Personal statement Being able to connect with an audience through a performance has been something that has fascinated me from an early age. It interests me to see how an actor can make the audience amused and involved them in what they are watching, I have always wanted and inspired to be part of this. Drama has played a big part in my life and has also had a great influence on building my confidence, being able to act has helped me evolve as a person who is able to understand others in more depth. Through acting I have been able to express myself in many varied ways by playing various characters. The feeling of being part of something that is bursting with enthusiasm and energy gives me a profound level of achievement and I would love to be given the chance to be able to gain more knowledge and experience of the subject and advance in my own personal skills. …show more content…
Throughout my time there I have had the chance to participate in many productions which have given me different levels of responsibilities and allowed me to challenge and express myself. This has included being a part of creating set design, choreographing dances and promotional work as well as acting. The company has given me a chance to gain experience through playing a wide range of diverse characters. During my time at sixth form I have gained skills that will help me towards my study in drama. In the skillful novel, "How To Read Literature Like A Professor" by Thomas C. Foster, there is neither a protagonist nor antagonist. As a whole, the novel gives insights on how to pick up signs of symbolism, irony, and many other hidden details that are buried within the words of literature. Foster refers to many classis novels by classic authors to demonstrate the use of logic in writing. The novel is extremely educational, leaving many insightful questions and interpretations to the reader's opinion.

The central figures in these three works are all undoubtedly flawed, each one in a very different way. They may have responded to their positions in life, or the circumstances in which they find themselves may have brought out traits that already existed. Whichever applies to each individual, or the peculiar combination of the two that is specific to them, it effects the outcome of their lives. Their reaction to these defects, and the control or lack of it that they apply to these qualities, is also central to the narrative that drives these texts. The exploration of the characters of these men and their particular idiosyncrasies is the thread that runs throughout all of the works.

The changes to each character’s personality and tendencies throughout both novels are the products of the characters’ environments. By incorporating the Romantic ideals of nature and traditionalism within their books, both authors effectively comment on human society’s structure and evolution, while outwardly demonstrating Rousseau’s myth.
People read literature an abundance of times, but yet many don’t actually undergo the appreciation of the novel. Some overlook pieces of the novel and consider it insignificant to the whole story because those readers are inexperienced. The book, How to Read Literature like a Professor by Thomas C. Foster, allows readers and students to fully comprehend the meaning behind the book, making them assured to read “like a professor”. Letting the reader to go further in depth surely helps their analytical thinking to flourish. Having no boundaries when analyzing, Foster sure provided plenty of creative imagination discussing about archetypes and how we should consider the character’s perspective.
For many people, literature provides a different way of seeing the world and of thinking about our own lives as we vicariously experience the lives of other people through the reading experience. After reading these three novels, there are many things I have learned from them and I can strongly relate to many aspects of these novels using my personal life. Many things that happen throughout the life of a person can ironically be the exact same thing that is in a novel. Many times the answers to the problems of the person can be shown in the story or through the characters.
Acting is seen in your everyday life, whether it be on a tv, in a movie theatre, on a stage, or even in person! Acting goes as far back as 500 B.C. when it was used for the same thing it is today, entertainment. It still goes by the same basic rules, yet it has changed some. I’ve always loved the thought of being an actress on the big stage, so I thought this would be the perfect time to figure out if this is what I really want, or possibly make me want it even more.

Since I am a film and theatre minor I want to learn more about these subjects. I plan on getting involved in any way that I can with the school’s drama and film departments, especially any clubs they offer. More importantly, I want my passions flourishing in the heart of London. I want to experience West End theatre and watch British films. My study abroad is going to expand my knowledge and give me opportunities that I might not get at Salve. What I learn while studying abroad will help me understand my degree more and give me an idea of how I will use it in the future.
I’ve learned to appreciate the beauty of how theater is more than a mere performance, but rather an artform with nuance and depth. My knowledge on theatrical styles has expanded and some of my favorites we have studied in class are Brechtian and Chinese theatre styles. I grew up participating in musical theatre, but never had the opportunity to truly learn the history and details of the craft. After studying RENT, I am inspired by the various possibilities for theater beyond acting, singing, and dancing. Theater can be used for activism or as a form of commemoration. Theater is relevant by communicating issues to the world. Theater is so much more than a dramatic presentation.
