Have you ever been cyberbullied or humiliated over the internet? The internet was built to expand the knowledge of life everywhere, for communication, and much more. There are also cons; the internet is not perfect, that’s pretty clear, but as humans we all should have seen this coming. Cyber bullying is a growing problem, It destroys families, lives, the way people see things, and how they act. Monica Lewinsky was a victim of this harmful treatment and I have to agree with her that no one should have to go through this. Cyber bullying is leading to suicidal ideations more significantly than offline bullying. Mostly teens and young adults are so abused and ashamed by shaming and humiliation that some can 't imagine living the next day, and some unfortunately don 't. A helpline called ChildLine helps teens with certain issues recorded from the year of 2012 to 2013 a 87 percent increase in calls and emails related to cyberbullying and bullying. Bullying has occurred for many years and via the internet is a new form of bullying, giving higher chances for bullying to occur more often due to technology.
In her article “How the Internet Has Changed Bullying”, Maria Konnikova explained how bullying has reached technology, and in the workplaces of many adults. The Internet has made it harder to escape from bullying, and easier for bullies to escape from confronting their victims. Furthermore, the author stresses that cyberbullying not only targets high schoolers, but it’s affecting the lives of college students as well (Konnikova 1). Cyberbullying takes place in the Internet world where is easier for a bully to gossip and humiliate multiple of victims in a faster pace. The studies have shown that cyberbullying is making a greater impact in the victims’ and the bullies’ lives more than the traditional bullying and many people are not aware of it; therefore the schools, witnesses, and employers should work together to fight against cyberbullying and provide help to the victims and bullies.
Cyber bullying affects people from any’ age, including children, teens, and adults who all feel very stressed and alone when being bullied online. Such as bullying can cause a long term damage to self-esteem. For example, Cyberbullying can make you feel totally overwhelmed which can result in feeling embarrassed as they are going through such a devastating time, and not knowing what support is available for them. In the United States of America, practically everybody can agree on the importance of the youth and their education. The youth and children of today are the future leaders of tomorrow. Although education, undoubtedly, is beneficial to America’s youth, there are some experiences, such as bullying, that negatively affect and stick with these youth for the rest of their lives. Certain children find an outlet for their frustrations through bullying others. In the past, these actions could be better controlled because they were limited to face-to-face interactions. However, due to the recent booms in technology over recent years, cell phones, social media sites, group chats, and other forms of technology have allowed bullying to expand into the Internet. This new form of abuse is known as cyber- bullying. According to the Online Merriam-Webster Dictionary, cyber-bullying is, “the use of electronic communication to bully a person, typically by sending messages of an intimidating or threatening nature.” This can be done through cell phones, computers, and tablets. Cyber-bullying may seem like nothing since there's no physical contact, but in reality it can hurt even more than the actual thing. The victims of cyber-bullying are real people with real feelings; and the bullying has led some to depression, and further more driven them to suicide. Cyber-bullying is a serious issue that negatively affects the youth today.
Bullying has greatly evolved over the years. We have gone from face to face bullying to a new form called cyber bullying. Many believe cyber bullying to be far worse than its traditional partner because it can leave a tremendous psychological impact on the person being bullied. There are a lot more people who report being bullied now that cyber bullying has become evolved. After a survey of 264 kids from across 3 different schools was conducted, it came to show that about half of them had been bullied and about a quarter of them cyber bullied. Around half of the kids say they know someone who has been or is being cyber bullied. Most cyber bullies attack there victims multiple times and for some reason, the victims never report it to the adults. It was found that males were more likely to be cyber bullies compared to females and that the females were more likely to report to an adult if they had been being bullied by someone (“Cyberbullying In Schools”). It has become much easier for bullies to cyberbully people because of all the advancement in technology. With the rapid growth of computers and other technology, cyber bullying was bound to outbreak. Bullies can give crippling blows to someone’s psychiatric state of mind just by using the internet, and the effects can be everlasting. It is easy for more than one person to bully a single target when on the internet. Cell phones are also a big cause of pain for the victims as they cannot delete embarrassing pictures or messages off of the phones of others who have received them. ("Mr. Bullproof.”). Cyber-bully is the electronic posting of mean-spirited messages about a person (as a student) often done anonymously according to Merriam-Webster dictionary. While traditionally bullying and cyber-bullying are very comparable in forms of technique that also have many differences. Cyber-bullying gives the bully the benefit of hiding their identity behind a screen. This makes it easier to tear people down because they do not have to come in contact with anyone. All around the United States, the prevalence of cyberbullying ranges from 10-40% of people who get bullied through electronics. Furthermore, this is a problem caused by kids, teens, and adults who target one another online by repeating harmful threats and harassments. This conflict negatively impacts the victims’ life which is why anyone who cyberbullies should pay the consequences and be prosecuted.

For high school students bullying and harassment can make a time of learning and new social interactions a nightmare. The possibility of being physically or verbally bullied at school,, a place where student should feel safe, is a growing peril. Unfortunately, bullying is nothing new in the United States. As well as the problem of avoiding being a victim of bullying at school, students can not escape this harsh scrutiny because of the rise of social media networks. Teenagers are being harassed on social media at alarming rates and a majority of school can do nothing about it. To understand the role social media has in the battle to prevent harassment and cyberbullying, it is essential that people identify the roles schools and students play in these situations.
