Recommended: Should parents give children allowances
I didn’t receive an allowance when I was a child and I think that is a large reason why I have a very hard time saving my money today attending college. Studies have shown that children who receive a weekly allowance have a good relationship with money and are more successful later in life, whether that means being prosperous in their career or just having a stable relationship with someone. It’s a win-win scenario for both the parent and the child, making an allowance not only a wonderful reward but the ultimate lesson. This will teach them valuable money skills, discipline, and to have a healthy relationship with money because it will show them that saving is always a good thing, it will teach children smart spending and how it is sensible, or they will learn how irresponsible spending can erupt in their face, it will be a lifelong lesson either way.
Reports have shown that parents who give their child a reasonable allowance have an easier time requesting their child to do a chore without bribing or getting into a conflict with them. When the adolescent turns 4 it is usually okay to start an allowance or whenever the child can grasp the importance/value of money. Communicating with your spouse about the amount of allowance received is very important because you don’t want there to be any mix ups when
Over paying your child can defiantly make them appear entitled and ungrateful, making an allowance the enemy. Some parents have testified that when they did have an allowance system in turned their child into a “sleazy sales person”. What they meant by this, is when they asked their kid to do a chore the kid would analyze the amount of time it took for the chore and then if the amount wasn’t worth the time the kid would want more money. What this does is transform the relationship between parent and child into boss and entitled
The contingencies will in summary run from casual reinforcement during oversight. Positive behavior will be rewarded by encouragement & access to privileged activity, negative behavior will result in time out & loss of privileges (i.e.: TV, special events etc.). On a weekly basis goals will be assessed & material gain or loss will be established. While normal allowance amounts will not be affected, access to it will be. If behavior is significantly below par bonus awards (Barbie's etc.) as discussed earlier may be disallowed & that portion normally expendable for incidentals (30%) will be put into the savings fund which may not be accessed by the child for all practical purposes.

Have you ever wondered how some athletes have gotten so good at a certain sport? Have you ever thought about what they did in order for them to get this good? For some the answer is simple; workout and train. But for others the answer is different; the use of performance enhancing drugs such as steroids. There are some people that argue that steroids should be legalized and allowed in professional sports. Other people argue that steroids should not be allowed. Today I am going to state my opinion and justify my reason. Steroids should not be allowed in professional sports because it can be very dangerous to the athlete’s health, it is a way to gain and un-fair advantage and it can be dangerous in both social and physical aspects.
Eggs came first. Millions of years before mammals, eggs existed, their hard shells unlike her mammalian sister who waddles around, heavily crippled with the burden of her womb. Eggs conferred evolutionary advantage.
Imagine being involved in so much pain and misery, pharmaceutical tests, vaccine tests, Military experiments and training and brain experiments. 125,000 primates are imprisoned in US laboratories every year. In order to take the Primates at a young age from their natural habits, trappers will shoot the mothers from the tree, shock the animals with dart guns and capture the babies who are still clinging onto their dying mother. Do animals not deserve to be cared for the same way people care for other people? In laboratories, primates go through series of experiments that lead up to their death. 90 percent of primates in laboratories develop psychological issues. After being taken from family, Primates are locked in a small steel cage and left to be alone. At most the primates are given cheap plastic toys, scratched mirrors and occasional fresh fruit such as an apple or banana. Primates will eventually begin to
Making a decision for the future can be hard, but it can be even harder when people are torn between their passions and meeting other’s expectations. In today’s generation, most students are expected to have their career chosen by the time they are out of High School. They are trained to plan and map out their entire lives. Yet, college students still end up having an undecided major by the time they start their freshman year in college. A huge issue that is present in today’s society is that college students chose their major for the wrong reasons. Parents pressure students to pursue careers in business, medicine, politics, and law; however, unless practiced with passion, those careers are pointless.
