Being physically active helps the body with building a better immune system. Having a better immune system helps a great deal when the weather starts to change and all of the people around you are sneezing and hacking. The body will be able to fight off the bacteria that are attacking your system. This happens because when the body is put through the stress of exercise it will deliver more oxygen and nutrients to the muscles that are being worked. Exercise helps all of the body’s organs perform better. By making your body deliver more oxygen to the vital organs, this is helping those organs perform more efficiently while having to work less. A major benefit to the mind from exercise comes from the release of endorphins through the brain. This gives you the good feeling you get after a tough workout. This can be beneficial for many reasons, some of the top being stress management, counters depression, even helps promote a better self image. Cardio can be performed in a vast number of ways. The most preferred method of cardio by the greater population is long and slow cardio. While this does help promote a healthy heart it has to be one of the least effective styles. By performing this type of cardio, one is getting their heart rate to a low average instead of pushing it into the cardio vascular threshold. This threshold is generally 75-85% of the maximum heart rate. This range is where the heart is truly pushed to its limits, making it produce more red blood cells to provide the accurate amount of oxygen to the heart and muscles being affected. America has become more sedentary as the years have gone on due to all the technology keeping us inside. “More than 80% of adults do not meet the guidelines for both aerobic and muscle-strengthening activities, and more than 80% of adolescents do not do enough aerobic physical activity to meet the guidelines for youth” (healthypeople.gov). Cardio helps the heart pump blood through the rest of the body. The stronger the heart pumps, the faster the muscles receive the red blood cells carrying oxygen. The heart is vital for any day to day activity, proper cardio gives anyone the ability to function better during day to day
Obesity is a serious problem that increases year after year and affects the lives of many Americans. It is a problem that needs to be eradicated, but who is responsible for this problem? Some argue that individuals are responsible for their own weight; that it is a private concern. Some others, on the other hand, argue that it is a public concern; therefore, the government should play a significant role to stop reduce obesity from the public domain. They also argue that advertisements for junk food are factors that increase obesity. As persuasive as the advertisements can be and even with the help of the government, it is our decision to not eat healthy and end up in a state of obesity.
One growing problem facing children today is obesity. When young people face weight problems it is often carried over into adolescence and adulthood. It is thought that if children are taught healthy eating habits from a young age then they will have more apt to eat healthy when they are an adult.
When promoting plus sizes and television shows, are self-esteem or heart disease also being promoted? People throughout the world struggle with being anorexic, bulimic, overweight, or obese. TLC’s now popular reality TV show, My 600 Pound Life, displays the daily struggles of morbidly obese people. While encouraging women to love their body is appealing, there are many dangers in the fondness of obesity. Glorifying obesity can lead to being morbidly unhealthy, as demonstrated by Dominique Lanoise, a woman who died from morbid obesity.
America is one of the most obese countries in the world, and the reasons are quite obvious. Take a look around. Fast food chains on every block, more and more technology to make our lives easier, and high amount of stress are just a few factors to weight gain in our country. There are many different views on obesity and how the people think it should be resolved, whether it's government making the change or the people taking care of themselves. Childhood obesity has more than doubled in children and tripled in adolescents in the past 30 years. Are we doing enough to bring these statistics down? No. In the last 40 years, there has been a growth to more than 160,000 fast food restaurants in America (“Adolescent and School Health”). Restaurants (such as Wendy's, McDonald's etc.) serve more than 50 million people per day, generating about 65 million in sales annually. Only since obesity has become a national epidemic have fast food restaurants changed their ways. But we need to do more than just change the kind of oil the french fries are fried in. Better yet, why don't we remove, or intensely decrease the number of the unhealthy fast food chains, and spread more healthy fast food chains, such as Subway? Is it something government could take act in? Should the United States government take measures to fight the rise of obesity in the country, or are choices concerning diet and nutrition better left to the individuals, free of government interference?
Currently, I do not have any diagnosed health problems, however I there are a large amount of diseases that run in my family, which puts me at greater risk to contracting them. As a result, I should be taking preventative measures to insure that I will have longevity and overall health wellness. Therefore my health change behavior goals are to workout consistently, and to eat less processed snacks and pastries. While these seem like simple changes , in the past I have struggled with staying consistent with my goals because I do not make time for them and I tend to forget the benefits in the process. I have chosen these specific goals because they fit in with each other and will ultimately help me to achieve my desired outcome which is weight
There is an epidemic running rampant across the United States and most people do not know the effects it has on society; this epidemic is none other than obesity. In the last thirty-five years, the obesity rate has more than tripled. Obesity has many ill effects and is the cause of many diseases. Washington Post journalist Wil Haygood, elaborates, “A lot of our medications are for ‘disease states,’ such as Type 2 diabetes, hypertension, things that can be adversely affected by increased weight” (411). Speaking with a pharmacist, Haygood explicates how obesity can lead to serious disease and further health implications that are difficult to overcome.
Restrictive doesn’t work! It’s like my dad telling me to quit seeing an older guy so what do I do……. You got it! I sneak around and did it anyway! There is something about telling ourselves that we can’t have something!
Food is the essential vitality of life and the essence of survival. It nourishes one’s physical body to enable pursuit of passion. However, in overwhelming aspects of American society, food is viewed as an enemy. It is seen as the root cause of obesity which carries heavy condemnations of ugliness and weakness. Countless people have become obsessed with food as a means of exerting strength, displaying will-power, and achieving alleged beauty. The way society views nutrition has become misconstrued and disordered, resulting in unhealthy relationships with food, and thus emotional and physical harm. The most effective way to change society’s relationship with food is to target the presentation, practices, content, and intentions of nutrition
There are plenty of people that do not pay close attention to the nutrition labels on food or do not understand what’s in the food that we eat. If we are expecting the parents, adults, or some of the children to be healthy and are not able to read the nutrition label, how can we expect them to have healthy lifestyles? In order for this new generation be healthy and active. We need to provide them with the support and resources they need. In order, to have a healthy routine. We should be able to offer the support that needs to be able to receive a better outcome for our future generations and as well as the current one.
I believe that physical activity will improve one's health in two aspects – the physical state of one's body, and the mental health of the individual, both of which are crucial in maintaining the well-being of a person, and taps onto other domains mentioned in the Healthy Lifestyle Index Report (such as BMI, sleep, stress and depression).
Eating Responsibly To eat responsibly means to know what you are eating and knowing what you are putting into your body, whether it is healthy for you or not. It’s a sad fact that the typical American diet (high in meat and processed foods) is not healthy. There are a lot of different ways to stay healthy, but it can also be very difficult to follow a good diet plan all the time. I know that breakfast is the most important meal of the day, and I have tried to eat well before all of my classes. I include the necessary protein of eggs and sausage, and include a fruit of some kind.
Working out can help with one’s studies. There are different chemicals that are given off to your brain while you work out. Endorphins and Serotonin chemicals get released into the brain. These two chemicals that flood the brain improve self-esteem, enhanced mood, provide better memory and provide mental functioning, and a decrease of stress. Therefore, exercise helps in school and everything throughout the

A healthy lifestyle is usually picked up as we get older.
