My name is Stephanie Sue Hurley and I am a 28 year old mother of 4 children from a very small town in Grundy, Virginia. My children Caden, Shylar, Harley and Jacey are my inspiration for wanting to become a school teacher. I love my children, as well as every other child I meet, this is why I could not see myself doing anything that didn’t involve working with children on a daily basis, for the rest of my life. While I know dealing with children daily can be somewhat tiring, I could not imagine wanting to do anything else for a career. While taking on the profession of becoming a teacher, I will take on many roles such as, “researcher, lifelong learner, caregiver, family and child advocate, provocateur, playmate, and many others,” (Follari, …show more content…
Above all else I will ensure that each and every student who passes through my classroom is treated the same. I will show each and every child respect and resolve problems to the best of my ability. I will make a promise of confidence to children know that I am there for them an I am someone they can reach out to at any time. I will protect every student, keeping them from harm. Showing a caring nature and enthusiasm in my classroom is very important to me. I will make each assignment challenging, yet not too difficult for them to complete. I will involve families as much as possible and when necessary. All rules will apply to everyone. I will show moral courage and intellectual integrity. My work will be based on knowledge of how children learn and develop. The bond between child and family will be made a priority. I promise my students an adventurous, stimulating, caring and safe environment. I will protect each child and report any suspected abuse. Lastly, I will base all of my relationships with children, family, peers, colleagues, and community on respect and trust. I think this is what it will take to make me the best teacher I can possibly
Volunteering at a children’s crisis treatment facility, volunteering with Special Olympics, coaching children’s sports teams for 10 years and working as a substitute education assistant has increased my understanding of childhood development. Grandmound Elementary School provides me with opportunities to strengthen my leadership and collaboration skills, through teaching art (as a volunteer) to the 3rd, 4th and 5th grade and serving as PTA president. I was able to implement many enriching opportunities for students in areas of art, science, and reading. I learned to work as a team, set targets, achieve goals, give and receive guidance. Participating in these activities has confirmed that working with families and particularly children are my purpose.
I love working with kids. From babies who are only 6 months old that cry nonstop, to kids in their “terrible twos”, to preteens who are going through their phase changes, I enjoy spending time with them all. I myself am an only child, and can remember always asking my parents for a baby brother or sister. My wish never came true, which is why I cherish every opportunity I get when I am around children. I feel connected to children even if they are not related to me, which makes our bond so special.
Elementary School teacher, a professional educator for grades k-5, is a career I wish to pursue because I want to teach children the building blocks of education, love the energy and excitement that younger children give off, and want to be able to help children with special challenges. I have wanted to be an elementary school teacher for about three years now, I knew I wanted to pursue this occupation because there are many benefits to being an educator, and have always worked with children well. Some challenges are I will have to get a bachelor 's degree and have to complete a state licensing exam (“preparation 1”)
I intend to treat every child the same, and this means never giving up on any child. I am sure that there were many times that teachers wanted to give up on me, but there were a few that strived valiantly to show me the way. I hope that I can be that teacher for them. I want to persist to try to find the good in every child. Thus, I would like for them to find their niche, as I have, realizing that it may not be in the sciences or art, or any of the subjects that I love, but that they can find a sense of who they are in learning.
Ever since I was a little girl I had this dream of being a teacher. Whether it was making up “pretend” tests or having my younger brother sit through my instruction, I knew that I was a born teacher. And now that I have grown and matured into a responsible young woman, I feel that my place in this world is in the classroom. I feel that the children are our future and we should teach them everything we know to the best of our abilities. Every summer since the age of 13, I have been babysitting for local families in my small hometown of Pineville. In fact, 2 years ago I had been babysitting for a Optometrist and his wife and they were expecting their second child. As an honor, they asked if they could name their second daughter after me. Kara Nicole was born in June of 2001. As a matter of fact, I have found that my feelings on education often reflect the song The Greatest Love of All by Whitney Houston. She states in her song that she feels that the children are our future and I must say that I agree completely with her sentiments on the education of our youth. When I came of age to enter college, there was no question in my mind as to what field I wanted to enter. Elementary education was the only option for me. One of my favorite quotes, although I do not know the author, says that “To the world you may be one person, but to one person you may be the world” and I must say that this reflects my philosophy on education. To me, this quote reveals every compassionate thought I have on education alone. Teachers in some small way or another can be the sunshine in a child’s life. In my opinion, teachers, play many roles; mentors, confidants, sources of inspiration, and disciplin...
After graduating college it is time to hit the real world, so it’s time to begin of what I want to do for a living. The career I’m striving to achieve is to become an elementary teacher or middle school teacher. Becoming a teacher would be fantastic, it’s a job I know I would enjoy and I’m passionate about. Being able to help young students learn new things every day would be amazing, knowing that in elementary years it is the foundation of a student’s education. Teaching in general and watching people through the process of learning the is the main reason I’m seeking a career as a teacher.
