With the proper education I feel we all can make better decisions in our children’s lives as well as our very own. We need to be more vocal with spreading this message out so that everyone is aware of the dangers of childhood obesity. TV ads, radio ads, and different forms of advertisement would help bring this message to everyone and people of all different backgrounds. This was a tremendous strategy that worked out for the tobacco industry and helping reducing teen smoking. If the community can get together and work on education each other and their children this would be great. It can help everyone know what they are eating and exercising enough. We need to get the word out to help parents make sure their children are being active and they are providing them with enough fruits and vegetables in their diets. Parents should also eat right and to exercise with their families and children this will make a huge difference and impact in their children lives. Parents need to lead by example and teach their children a healthy lifestyle this is something the kids will grow up with and continue to do daily in their lives and into adulthood. This will also impact these kids when they are adults with their own families and start a path of teaching their families and kids and a new generation of healthy habits. Healthcare providers can do their best to notice signs of overweight children and start educating the parents before it becomes worse. Providers need to make sure they are catching these patients early and are providing the parents with the tools and information to help their children. We have to all do our part to make sure everyone has the resources and help to fight this epidemic. Awareness should help this problem and with everyone doing their part I believe we can see a reduction in the number of overweight children and adolescents in the United States. This is a great concern and with the correct efforts and support it’s something we
As a mother of three school aged children and majoring in health care management, I would definitely try my best to influence this area. I volunteer in my children’s classrooms and see the growing problem with childhood obesity. Whenever there is a school party there is an abundance of cookies, candy, juice, etc. and very rarely is there any fruit or vegetables. This growing trend of childhood obesity needs to stop. We need to reprogram ourselves and put a social value on healthy foods so that we can prevent obesity, diabetes, and heart disease. Healthy nutrition is the answer to these problems and as a society we need to effort and value into our children’s
CDC talks about the immediate health effects happening to children and adolescents. For those who are obese are at a risk for bone and joint problems, inability to breathe, social, and poor low self-esteem. Approximately, 5-17 year olds, 70% of obese youth is at a high risk of getting cardiovascular disease. Cardiovascular disease is high blood pressure and high cholesterol. Obese adolescents are more likely to carry a condition called pre-diabetes, which is a development of high blood glucose that becomes diabetes. The long-term health effects of obese children and adolescents are at more risk to obtain adult health problems. The conditions of adult health problems are much worse conditions that connect to heart disease, Type 2 diabetes, and several types of cancer, arthritis, and stroke. Those who struggle with being overweight or obesity combines the risk of having cancer with the internal organs like the breast, colon, esophagus, kidney, pancreas and many more.
Obesity in children across America has become an increasing public health concern. Obesity has been identified as an epidemic that is plaguing our children in the United States. In some countries around the world children are dying of starvation everyday. How can this happen when here in America the opposite is a major problem? This is not to say that in America there are no hungry or starving children. It has been proven that our children suffer from obesity, and “children who are overweight or obese as preschoolers are five times as likely as normal-weight children to be overweight or obese as adults” (“Hope”). Obesity not only can cause a child to become more prone to having health problems down the road, but it can also make them feel insecure about themselves. There needs to be action taken in schools as well as in homes to help prevent this growing epidemic.
Child obesity became a very serious issue that is taking on the health of the nation 's children. It is everyone responsibility to work on preventing and reducing childhood obesity, from the parents who are suppose to care about their children’s health, to the public health representatives, who should care about a future healthy nation, and everyone in between. Every part of society should create a set of lifestyle changes in order to save our kids from obesity. There are many aspects, which have to be changed or improved, including parent’s nutrition education, children’s physical activity and kid’s nutrition in a school and home, food industry and etc.
What is childhood obesity? Childhood obesity is a condition in which a child is significantly overweight for his or her age and height. In “What is childhood obesity,” the American Heart Association reports that obesity in children causes health problems (American Heart Association). A statistic is that today, about one in three American kids and teens are overweight or obese, which has tripled the rate since 1963 (American Heart Association). If the rate has increased over the past fifty-two years when will it decrease? It will never decrease if healthier lifestyles are not enforced. We need to improve childhood obesity by having classes to educate parents to keep their children healthy.
