Recommended: The moral dilemma with abortion
The topic of abortion has been a controversial issue in America and each side cannot come to an agreement. Many people believe women should be able to make their own decision because it is their own body and because the baby is not born yet so it is not a human. While others believe once the fetus is formed, it is considered a human and has individual rights, and that aborting that baby is murder. Today, about twenty one percent of pregnancies will end with an abortion. Abortion must be illegal unless the safety of the women is in jeopardy, or due to rape or incest. Abortion takes the innocent life of a human being no matter how small, and it is murder.
Having an abortion affects a woman physically and psychologically. Women can suffer
A woman who becomes pregnant due to rape or incest has already been the victim of a immoral and violent act. Most likely they would already be traumatized from the incident, now they have to worry about raising a child that they did not intend to have nor wanted to have. The next nine months of pregnancy would constantly remind her of the horror she went through. Knowing that she will not have to raise an unwanted child would help ease her mind a bit from what happened. A difficult problem today is trying to that prove rape occurred and that it was not consensual. There should be some type of system to regulate that issue. Everyone that wanted an abortion could say they have been raped and get one, there needs to be a system to prevent that. Also, if a woman carrying a child is getting very sick or unhealthy because of the pregnancy the option of abortion should be available to her. It would be better to save one life than possibly lose both. Donald Trump on Meet the Press talked about how “he favored abortion rights in cases of rape, incest and the health of the mother ‘if the mother is close to death.’” Abortion is not morally correct, but in situations like rape, incest and sickness it is acceptable and should be
A Physician explains to Pastor Bynum that “Abortion is murder. Each abortion snuffs out an innocent human life. Tragically, doctors have deceived the American public. Referring to unborn babies as "fetus," "embryo," or "zygote," may be scientifically correct, but does not change the fact: These little ones are little human beings. Though called "parasite," "blob," or "tissue," give each wee creature about 266 days after conception and see what emerges from his mother 's womb. It will be a human baby, not a zebra, a trout, frog or an orangutan.” After three months of pregnancy the fetus in the womb is considered a person by law. There are many instances that prove the fetus is a person and has rights under the United States constitution. A women in Montana was charged for criminally endangering a child while she was 12 weeks pregnant. She was out of prison on bail and took different types of drugs while pregnant. Consuming drugs or alcohol is extremely dangerous to the fetus and can cause birth defects. Many states have passed fetal protection laws. Currently in 38 states, the murder of a pregnant women is ruled out as a double homicide. Former President Bush stated, “I do not believe the promises of the Declaration of Independence are just for the strong, the independent, the healthy. They are for everyone-including unborn
As to any argument, there are two opposing sides when it comes to the matter of abortions. These two opposers usually refer to themselves as “pro-life” and “pro choice”. Pro-life supporters maintain that abortion is wrong and pro-choice believe that it is a woman’s freedom to choose her pregnancy decisions. When it comes to the topic of abortions, most of us will readily agree that it’s a woman’s choice to decide what her reproductive decisions are, i.e. pro-choice. Where this agreement usually ends, however, is in the question of whether or not abortion is a fundamental right granted to women by the Constitution. Whereas some are convinced that a fetus is considered alive at conception, usually citing the word of God, others maintain that
Thou shalt not kill; one-tenth of what may arguably be the most famous guidelines of morality in the western culture, and also the main driving force for pro-life advocates. The argument supporting their beliefs typically starts with the premises that a fetus is a person, and to destroy or to kill a person is unethical. Therefore abortion, the premeditated destruction of a human being, is murder, and consequently unethical. I deny the fact that the fetus, what I will refer to as an embryo up to 22 weeks old, has the right to live. The opposing argument is invalid because a fetus, although perhaps a part of human species, is not formally a person. This leaves it simply to be a part of the woman?s body, whose fate lies solely in the hands of the pregnant woman alone, no different from a tumor she might have. By proving this, the abortion debate then becomes an issue of women?s rights, something that is most controversial indeed. Furthermore, it is fair to question the credibility of many people against abortion because of obvious contradictions in the logic of their belief systems. The fact that this debate is relevant in modern society is ludicrous since there is a simple and plausible solution to this problem that could potentially end the debate for good, leaving both sides satisfied.
Abortion, which is defined as a deliberate termination of a human pregnancy, is one of the most controversial issues in society. Many people believe that abortion is unethical and morally wrong, while others believe that it is a woman’s right to decide what to do with her body. According to www.census.gov, “the number of abortions performed annually in the U.S. has leveled off at 1.2 million a year” (1). This statistic supports how many women are choosing abortion. Although abortion is legal in the United States, many people continue to voice their opinions on how it is a human rights violation and should be illegal everywhere. The practice of abortion should be banned in society because it terminates the life of an innocent unborn child, causes long-term emotional effects, as well as major health risks for women who opt for abortion.
