CHILDHOOD OBESITY Obesity is a word used to describe a person who has a huge body mass or overweight in relation to his or her height and weight, it is an unhealthy body fat extra to the amount needed by the body. The body weight and height have a common connection and one thing can affect or depend on another. Not every person who has a huge body is an obese person. It is only when one is clinically measured or diagnozed using a clinical machine to determine body mass index (BMI). The ratio is obtained by dividing body weight of a person (in pounds) by the square of height (in feet). Scientists and doctors have agreed that if the BMI of a person ranges between 25 to 29.9 then an individual is described as an overweight. Body Obesity is a problem for both children (called childhood obesity) and old people. Its occurrence over the last ten year has increased greatly; it leads to many problems including medical complications, such as disease, reduced quality of life, and early death. Obesity amongst children is a burden to both parents and in terms of the budget to meet the cost of treating or combating obesity. Physical inactivity is one of the major contributors to childhood obesity. In general, children are more active than adults are. However, as they grow older, their levels of physical activity begin to decline. This is a big problem because poor activity habits formed in childhood can carry over into adulthood and spill onto their own children, perpetuating the cycle of obesity. Children who are obese eat poor food quality excessively but do not burn off enough calories to avoid the danger of a huge increase in their body mass.
