Homelessness in the United States has been an important subject that the government needs to turn its attention to. There has been announced in the news that the number of the homeless people in many major cities in the United States has been increasing enormously. According to United States Interagency Council on Homelessness reported that there was an estimation of 83,170 individuals have experienced chronic homelessness on the streets of the United States’ streets and shelters on only a single night of January 2015, which is a small decrease of only 1% from the previous year (People Experiencing Chronic Homelessness, n.d.). The United States must consider this subject that most of the people underestimate it and not pay attention
Gentrification is described as the renovation of certain neighborhoods in order to accommodate to young workers and the middle-class. For an area to be considered gentrified, a neighborhood must meet a certain median home value and hold a percentage of adults earning Bachelor’s degree. Philadelphia’s gentrification rate is among the top in the nation; different neighborhoods have pushed for gentrification and have seen immense changes as a result. However, deciding on whether or not gentrification is a beneficial process can become complicated. Various groups of people believe that cities should implementing policy on advancing gentrification, and others believe that this process shouldn’t executed. Both sides are impacted by the decision to progress gentrification; it is unclear of the true implications of completely renovating impoverished urban areas; gentrification surely doesn’t solve all of a community’s issues. I personally believe that gentrification is not necessarily a good or bad process; gentrification should occur as a natural progression of innovative economies and novel lifestyles collide within certain areas. Policy involving gentrification should not support the removal of people out of their neighborhood for the sake of advancement.
which prove that a foster home is not the solution to help children in need. Although the
Homelessness is a condition of people without a regular residence. People who are homeless are usually unable to acquire and maintain regular, safe, secure, and adequate housing. Homeless people constitute a demographically diverse population, and the situation is a critical problem in United States. The homeless are known as “the wondering poor”, “sturdy beggars”, and “vagrants”. This condition often occurs due to poverty, but this is only one of many reasons a person can be homeless. In addition to poverty, homelessness occurs as a result of drugs, mental illness, disasters such as hurricanes, or even domestic abuse. It is not a criminal activity.
Have you ever wondered how some athletes have gotten so good at a certain sport? Have you ever thought about what they did in order for them to get this good? For some the answer is simple; workout and train. But for others the answer is different; the use of performance enhancing drugs such as steroids. There are some people that argue that steroids should be legalized and allowed in professional sports. Other people argue that steroids should not be allowed. Today I am going to state my opinion and justify my reason. Steroids should not be allowed in professional sports because it can be very dangerous to the athlete’s health, it is a way to gain and un-fair advantage and it can be dangerous in both social and physical aspects.
Home school education has been growing exponentially in America over the past couple decades as more and more families are deciding to cultivate their kids’ educations in a more personalized fashion. Parents choose to home school their children for a large variety of reasons. The most popular reasons for this decision include dissatisfaction with the current education system, religious freedom in education, and personalized education for certain skillsets. Home school educations grew in popularity as the Internet became more prevalent in culture. The Internet allowed parents to access more educational materials from home and communicate with other home school families across the globe. Home school has had an impact on the identities of students
Making a decision for the future can be hard, but it can be even harder when people are torn between their passions and meeting other’s expectations. In today’s generation, most students are expected to have their career chosen by the time they are out of High School. They are trained to plan and map out their entire lives. Yet, college students still end up having an undecided major by the time they start their freshman year in college. A huge issue that is present in today’s society is that college students chose their major for the wrong reasons. Parents pressure students to pursue careers in business, medicine, politics, and law; however, unless practiced with passion, those careers are pointless.
Over the years, the cost of college tuition has been one of the central issues limiting students, like me, from obtaining the best education that one could receive. Usually, this results in students settling for a school nearby rather than being able to have the choice to go to the best one in which they were accepted into, due to such skyrocket prices. Much of this problem or concern has to do with out-of-state tuition being much higher than in-state tuition, sometimes almost doubling the price of in-state tuition! Therefore, students are more pressured to remain in state rather than go to out-of-state schools that may offer a better education.
