Surgeons go to work every day to save lives and alleviate suffering. Being responsible for someone’s life is an extremely stressful job. Becoming a surgeon can be difficult for some people, because of the multiple skills they need. They need to have a variety of skills such as working well with others, high intelligence and having steady hands. Surgeons have long, demanding hours that can take a toll on their bodies. Surgeons have a major role in society, making sure their patients are healthy.

After the surgery is completed, a surgeon will update their patients’ charts with information to show what test was given and the treatment plan that has been followed, and will be taken as treatment continues. It is suggested that a person interested in becoming a surgeon have communication skills, compassion, is detailed oriented, dexterity, has leadership, organizational skills, patience, physical stamina, and problem solving skills ( Physicians and Surgeons” ). Out of surgery, they work in hospitals, clinics, and private practices. Many surgeons work over 12 hours a day, or more than 60 hours a week

Surgeons can be on-call and “may need to address a patient's concerns over the phone or make an emergency visit to a hospital.” Many hazards that surgeons face are going to possibly negatively affect their bodies.
