The rate of obesity has always been high in America. Contributions include places like fatty McDonalds and inventions of segways and likewise technology. Due to this increase in weight, personal trainers are always in need. A personal trainer is there, one on one with their client and assists them in losing weight and achieving personal goals. Becoming a personal trainer is my chosen profession and I am fit for this job because of my love of fitness, my ability to handle hard work, and the enjoyment I get from helping others
When I was little I was adopted from Mexico at the age of 4. Being from a third world country I was very sickly and unhealthy. My father has a love for fitness and at a very early age started me up on all kinds of sports. I was signed up for club basketball, swimming, soccer, softball, and even running at various points of my childhood. Soccer and running were the two sports that stuck with me all through my high school years however. I became a starter for my high school soccer team and ran JV for my schools’ cross country and track team. My mom was the one who taught me healthy eating lifestyle. She made sure that most of our meals were healthy and had good nutrition in them. We seldom had a pies and cakes but were introduced to the sweet, savory goodness of fruits. Being healthy growing up made me want to help others who just couldn’t seem to get it.

Being a personal trainer has been a dream of mine for quiet some years. Making my dream come true will be very fulfilling for me. In the future I hope that I can help many people out. All the hard work is worth it when I’m doing something I’m so passionate about. I hope I can change people’s lives for the better and give them hope for their own future. After starting out at a gym, I will have prospects of moving on and creating my own small business. The route I would like to take would be Exercise Science for Athletic Training. I want to be an Athletic Trainer because growing up, I loved playing and watching sports. I played baseball for about 2 years, ran track for 3, and played basketball my entire life. After my high school career, I knew that I could not stay involved in sports because all of the injuries I have experienced so I decided I wanted a job that is behind the scenes but still rooted in athletics.

Many times I’ve asked myself why do I want to be an athletic trainer. As a child I’ve always been extremely helpful. Whenever I would see someone who was injured I would always want to be the first person to lend a hand. It also didn’t help that my mom was a Doctor who practices Internal Medicine. I would always see my mom giving people check ups and prescribing them different medications to take and I thought it was so cool. I decided that I would be a sport’s doctor! It seemed like it would be lots of fun.
Over the last 8 years I have been in the positions to learn many different skills and ways of approaching various situations. My interest in as an Exercise Physiologist intern with Henry Ford Health Systems I assisted in cardiac rehabilitation and exercise stress testing in addition to providing patients' education for proper physical activity and event lifestyle modification as a weight management consultant. Since finishing the internship I have been a practicing personal trainer since 2007 working with many types of clients from the everyday working mother keeping in shape to the athlete trying to reach the next level of competition. Recently, I finished a summer internship with the Central Michigan University Strength and Conditioning Department.

The gym where I train and workout, the Dubuque Martial Arts Group, is a place where I know who I am. It is a place I can go to escape my problems for a while and release some stress. It's not the actual physical building, but rather the events that have occurred there over the years. It's where I have formed some of my closest friendships. It is the place I have invested years of hard work for many of my accomplishments. To some it may seem odd that a place associated with sweat, blood and physical pain mean so much to someone. However, in my eyes it's almost like a second home.
By taking a stand against the rise of obesity, America’s bodies will be in healthy condition, and are able to be the positive motivation for others to follow. Once more people choose to live a happy and healthful life, the decrease of obesity will begin to show. The solution to solving the issue of obesity in America can be possible by: eating healthier foods, getting proper exercise, and setting boundaries on what fast-food industries can sell to customers. People need to get up and get moving for the problem of obesity and its trail of nasty effects will consume the healthy way of life everyone knows today.
