Personal Statement: Stuyvesant High School

Stuyvesant High School is a specialized high school in New York borough of Manhattan. It is a very prestigious school focused on Science, Mathematics, and Technology. It is one of the top high schools in New York State. To be accepted into Stuyvesant, you have to take the Specialized High School Admissions Test and get a grade that is or above the school’s cutoff score for that year. Stuyvesant has an average cutoff score of five hundred and sixty-two. Through hard work and dedication, I achieved a score of five-hundred and seventy on the test and I got accepted into the school. Whether it is because it will be at a higher level than middle school, is about the very high school expectations from their students that I was hearing around me,

or just a new adventure for me, I am so anxious of what is in store for me when the time comes.
I have many expectations of what high school would be like.

From the academic point of view, subjects are expected to be advance therefore a lot harder. That is because they want us to get used to arduous endeavors, for the years of hard work ahead of us. I just hope that the knowledge and the preparation done for me during my middle school years will make me well equipped for the challenges my new school will give me. In addition to that, high school will be preparing us for the next level which is the college level and I expect that I will be trained to be an independent person as a whole. This will be a lot of adjustments on my part because the teachers where I am now are not only supportive but very attentive to all of us, their students. I fear that the teachers there will not be as considerate and caring the way my teachers do now. Of course, the teachers will care about the welfare of their students, but, maybe they will not be as warm as here in Blessed Sacrament. I just hope, that the teachers in Stuyvesant would not be exceptionally hard on freshmen students, so I could easily adjust to my new life as a high school

student.
Although, I expect high school to be hard, I also expect part of it to be an enjoyable experience. I am looking forward to trying out the different clubs and take interesting classes, such as Zoology and the Japanese language. With added attractions around the school, are many restaurants where I could probably enjoy lunch once in a while.

There are some things that I am afraid of with going to my high school.

One, me having a new school is having new faces around me. I don’t know anyone, so I have to start making friends. Since I am new, I am scared that it will take time for me to find friends, just Iike the friends that I have made in my middle school. Another thing, is that the commute from my home in Staten Island to Manhattan is long. In the beginning, I am scared of getting lost going to school, thus being late to school and my classes. I will not have enough time to do my homework too. Most of all, I am terrified because of that, it will affect my performance in

school.
High school is the pathway to college. College is the pathway to a successful career. Stuyvesant is known to have a great number of students accepted into Ivy League schools. I hope Stuyvesant will provide me with the necessary tools to get accepted into one. It is my dream to go to college at Harvard University or at the University of Oxford to study business. I want to be a successful business woman. In ten years time, I expect to have a stable job that makes a sizable amount of money, with benefits, or own a thriving business. I hope that Stuyvesant will prepare me to achieve the goal I want in life.

Stuyvesant is an amazing high school. The students that had graduated from there have made a name for themselves and I aspire to follow in their footsteps. In spite of all the difficulties that I have when I go there, I strongly believe that Stuyvesant High School will give me all the knowledge and training that I need, so I could advance myself to college and thereby allow me to establish myself as a professional career woman and probably make a name of my own in ten years time.