This day and age people are living longer with respect to various factors, for example, technology and evidence based practice which guide practices, in order to deliver safe and effective health care. However, many young adults are developing diseases that were once confined to adults. The prevalence of childhood obesity is rising and so is the steady incline of comorbidities in young adults. Education is perhaps one of the best options that can either control or prevent the rising rates of childhood obesity. The presentation was taught at a local recreation center where there are programs for people of all ages. My intended audience was adolescents, because they need to be educated about childhood obesity and health issues it may cause. This can prevent or control the obesity rates and in turn reduce cormorbidities that are associated with obesity.
The best way to begin a revolution in health in America is to start with the youth. The United States has the largest percentile of overweight children in the world. Approximately one-quarter of all four to five year olds and one-third of ten to eleven year olds are considered overweight. The obese children will more than likely become overweight parents. A child with an obese parent is ten percent more likely to raise obese children and thus the cycle continues (McBride, 2010). The more years that go on the higher the obesity rate climbs because the children are eating more and more and becoming less and less active.
A national epidemic is occurring, the war between food and people. In the United States, about “32% of children (from 2 to 19 years old) are obese” (Bernadac 1). As the years continue to go on the rate of obese children are increasing as well. In the past the problem did not have much consideration due to a low rate of affected children. Now families are suffering the long-term consequences of having an obese child. Some of those health effects are “Heart disease, type 2 diabetes, stroke, several types of cancer and osteoarthritis” (CDC 1). A problem with this type of drastic effects may have a solution; method prevention for the future generations and correct treatment for those who are already obese can lower the rate.
In order to impede the epidemic of childhood obesity, the actual causes of the problem need to be evaluated and dissected. Obesity in children is becoming a huge problem in American society. In the past three decades, the rate of overweight children has increased by 300%. This is an alarming rate that is only climbing higher. Every member in society should take steps to becoming healthier. This would help the present generations as well as future generations to come. The lifestyle of Americans keeps us too busy to be a healthy society.
By teaching children at an early age the negative side of obesity, it will help keep them reaching for fast food. Government should focus on informing them about the need to fresh food in our everyday diet and the side effect of junk food. By doing this at an early age, it will create a good habit among the children and it will help them in the long run. Government should also introduce more outdoor actives for the children. Children now a days spent more time sitting at home playing video game then spending more time outside being active. By promoting more outdoor activities, the government will help people be more outdoor than indoor. In big cities there are barely any parks or recreational place. By improving the outside atmosphere, government will encourage more people to be outside and be more

Childhood obesity is an increasing problem here in the United States. According to Schuab and Marian (2011) “Childhood obesity has reached epidemic proportions” (P.553). The prevalence of child obesity and overweight has increased over the last 30 years all over the United States, becoming one of the biggest public health challenges (Moreno, Johnson-Shelton, & Boles, 2013). The purpose of this paper is to give a background of the obesity epidemic, a review of current policy, and make a policy recommendation.
Childhood obesity is a serious problem among American children. Some doctors are even calling childhood obesity an epidemic because of the large percentage of children being diagnosed each year as either overweight or obese. “According to DASH sixteen to thirty-three percent of American children each year is being told they are obese.” (Childhood Obesity) There is only a small percentage, approximately one percent, of those children who are obese due to physical or health related issues; although, a condition that is this serious, like obesity, could have been prevented. With close monitoring and choosing a healthier lifestyle there would be no reason to have such a high obesity rate in the United States (Caryn). Unfortunately, for these children that are now considered to be obese, they could possibly be facing some serious health conditions, such as heart disease, diabetes, and some types of cancers. All of these diseases have been linked to obesity through research. These children never asked for this to happen to them; however, it has happened, and now they will either live their entire life being obese, or they will be forced to reverse what has already been done (Childhood Obesity).
The government should provide enough funding money to public schools to help fight child obesity by changing schools menus, adding more physical education programs, getting parents involvement, requiring teachers to change curriculum to more educational topics about nutrition and getting the community to sponsor programs that help train children on fitness and nutrition.

MD, Dennis Clements tells parents: “Obesity is a family event, not an individual event”.