Imagine dedicating your life to a university not only on the academic level, but also the athletic level. With a full scholarship your time is dedicated to getting to class on time, finishing assignments, and making it to mandatory practices while also maintaining a strict workout schedule. With your day pretty much full of responsibilities, you do not have the time for a job to pay for anything that you may need outside of tuition, books, and housing. If your car breaks down or you run out of gas you have to pay for that out of your own pocket which is fairly difficult when you do not have an income to cover the costs and if you accept money or free services from any businesses, you could lose you eligibility as a NCAA athlete and lose your
High school education is for students to learn the basic information that is needed to prepare them for college. It is critical for students to feel that it isn’t a waste of time for them to wake up and go to high school everyday. Is it right for students to not come to school because they feel high school is a waste of their time? Majority of students has also felt that the courses they are attending aren’t giving them enough information that will be useful beyond high school. Shouldn’t students be in classes that will benefit them in the future? Should students be able to know what might be their strengths, and weaknesses in the courses that are required to be taken for a certain major? High schools should offer useful courses because it
Since women are naturally maternal and nurturing they obtained the role as the family’s primary caretaker, while the men became the providers for the home. For centuries these gender roles were strictly stuck too. Women stayed at home and did house work as their husbands went out and had a career. Thankfully, society is starting to shed this ideology on gender roles. More women are starting to work proactively in the “mans world”, but they are straining to advance to high executive positions throughout corporate companies. A lot of this is due to a women’s fertility. While the stereotype of women being strictly housewives has diminished, the mentality that women are too maternal is prevalent in business life. Due to this outlook women are perceived to be unable to take on the stressful pressures business prevails, giving reason to why for years women were only secretaries and clerks in business where they received little room for progression in their careers. A great deal of reasoning behind this struggle is due to the Great Man Theory. Author of “Inequality Between Genders in the Executive Suite in Corporate America: Moral and Ethical Issues” Dean Elmuti, describes this theory as society’s perception that men are the superior beings and should be the protectors and providers, while women are weak, helpless and should stay home to raise the family (1). Consequently, this view has led to an increased emergence of men as business managers and the leaders of the country, thus defending the male dominance in the corporate industry, but also preserving the discrimination against women entering the business domain. This theory and mentality that women can’t handle business life is infuriating. However, what is more distressing is due to...
When reprimanding a child, I think that it is important to give the child options to make their own choices. Autonomy is important because children will have more respect for their parents if they know that their parents respect their independence and their choices. Parents should be able to teach their children to the best of their abilities and instill them with good morals and habits, and let them make decisions from that point on; within the limits of their age. They should know what is right and what is wrong. When they are wrong, they should know that there are consequences. Using external motivation is useful in reprimanding children; however, internal motivation is more important. Children should fear disappointment in themselves and from their parents, more than having a cell phone or favorite toy taken away. Reprimanding children is difficult because parents are put in a difficult position in many situations. If you have a healthy and understanding relationship with your child, this will give them more confidence to make better choices and to do the right thing. With that being said, they will respect their parents’ reprimands because they know that they were taught and knew better; as well as had the choice to make those
A lot of people don’t know that they have to do more with their education and get a good paying job. If you are declined a job that you know you will enjoy, but don 't have the college papers for a job can get disappointing. Some people are not inspired to go to college, and others can’t afford it. Other issues involved with the skills gap for jobs is the high requirements for that area of work, and peoples soft skills. High school is supposed to help you plan you for the real world, but not many classes help teach you the real world. This forms the skills gap in America, this stops people from being able to progress in today’s community.
Building a financial literacy for your children is important. Giving them an allowance will help you do that. An allowance will give kids a chance to experience dealing with money before it becomes a crucial thing for them to know. The more practice and time they have dealing with money, the easier it will be for them to handle it as they get older. It will also give them more time to learn and perfect budgeting skills. Giving your child this skill early in life can help prevent complications when they are on their own. It is important to learn early on that you must work hard for the things you want. Your parents won't always be there to help you out.
Many students in grade school don’t obtain money very often because they do not have a steady income, so they are prone to spend the money they get. For example, if a student gets money for a holiday, the first thing that comes to mind is to spend it on something they want because they are not used to having money. They don’t know the next time they will get more money so they don’t see the importance of saving. Since there would be a constant income a student will see the effect of saving because their amount of money would constantly be increasing which will motivate them to keep saving. If students learn how to save while they are younger they will be more successful in life, and they will also have that money to use when they graduate.
Therefore, giving children their own spending money and calling it an allowance could possibly affect the way they perform chores. This could be a good or bad thing. The child may think that if they do not feel like doing their chores they do not have to, and the consequences will be that they will not get an allowance. When a parent sets the record straight, a child may become rebellious and not perform the task the way he should. However, the circumstances could take a turn in the opposite direction, and a child may perform their chores even better than they did before, specifically because they are grateful for an allowance.
Doing an excessive amount of for your kid, or "over-functioning," is another role that parent’s fall into when they are feeling guilty or remorseful. For example, when they ask their kids to do their chores, they tell them once, twice, thrice, and finally after about six times they simply do it themselves. Alternatively, maybe your kid is trying to complete a school project and crying saying that it is too difficult, and you feel pity and eventually help. It is vital for parents to not step in and rescue your kid from challenges, no matter how difficult they may appear to the kid. Doing an excessive amount to assist your kid through these challenges is simply offering your kids the message that they are not capable, or good enough, or ready to do things on their own. However, it is important to place confidence in them while guiding them.
