly and assumes that they are violent and always up to no good. It is not fair to them for not getting the same advantage in education as us because they don 't look like us. You can 't judge a person’s character by their race. Racial profiling is considered unconstitutional and has a huge impact on how white people interpret blacks actions. We should all be brought up equal and not stereotyped of the worst. If anything, whites should be supervised too because
Racism, where could I start? Racism according to the dictionaries is the belief that each race has characteristics or abilities specific of that race, distinctly as to differentiate it as inferior or superior to another race or races. In reality racism is so much deeper than that.
Truly this is exactly why there is so much hate in this world. Every single person on this earth is "damaged" and every single damaged person fails to realize that they are not alone. This world consists of large masses of bodies lashing out at everyone around them. Many lashing out of fear that their trauma will repeat itself if they don 't hold up this fierce barrier between them and the rest of the world. This tends to create these large balls of negative energy fueled by anger, pain, sadness, fear, jealousy, and ultimately... hate. Eventually that energy will come crashing down. I 've said for several years now that we will be the one 's to end our entire world. We will, at some point, be the reason that the human
Bullying against teens is still happening even though there are various awareness programs to try to prevent it. I want to create awareness of bullying against teens of all religions, race, and sexual orientation. Even with the various attention to bullying, the problem still persists despite the school providing awareness, students are still afraid to say anything. Societal patterns today make bullying a difficult issue to eliminate. Starting in 2007, a total of 35 states made laws to go against bullying at school. These laws consisted of a clear definition of bullying, and how schools will be required to enforce uniform standards of conduct. The reason bullying comes as such an issue to me is because I actually know friends that have been suicidal and have caused themselves harm due to being bullied every day, in school and at home.
What is bullying? Bullying is the act of aggression and bad behaviour that involves emotionally and physically harming other individuals. Nowadays, it has become a serious matter and growing concern all around the world. This is because bullying in school has become more common. This leads to various drastic consequences especially affecting students critically because bullying can ruin their life.
Bullying has become a serious problem in public schools systems. Being a victim of bullying is a daily struggle for some students. The issue continues to grow, but the question is how to stop bullying from occurring. Many ways have been attempted to stop bullying, but some are more effective than others. Having the students get involved seems to have the most positive effect on the bullying issue in public school systems.
