There is no such thing as a child prostitute, so we should just simply stop using the term. Girls who are being owned by these older men or “pimps” are being sold and trafficked to other grown men. The girls and children being exploited beg the men to help them, but when they do finally run into the police, they are being thrown in jail. If children who are being trafficked are being arrested for “child prostitution”, then human trafficking is not being taken seriously by the government and officials, because these kids aren’t even at the legal age to consent to sex but are being thrown in jail and labeled as prostitutes. According to Change.org and the research by the human rights project for girls, there have been for than 5000 instances …show more content…
in the past five years when reporters used the phrase “child prostitute” to describe exploited children. These children are tossed around with these men then when they finally see an officer they are being put in jail like a criminal. Police are ill equipped and don’t know how to handle these situations so the children often go back to their ‘pimp”, exploiter, or trafficker. In the past decade, states have dramatically changed laws targeting the sex trade to distinguish between voluntary prostitution and the trafficking of women and girls who are forced or coerced into selling sex. Also, girls in the justice system are often abused.
Actually, 80% of the girls in the system are abused or have a history of abuse. The system, though doesn’t know how to treat or identify the problem, or are once again, ill equipped. Laws in many states allow police to arrest girls as young as 13 on prostitution charges. The existing laws are so inadequate because we aren’t going after the true offenders. In addition, we need to change exploited kid laws. At the ripe young age of thirteen even though the law says you are too young to consent to sex, once money is involved, even if it’s not paid to you directly, the law says you are not mature enough to be criminally responsible. Almost every state a child under the legal age to consent can be charged with prostitution. In 2008, 849 children were arrested for prostitution. In 2010, the human trafficking report was at its highest (at the time of the report.) The term “child prostitution” should not be used because children cannot legally be a prostitute. They especially cant if they aren’t even the legal age to consent to sex. These children are being thrown in jail after they are exploited and we need to stop it. They are victims not criminals. The men exploiting and selling these young boys and girls need to face the consequences. Children should be reviewed and interviewed before being prosecuted as child

This journal article examines the issue of minor sex trafficking in the U.S and provides the reader with the results of the research that was conducted on the matter at hand. A data analysis consisting of 115 minor sex trafficking was thoroughly examined and studied. The information surrounding these cases was collected using two specific methods. One method included the reviewing of press releases of human trafficking cases issued by the Department of Justice. The second method was to obtain information via online searches of media reports.
In conclusion, while the world is trying to band together to stop world crises, we are failing drastically. What we need is hope, with the money brought in from human trafficking hope can be gained. This proposal solves the problems of the world on an astronomical scale. There will be no such thing as unemployment if we take a stand and send this in motion. The sex trade opens many jobs, products, and consumers to pay for their services. This proposal is not for the personal gain for a human, but the bettering of our people, society, government, and to pimp our economical growth and state. A modest proposal for the good of the general public, foreign nations, and the neglected children of this world today.
Nearly 100,000 children in the United States are currently exploited through commercial sex trade. Over 27 million people worldwide are trapped in human trafficking. Human trafficking is a problem that is still prevalent today. Many people are negligent to the fact that millions of people are currently living enslaved to the sex industry. Ending any form of human slavery will never happen, but becoming aware of the problem and creating ways to stop the numbers from rising or even getting the numbers to decrease is important. The problem of legalizing prostitution is it promotes human trafficking, exploit women, and present traffickers with a bigger industry.
Thousands of women are currently held captive in America today. In 2006, it is estimated that over 300 thousand children are held in the sex trafficking business. Particularly, girls under the age of eighteen are forced into the sex trafficking trade. Sex trafficking is known as modern- day slavery. An estimate of 30 to 46 percent of juveniles in the trade attempt suicide. “Potterat et al., 2004 reports that women involved in prostitution have mortality rates 200 times higher than the national average) and are 18 times more likely to be murdered than their non-trafficked counterparts”, Cecchet (2014). Many girls will become abducted from their homes, schools, neighborhoods, and local shopping centers. Some of these young
Victims, however, mainly consist of children and women who are forced to perform these acts under the influence of illegal substances. According to the article of the Protected Innocence Initiative, eighteen is the age that falls into the prostitution of minors. Focusing on this matter, United States borders have achieved to combat against domestic minor sex trafficking.
Human trafficking is define my wikipedia as the purpose of sexual exploitation is a major cause of contemporary sexual slavery and sex slavery is defined as the organized coercion of unwilling people into different sexual practices. Often the government will arrest and fine the individuals involved in a consenting sexual transaction, not really making any attempt to actually reforming the system if they wanted to. I feel as though if the governments involved in making prostitution illegal are creating a revolving door system, where they reap off of the individuals profits. I believe if the money that is generated by making prostitution illegal were applied to finding those involved in human trafficking than an end to sex slavery.
