Whenever I go out to eat, I always comb through the menu for specific words: shark, snake, grizzly, etc. It 's not that I don 't like more standard dishes. I love a good steak as much as the next guy, but that sort of thing just doesn 't excite me anymore. If I’m going to commit murder by eating meat, as the animal rights people say, I want my murder to count. I hunger for danger foods. By my definition, a danger food is any animal that can take me in a fair fight. The way I see it, if it could have killed me when it was alive, I get to eat it once it 's dead. In fact, it 's my civic duty to do so. For example, a shark could rip me apart with its rows of razor sharp teeth. Thus, I get to turn it into poop. The circle of life continues. We weren’t licensed for bear, so we didn’t want to shoot it. Heck, we had no quarrel with him; we figured we would wait it out in the tree. But it wouldn’t leave once it smelled us. Shots in the air; no effect. An hour later waiting, no deterrent. We were near a creek where the bear could have it’s value meal. But it wanted something more. It wanted a human snack. And it got it. Never, ever, in my life has something tasted so good. We shared a meal that no restaurant could ever top. My father and I became even tighter. From that day on, regular meals tasted like plastic and hot dogs and no better than that. Dangerous dishes became our gourmet good eats.
The trend started and we found we were not alone: the animals we hunted as food got bigger and more dangerous, and a looksee on the internet said we weren’t alone. We care so much about what the food is and how it is made that we overlook about where the food had come from. According to the reading selection, “Killing Them with Kindness?” by James McWilliams, an American history professor at Texas State University, states “animals raised in factory farms have qualities that make them worthy of our moral consideration…[and yet, we] continue to ignore the ethical considerations involved in eating meat” (311). This exhibits that when Americans are so engrossed in healthy eating, our morals about animal rights are neglected. Most of what we eat are animals, and animals like we do have emotions, interests, and possibly goals in life. We pay no heed of the animal’s interests and it should not be that way since our interests are no more important just because we are more superior, intelligent beings should not give us the right to perceive animals in such a manner. In addition to paying notice of the origin of where the animals come from, we need to be aware of what killing animals will do to the earth. In the TedTalk, “What’s Wrong with the Way We Eat,” Mark Bittman states “10 billion animals are killed each year for food and they represent 18% of the harmful greenhouse gasses” (Bittman). This reveals that our careless consumption would not only lead to the suffering of animal deaths but the suffering of our world and our imminent death. For many years, vegetarians and vegans have been publicly exposed to stereotypes and judgment. A person who decided to eat mostly plants, was considered a freak or a nonconformist. In restaurants and at private events, vegetarians commonly experienced difficulties to find food within the chosen dietary pattern and thus, unable to fully be part of cultural or social events, such as thanksgiving and barbecues. The omnivorous public perceived vegetarianism as a stigma and vegetarians are still subjects of comedy in many cases. Furthermore, vegetarians were often believed to jeopardize their health for a higher cause. Despite warnings that red and processed meats are carcinogenic, most Americans consider meat the core of their diets (Teicholz, N. 2014).
Too much human meat causes a buildup of vitamin A and amino acids such as homocysteine in the bloodstream, which could cause congenital defects in future offspring. However, if human organs which are rich in B vitamins and folic acid are eaten along with the human meat, homocysteine is not able to metabolize in the bloodstream. This means that cannibalism could hypothetically be the basis of a healthy diet (“Natural Food”). Contrary to human meat and organs actually being healthy to a human diet, cannibalism is also said to cause madness and addiction based on sexual urges and gratification. There are so many dieting solutions out there and one of the most popular are the fad diets. Dieting should be about getting healthy and losing weight in a healthy way. Fad diets however, are about losing a lot of weight in a disproportionally short amount of time. Due to the loss of weight that the dieter wanted, when they reach their goal weight, they stop doing the fad diet and go back to their regular diet. This causes the weight that they shed to be put back on again in a disproportionally short amount of time, which is also just as unhealthy. This cycle of losing and gaining weight is only one of the many dangers of fad diets.

What the American culture is used to is eating three meals with a few snacks in between a day, and two out of the three meals usually involve eating meat. Most people don’t realize the risks of eating meat. Today’s medical experts say that avoiding meat helps you avoid saturated fat. They have found out from studies that women who eat meat daily have a fifty percent greater risk of developing heart disease than vegetarian women and a sixty-eight percent greater risk in men (staff writer). People may not know about serious diseases meat can obtain such as, mad cow disease and foot-and-mouth disease. In the September 1999 issue of the Emerging Infectious Diseases, approximately 76 million food borne illnesses- resulting in 325,000 hospitalizations and 5,000 deaths occur in the United States each year from improperly cooked or diseased meat (Licher). That is a lot! You can also get salmonella poisoning from meat. People think that the problems come from eating red meat and are opting for fish over steak, but new evidence proves that fish can cause health problems too, risks that can’t be cooked away. This is a growing problem called histamine poisoning (Peck). I think that we as Americans should change the way we eat because there is a lot of talk that the United States is one of the fattest nation in the world. Even in school kids don’t get healthy food that parent thinks that they are getting at school. In school lunches the kids pick what they want to eat and it’s not always the healthy thing on the menu. The food they give in school is not fresh and they just have to put in in the oven and that 's it. There is a lot of chemicals in the food that they give us kids. In the school that I go to the food is so nasty and something is raw. If your kids go to a school like the one I go to they wouldn’t want to eat the food so they buy chips.

Eating Responsibly To eat responsibly means to know what you are eating and knowing what you are putting into your body, whether it is healthy for you or not.
