Waking up each day, nothing being special or new; you continue on with your life. If I will wake up tomorrow, gaining a quality or ability, it would be having the ability to never give up and staying optimistic. My life is somewhat rather ordinary, ups and downs, but I always try and move on. There are points in life where all I want to do is lay in bed and just forget about everything going on. We reside in a world with many issues, and our society is growing up; addicting to our phones, relying on the internet for help, where shootings and attacks on the innocent almost seem normal. We sit on our beds and accept all the flaws that have been placed in our society. I'm capable to admit that I am as well, constantly forgetting about the concrete

In my opinion, I have been through lots of obstacles. From one of my best friends dying to my grandmother passing, it’s hard. But I didn’t quit, I didn’t give up on life I moved on and lived for them. Purpose; be unique, not average. Growing up our biggest want is to fit in. The last thing we want to do is stand out. We should have a purpose in our life span. I want to make a difference wherever I can, and impact somebody in a massive way. Sacrifice; seek wealth not riches. A few things we sacrifice each day that go unnoticed are, Time, Money, Relationships, and health. All of those things we sacrifice leads up to us creating wealth. Not necessarily money, but having what we need to be successful. Use your wealth to change others. Even with money, don’t let it change you. I write all of this to say, I want to be the best me I can be. I constantly want to work on becoming a better version of myself. The goals I have set for myself aren’t what a normal person should believe. I am working on being unique and not average, but also keep a high quality of life and thought. Rather than focusing on what I don’t have and lack, I will try to appreciate what I do have. I will try to approach the life with an open mindset and not with a victimized mindset. I also want to be able to experience the peace that Liz Murray mentioned of not having to worry about always receiving more than giving. I do not want to surround myself with a restless mentality of counting things I could have and the things I do not have. Cynicism will definitely get the best of people and I do not want to live in a world where everybody scrambles around trying to chase down a materialistic lifestyle while having no concern about others. Liz Murray has taught me to embrace the notion of community in addition to improving oneself. English was a second language for me and without the help of the precious individuals who I have met along my journey I would not been able to write this essay today. A person simply does not live by himself, but also with other individuals within a community. If we feel the need to improve the quality of our lives, we also have the responsibility to look out for those who are not capable of doing it

Seizing the day is extremely harder than what people think. We as human are made with the lateral septum, which is the part of the brain that makes us worry. Worrying can causes anybody’s day to turn terribly wrong. I disagree with some when they make the notion to not let petty things bother you like; bills, lack of money, love etc. But I also can see how people can say those things. Those are the people with all the perfect things in life and they don’t have worry. It’s like saying “easier said than done” meaning it is much more difficult than it sounds. Since the beginning of my academic endeavors, I have long cherished a dream to be a member of the social science research community, which gives our society progressive insights into human ecology. I began my undergraduate studies at Ramapo College of New Jersey with a passion for ecological justice and with the intention of majoring in environmental studies. Ramapo College’s progressive liberal arts foundation provided me with ample room to explore the multifarious array of social science courses. As I took more social science courses, however, my understanding of human social groups underwent a metamorphosis. As a result, I decided to pursue a degree in Social Science, with minors in the two fields I felt most passionately interested in, Women’s Studies and African American Studies.

Most people wake up with the sun shining on their eyelids, and calmly getting up and stretching their limbs. Their dreams are undisturbed and the only issue they face waking up is their eyes are bleary and limbs heavy with sleep. When my father, a navy veteran, wakes up, he wakes up in terror searching the area for people wanting to kill him. He wakes up wide eyes, and hands in defensive position to keep anyone from hurting him. It lasts about thirty seconds before he calms and relaxes back. My father doesn't get to wake up calmly, his dreams consist of his friends dying in war and bombs. They aren't just bad dreams either, he's reliving his past in the worst way.
It was not too long before I discovered the faults in my erroneous living. I finally realized, and truly not a moment too soon, that if I did not start living for the present, my future would soon become my neglected present. I would have wasted my life doing meaningless things and I would have no experience to share with anyone who may be interested in the uneventful life I had led. After I came to this startling revelation, I grew even more apathetic in my depression. I truly felt that there was nothing I could do to remedy this situation and was at a total loss for solutions. Soon enough, though, I concluded that there was no alternative to hard work to change the current state of affairs in my life. It was then that I truly embarked on the most difficult journey of my life thus far. This being the journey of self-alteration and successfully changing my own behavioral patterns.