Homelessness is a subject that has inspired many to write poems, speeches, and even songs. However, there is more depth to homelessness than just a source for inspiration; this is an ongoing problem for many all over the world. The 40th president to the United States, Ronald Reagan, once said that "what we have found in this country, and maybe we're more aware of it now, is one problem that we've had, even in the best of times, and that is the people who are sleeping on the grates, the homeless, you might say, by choice."(Reagan). The president's expression is very powerful even today, implying that even in the best of times homelessness is one of the top issues in society. Notice how President Regan cleverly used the wording "by choice" at the end of the sentence, what did he mean to convey by this? Was he implying that those who are homeless are so by choice? Or that many individuals perceived homelessness to be a choice? Perhaps it was a way to raise awareness of the impending problems that can lead an individual to homelessness. According to the National Alliance to End Homelessness and the National Coalition for the Homeless, there are three triggering factors that lead to homelessness, lack of affordable housing, unemployment, and health care ("Why Are People Homeless?"). Therefore, when exploring into more depth the determining reasons, considering the key roles that a home, money, and employment play in an individual’s life will facilitate a better understanding of the downward spiral towards homelessness.
Homelessness has gained mass attention throughout the world. It’s an ongoing, insoluble issue that continues to exist and affect many in the Unites States. “Approximately 3.5 million people are homeless in the United States at any given time” (McBride, 2012). Sadly, due to the nature of homelessness, it is difficult to obtain an accurate number of the homeless population (McBride, 2012). Many people have negative prejudice views of homeless individuals. Self-worth, dignity, as well as trustworthy affects the homeless, often questioned by society. Through the testimony of John Doe, a better understanding will enlighten others, myself included, and bring awareness to this mass population.
Do you know that moving from place to another may causes psychological effect for kids? Moving means is to charge in position from one point to another. Out of a population of 282,556,000 people, 40,093,000 moved. (www.Melissadata.com). Outmigration happens for many reasons but some common factors are fewer good job opportunities, lack of amenities, and inaccessible healthcare. Also, could help kids to learn a new thing quickly and self-reliance. We know that children who move frequently are more likely to perform poorly in school and have more behavioral problems. Just as moving is stressful for adults, it's also stressful for children, so it shouldn't be a big surprise that children experience a variety of emotions related to moving.
It doesn 't seem to matter what the weather is like, what time of year it is or where I am. I have never gotten used to sleeping outside. At first it felt like camping, it was warm and the park was nice, I was young and saw it as an adventure. As time went on however the cold reality of how I was living set in. My part time job didn’t produce enough money for me to afford a place to live and college was eating away my savings. I ended up couch surfing until I started to feel like a burden and that 's when I started sleeping outside. Not long after this decision I lost my job, since no one really wants a homeless college kid working for them. After I lost my job I withdrew from college, since I had no way to pay for it. All of sudden I was a twenty-something, jobless, homeless, college dropout. Every dream I had was dead, and the only goal I had was finding a place to sleep at night and food to eat.
Jennings Burch, a child constantly in and out of foster care must worry about if he’ll go back to a home. Jennings mother is very sick and cannot take care of her children, so she sends them to foster families. She continues to get better then worse, so the children are constantly at home or with a foster family. Jennings constantly wonders if he will go back to foster care, if the home or family, he will be in be nice, if they will have the necessities that he needs, if anyone will come for him. Jennings is one child in foster care, there are about 402, 378 children in foster care who are probably asking themselves the same questions. Children should not have to ponder over if they are going to eat the next morning or if they will be beat
As high school students today get ready to go out into the real world, they are faced with many questions of how their future will compare to their parents’ lives. The media often opine that the younger generations will not, on average, surpass their parents’ success (Elliot). With the rising cost of college tuition, housing, transportation, food, health insurance and stagnant salaries, students are questioning what path their lives will take (Meyerson). Is it worth it to go into debt for college and graduate school, or will they make as much or more money going to trade school to become a computer programmer or electrician? Does it make sense to have many kids, when more than likely both parents will have to work outside of the home? Should
Moving is not as simple as packing your belongings into a few boxes and hitting the road. While it would be nice if moving were that simple, there is much more involved. You have to budget, plan, hang out with friends and family for the last time, research the area you’re moving to, pack your clothes — the list goes on. One thing in particular you have to figure out before the moving date, is how you are going to transport large items that require special attention and won’t fit in the back of a pick-up. While many people spend time considering different options to transport these large and unique items to the new location of their home, there is really only one smart option: hire professional movers that offer speciality moving services.
