For some people sports is just a game, to athletes it is their life. According to the Ohio High School Athletic Association (OHSAA) an athlete can only participate in their own school’s sports or club sports (OHSAA). This means at New Knoxville Local School, my school, my brother or any other athlete won’t be able to play football while attending school at New Knoxville. My intention is to make it possible to go to school at one place, but play sports at another school. My brother, Caleb Miller, a 5’7 145 pound sixth grader seems to have an impeccable body of a football player. Not only does he have the body, but he has the passion for the game. His interest all began (about two years ago) when my cousin’s husband started coaching midget football for a neighboring school. Caleb then started begging my parents day after day to allow him to play. After a lot of consideration, he was allowed to join the Stallions football team. Now he and my parents are coming up to the strenuous decision of quitting a sport that he loves or open enrolling to a neighboring school. Both of these choices have many cons about them. A group of people decided to have the Legislature System look at the bill that would allow the same thing I addressed earlier. Diaz from an article said, “Athletics is the most important drop-out prevention tool we have in our tool kit” (Sweeney 2). At my school kids that play sports must not be failing two classes or they can’t participated in athletics that week. If a child is doing well in school they are less likely to drop out of school. An online article stated, “High school dropouts commit about 75 percent of crimes in the U.S” (Krache).