Over this past summer I’ve worked at a recreational park mentoring young children. I was still determining what major I wanted study upon college move in day; I was clueless. A week before dispatch, a girl wrote me a letter. It read “Dear Mr. Christian, Thank you! You are making a great impact in our community. Sincerely, Madison” after reading the letter it inspired me; I realized teaching was my strong suit and the Education field was best for me. Teachers take on many roles in student development such as a family figure, mentor, role model, motivator, etc. The goal of a teacher should be to influence children, motivate them, and then watch them sprout into well-rounded individuals. Many people see teaching as an underpaying profession,
I have always tutored and assisted others in math and science, but about eight years ago while pursuing my master’s degree in Wildlife Biology, I took a couple of classes that changed my life. These classes (natural resource interpretation and environmental education) opened my eyes to the fact that I wanted to become an educator. I loved my education classes and discussed with my major advisor the fact that I wanted to become involved in education. As an extension specialist, my advisor was very involved in education and community outreach and he could help me to further my pursuit of education as a career. He offered me the opportunity to coordinate the Utah WHEP (Wildlife Habitat Evaluation Program), a 4-H wildlife education program. I took the position and conducted the program for three years. During my time as the Utah WHEP coordinator, I worked with youth (aged 11-19), teaching them about wildlife, their habitats, and their management. With this experience, I knew that I had definitely found my calling.
My goal in life is to become a kindergarten teacher. I have wanted to be a teacher since I started going to school when I was five years old. I was undecided on what grade to teach until I took teacher cadet during my senior year of high school. I decided to student teach a kindergarten class, and I was with them for six weeks. After being with those students for that period of time, I realized that I needed to be with kindergarteners. I love younger children, and I want to be able to make a difference in their lives and build relationships with them.
Oh Gosh! I was in a big portion of my life. I came from a low income family as well my mom was the phone operator for a hospital which she still is to this day. She makes a little bit more than minimum wage and she plateaued in level very happy today. I knew that I wanted to do more and get more out of midtown Florida. I can remember a time at the age of 22 when I had come off of my families healthcare I was in college and I remember the first time I got really sick and I went to the doctor and they told me it was $ 180 to see the doctor and I told them I could not afford that and they informed me that there was a free clinic at the Department of health so I went down their pretty scared a
How many of you have asked the question, “Why do we go to school?” Well I did. I asked my parents and I remember the answer I got, it was so I could learn and get a good job. Now that I think about it, I don’t want a high-paying job. I want to make high-paying jobs.I want to own a business. Many people want to be business owners but only some decide to actually go through with it. In a book written in 2009, The author, Dr. Frank Luntz took a survey and asked employees this question “If you had to choose, would you prefer to be a business owner that employs 100 people or a CEO of a company that employs 10,000 people?” 80% said the business owner that employs 100 people, 14% said the CEO of a company that employs 10,000, and 6% said I don’t
Brooke Smith Professor Molland EDUC101 22 January 2015 Schools are arguably the best resources for teaching children and young adults how to be well-rounded individuals. The teachers influence the student’s lives tremendously and hopefully leave a good impact on the student’s education. From the very first moment the students and teachers meet, they are impacting one another’s lives. Some teachers, whether they are good or bad, affect the student’s lives forever.
“I wanted to become a teacher to be able to make a positive difference on the future of children. For me, it is fulfilling challenge, stimulating the next generation to become lifelong learners. I have always been grateful to my mom (who is a retired teacher) for implanting values in me. I feel I should contribute what I have learned and experienced over the years. This way I will be paying back and at the same time can fulfill my desire of enhancing the education system.”
I am a hard-working, confident and conscientious and have a keen desire to be a primary school teacher. The main reason I want to pursue this vocation is because I love the prospect of working with children, being such an important part of a child’s life is a real honour. I have been fascinated at how quickly they learn things, gaining an insight into their perceptions and how they see the world, the idea of playing an active role in helping them develop, greatly appeals me. Having a long term goal of working with children, I believe I am particularly suited to a degree in Primary/Physical education. I gain huge satisfaction from being able to help them learn and discover new things about the world. Nurturing a child’s development is an occupation that offers huge satisfaction, both intellectual and emotional. My ambition is to be in charge of a classroom, to introduce ideas and skills to the class and observe and feel their response. The teacher’s skills of good communication, patience, clarity and the ability to explain the world are very demanding of one’s intelligence and one’s p...
When I think of becoming a teacher I would like to imagine or hope that I would be “turning the key” for a student of mine to become something great. I have been soul searching for many years now to have a better understanding of what I am suppose to do in my life. I have worked in so many jobs in so many areas but nothing was fulfilling my life with any amount of meaning. I found myself not wanting to go back the next day or wishing I were somewhere else. Well I guess everyone does that is what I would tell myself.