As I was doing research, I came across an article by Napolitano and I found a startling statistic:
Imagine you just found out you are pregnant. Your parents or boyfriend threaten to leave you if you don’t get rid of the fetus. But you have done your research and know the potential complications. What do you do? Do you have the baby? Do you give it up for adoption? Do you have an abortion? This might not be your story but it is the story of many women in Tennessee. Girls and women struggle with this decision daily. Actually, “3 out of 10 women in the U.S. have an abortion by the time they are 45 years old” (“Abortion Information”). [List] “Pelvic Inflammatory Disease, Uterine Perforation, Placenta Previa, Pre-term Delivers, Handicapped Newborns, Ectopic Pregnancy, Cancer, and Death” (“Abortion Risks: A List of Major”)-These side
In any culture, there is the perception of the pregnancy. Pregnancy is the real indication of the procreation to replace the old generation with the new ones since death is inevitable. But for some unavoidable reasons one may decide not to get pregnant and though she gets pregnant, she may choose not to give birth by carrying out abortion. Abortion has therefore been the most issue of concern globally, the main reason being it denies one’s life. Reasons for carrying out abortion or terminating the pregnancy are varied, and majority carry it for various reasons that many not be known to those not involved, but only the mother sometimes knows even the sire of the child may not be aware. Therefore, various methods have been implemented to create
Abortion has been one of the biggest controversies of all time. According to the Oxford dictionary, the term abortion can be defined as, the deliberate termination of human pregnancy, most often performed during the first 28 weeks of pregnancy. There are two different types of abortion; a spontaneous abortion, which is also known as a miscarriage, and an induced abortion, where the embryo or fetus is purposely removed from the women’s body. The topic of induced abortion has been widely debated for hundreds of years. The issue of abortion was argued way back in the time of the ancient Hebrews. Today many people consider abortion to be murder, but shouldn’t the soon-to-be mother 's right to make such a personal and heartbreaking choice be
In this state, country, and all over the world, there are a number of controversial topics, and there are always going to be. These topics range from debating on whether to legalize certain drugs, gun control, the death penalty, and the list goes on. One very popular topic that involves potential life and death, and constantly gets debated about is abortion. The topic of whether or not abortion should be legal has been around for years, and it isn’t going away any time soon.
There is also the argument that women who are raped or victims of incest should be forced to carry a child to full term and then give the child up for adoption. Statistics say that 1 in 3 women will be victims of rape or a sexually violent act but does this mean that 33% of women also should be forced to carry their violators child to term? It doesn’t seem fair that a woman loses her feelings of safety and loses her choice to say no and then also has to go through an unwanted pregnancy on top of it.(amplify, 2009)
Abortion was legally being done since 1880 in the United States. During that time, many states have started to ban abortion. Even though abortion was illegal in many places, it was still being practiced. Many by licensed physicians. They “risked losing their license to perform the abortions”. Even though abortion was illegal in most states, women all over the United States were getting abortion illegally. Some even performed self-abortions with “hanger and needles”. “Also many women would go to other countries and get an abortion”. Many felt the banning abortions was a way to limit women’s rights which led to many court cases. (ourbodiesourselves.org)
Abortion is the expulsion of an embryo or fetus from the uterus. This can be done naturally and spontaneously, also known as a miscarriage, or induced medically. It’s no secret that abortion has become a major debate over the past few years as well. Depending on the person some seem to be okay with this process and some are completely against it. There has been a decrease in abortion rates because some states have taken it as far as restricting access to abortion but also because there has been an overall decline in pregnancy rates. The link I provided will give an explanation for some reasons of why abortion should be illegal. To give some examples listed in the article; one states that it’s killing a child, another gives the option of adoption,
What is abortion? Often defined as the immediate termination of a pregnancy in its first stages. There’s a saying, “the earlier the pregnancy the easier the abortion.” (gynmed. Par.1) There are so many different reasons as to why women get abortions, but to me they’re just excuses. No reason is legitimate enough to kill an innocent child. Some argue that the child isn’t a human yet or has yet to develop at the time of termination, others argue that they have been raped and can’t bear the stress of keeping the child. And others are just too irresponsible to take care of a child. (Flanders Par.1) Even so these reasons still aren’t valid enough.
“In Twenty-first Century America, there are two classes of human beings, one protected by constitutional law and the other not. Human beings fully protected by constitutional law are those individuals who have already been born, and are recognized in law as persons. The second group consists of the unborn, which can be defined as the unborn human being from the time of its creation, in or outside of the human body and encompasses all forms of its existence, growth, and development, including zygote, pre-embryo, embryo, and fetus. The law does not recognize these “humans” as persons. Judicial fiat institutionalizes this status of being “separate and unequal.” An unborn human being is doomed unless it is wanted and chosen by its mother to be born alive” (Lugosi 226). Besides a few circumstances, most abortions are morally wrong because they are equivalent to murder, deny the right to life, and brutal.
Abortion has been one of the most talked about topics in society just about anywhere from television, magazines, whether or not it should be the right or wrong thing to do. Abortion is a very sensitive issue to discuss, because of its nature. Many people have said that abortion is a very bad thing to do and it should not even be choice whether or not to abort a living fetus. People think that abortion is committing murder as it is killing the human fetus. However, others feel that a woman should have a voice and have the right to choose to keep the child or not and that it is not murder until the baby is born. Majority of individuals who believe that abortion is bad say that the fetus is human who is partly being formed and to have an abortion is considered to be murder. For the people who think an abortion is ok, say that it’s not considered murder unless the child is born. I believe that abortion should be seen in which the stage the fetus is in. if the fetus is in an early stage of pregnancy it is not considered murder, but if the fetus has already began to develop into a larger fetus then it is indeed considered to be murder. There are times when abortion can be accepted, if the mother is having complications due to pregnancy. For example if the mother is enduring complications in her pregnancy that can harm her, because of the child in that case it is ok to perform an abortion to help save the mother’s life. It is also very important to understand this type of situation. The mother has the right to have an abortion and it is her decision because a mother knows best about her health conditions.
Abortions have always been a very controversial topic. Over the years we continue to fight for or against it. One can say that is one of the most talked and argued topic in the United States. An abortion is when a woman terminates her pregnancy before the fetus is viable using various of methods. Some argue that abortions should be illegal and considered murder, while others, from a religious point of view, say that no one has the right to take away the life of a person, in this case the fetus. However, others insist, that abortions are a basic women’s right.