“Stolen people, stolen dream” is the brutality faced by numerous, vulnerable, gullible children in the black market around the world even in the admirable United States. Trafficking of children is the modern day slavery, the act of recruiting, harboring, transporting, providing, or obtaining a person for compelled labor or commercial sex acts through the use of force, fraud, or coercion. More than ever, it has become a lucrative method that is trending in the underground economy. A pimp can profit up to $150,000 per children from age 4-12 every year, as reported by the UNICEF. Also, according to the International Labor Organization statistics, “There are 20.9 million victim of human trafficking globally, with hundreds of thousands in the United
Certain people are more vulnerable than others, but that does not mean that any one person is safe. Children are easy target for those in the industry. “The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children estimates more than one-third of the 1.7 million runaway children each year are lured into prostitution or pornography within 48 hours of hitting the streets” (Lee) because “The vulnerability children experience when they are alone, hungry and without shelter on the streets makes them particularly susceptible to trafficking.” (Mzezewa) When children are without basic needs they are lured in by the trafficker and taken advantage
Some state statutes punish the act of prostitution while other state statutes criminalize solicitation and third party involvement. Prostitution is a serious problem in the United States. It is estimated that there are between 100,000 to 300,000 child sex workers. Adult sex workers are 22.1 per 100,000 . In an attempt to reduce prostitution, many jurisdictions prescribe similar punishments for customers and sex workers. The reality is that sex workers bear the brunt of the law and are more harshly and frequently punished than their customers. They are abused, raped and victimized without any recourse because of the illegality of their profession. Criminalizing their source of income creates social stigma, which prevents them from procuring other employment opportunities and leaves them without options outside of prostitution
Back in the century like in the 1800’s, juvenile prostitution was legally and sociable accepted but this change with the Mann ACT law in the 1910, which prohibited juvenile prostitution almost every were in the country. Today is prohibited in 49 out of 50 states with the exception of Nevada who still promote the adult prostitution legally. We really need to fight with this problem because is ending with our teenager liberty, social moral and is creating hire crimes (rape, muder, kinapping and more). “It is estimated that there are 60 million survivors of childhood sexual abuse in America today. Child abuse contributes to our overcrowded prisons as nearly 31% of woman in prison say they were abuse as children” (Pat Lunsford). More than
When it comes to the topic of legalizing prostitution, most of us will readily, agree that prostitution is a human right. Where this agreement usually ends, however, in on the question of prostitution being legalized. Whereas some are convinced that it should be legalized, others maintain that it should remain illegal. I agree that prostitution should be legalized. A point that needs emphasizing since so many people still believe that the government should not interfere with their life choices. Considering that it goes against the 1st Amendment, why shall someone not do as they please. A portion of the United States believe that legalizing prostitution would bring down the percentage of people being raped. It can save kids’ lives that are being forced to be
According to ProCon.org, prostitution was a profession that dated back to 2400 B.C. Though many things since then have changed, the practice of selling sex has been more or less the same. What has changed is the way that people now view the practice. Throughout the years the debate has been whether prostitution should become legal or illegal. Organizations like Amnesty International want to push forward the idea of legalizing consensual “sex work” between two adults who are willingly participating because it would help keep those in that line of work safer than they are now. While on the other side of the issue there are
By making prostitution legal it will help reduce these problems. According to Kirby R. Cundiff, PhD, Associate Professor of Finance at Northeastern State University wrote the April. 8th, 2004 working paper titled “Prostitution and sex crimes” that stated: “It is estimated that if prostitution were legalized in the United States, the rape rate would decrease roughly 25% for a decrease approximately 25,000 rapes per year..” The second study researched was a Dutch study and what this concluded was opening up zones called “tripplezones” in these zones were streets where prostitutes could work legally. Reports of rape and sexual abuse dropped by 30 to 40 percent in the first two years after the zones were open. The latest study to show a correlation comes from Rhode Island, There was a loophole in a Rhode Island law that effectively decriminalized indoor prostitution for several of years ending in 2009. In those years the state saw a significant decrease in sexual violence and cases of gonorrhea according to data analyzed by the National Bureau of Economic Research. Though legalizing prostitution won’t eliminate all sexual violence for sex workers it will decrease it tremendously making it a more safe work environment for
Children need to be raised with love and time to enjoy their childhood, if their neighborhood is filled with prostitution and drugs that can harm their development they may never get to go outside and play with their parents fearing for the worst. Imagine if prostitution was legal in every state and every neighborhood think of all the deaths that could potentially occur; also think of all the young girls or boys that could potentially get raped all because some sick person felt like it. Prostitution being illegal would just cause a world wind of harm to society as we know it. As for the places where prostitution is legal such as Nevada or Amsterdam many of the recipients of these sexual services run the risk of getting sexual transmitted diseases such as HIV or Aids to name a few. Also, many prostitutes have unprotected sex which results in them becoming pregnant and because they often times don’t know who got them pregnant in the first place they often times are ashamed and opt to have an
There are at least twelve point three million enslaved adults and children around the world “at any given time” (1.). Of these, at least one point three nine million are victims of commercial sex slaves, they are in the United States and outside the border (1.).
