Global warming has been a major issue for the past few decades. Some people believe there is not enough evidence to support it. Future generations will suffer the consequences if everyone does not cooperate to reduce the effects of Global warming. Carbon dioxide emissions from automobiles and factories trap the sun's heat in the atmosphere which causes global temperatures to rise, melting of polar ice caps, and extreme weather patterns.
First, the release of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere has increased a lot over the past few years, causing more heat to be trapped in the atmosphere. This leads to record high temperatures in colder regions, such as the arctic, becoming warm. Wildlife in those colder regions is decreasing in numbers because they cannot adapt to the rise in temperatures and causing habitat loss. One example is the polar bears that heavily rely on polar ice caps for hunting, but warmer temperatures melt the ice caps and forces them to swim longer distances to find food. Record breaking droughts have been recorded causing severe damage to crops and affecting millions of people. In California and the Western Regions of the U.S., droughts have become longer which leads to water shortages. Local economies, ecosystems, and agricultural have suffered due to these super droughts. It also leads to frequent wildfires because of how dry plants and grasses have become. The warming climate has caused stronger hurricanes over the past decade. These super hurricanes lead to millions of dollars in damage in countries such as the Caribbean islands and South Coastal regions of the United States. Most recent is Hurricane Harvey which caused severe damage and flooding in Houston, Texas leaving thousands homeless and thousands more dead.
