I have always liked children and once I heard about the wonderful opportunity Junior Achievement of New Jersey was offering I could not let that opportunity pass. I spoke to my teacher and told her I wanted to be part of this. I taught kindergarten students and I taught them about personal finance, but that wasn't the only thing we did with them, we also played games with them; Seven Up. Junior achievement has prepared me for a future in the workplace because I was able to teach children. Teaching is difficult, teaching children is even more difficult, I had to keep the children entertained the entire time, and since I had Kindergarteners, so I had to be very specific in giving directions to them, they did not do anything unless direction
I’m so happy to be given the opportunity to join National Junior Honor Society(NJHS). I would love to be a member. I think it is important for kids to be involved in the community. Also, myself personally it would be an honor to be a face for our school.
Being proud of something can have many different meanings to people, but to me, it means to be honored and to be glad that something happened. I am proud about many things in my life but one thing I am extremely proud of is my induction into the NJHS. NJHS stands for National Junior Honor Society.
As a student at Northvale Public School, I have grown up with my older siblings being inducted into an organization called the National Junior Honor Society. I had seen all the hard work and dedication they put into their school work and activities just to get into this society, making me want to be just like them. Then a few weeks ago, I found a note on my desk in homeroom telling me that I had been nominated to be apart of this society. Through citizenship and character, leadership, and service, I intend on being inducted into the society I have heard so much about. Though it will take a lot of effort this school year, being a part of this society is a dream of mine that I will make sure to come true.
Not only am I confident that Rutgers University will fully assist me in reaching my personal enrichment, but I have faith that it will help me to achieve my career goals as well. Throughout the years, the Scarlet Knights have surely made a name for themselves in New Jersey. I have yet to decide on a specific major, but attending Rutgers will allow me to get a taste of the many majors the University has to offer. Benefiting from Rutgers is not the question. The real question is how would one not? A degree from Rutgers has a such a strong value. Not just that, but there is a lot of involved with the school and students.
Volunteering at a children’s crisis treatment facility, volunteering with Special Olympics, coaching children’s sports teams for 10 years and working as a substitute education assistant has increased my understanding of childhood development. Grandmound Elementary School provides me with opportunities to strengthen my leadership and collaboration skills, through teaching art (as a volunteer) to the 3rd, 4th and 5th grade and serving as PTA president. I was able to implement many enriching opportunities for students in areas of art, science, and reading. I learned to work as a team, set targets, achieve goals, give and receive guidance. Participating in these activities has confirmed that working with families and particularly children are my purpose.
After joining however I quickly realized the difference I could make in someone’s life by simply donating a few hours of my time. The school children I mentor 2-3 times a week are one of the greatest delights. Many of them do not receive any one on one time with another individual except for when I am tutoring them. These children have such great potential if only their parents and other adults around them would take the time to see it. It fills me with great satisfaction knowing that I am making a difference in those who one day may be leading this
I have had several wonderful opportunities to work with children. At my school I enjoyed helping teach a young children's music class by playing songs for them, telling them about the violin, and helping them develop a love of beautiful music. I would enjoy continuing this as an adult. Last year I helped a kindergarten teacher in an underprivileged school, stapling papers and supervising children. I most enjoyed helping small groups learn the alphabet, supervising two children at a time as they tried to match the capital and lowercase letters and identify each letter.
I am someone who can get bored really easily. Sitting in a chair for six to seven hours is not for me. I come from a supportive family. My family is always encouraging me to always to my best in school and outside of school. I am currently thirteen years old and go to E.O. Green junior high. My family is made up of two of my parents, three brothers and one sister. My motto is, “Even if stuff look awful , you can change that.”
When I was sixteen I started working with children from low socioeconomic backgrounds at a Family Resource Center. Everyday I saw how many of the children got overlooked at home and at school. This experience was critical in my decision to become a teacher because I know that I will always go the extra mile with each and every child. All children have lots of potential and need to be able to express it in some form whether it is with creative writing, making maps or building a model. All children deserve to be given the adequate time and attention they need to grow, learn, and achieve. Children should feel comfortable developing hopes, dreams, and goals and realize that they have the opportunity to achieve them.
There are many reasons people decide to enter the teaching field. Some enter because they enjoy working with people or children, others because they like being off during the summer months, and still others because of their love for a particular subject. Although all these reasons are valid, I feel my reasons are much simpler. The bottom line is that I love kids and enjoy working with them. My desire to make learning a more positive experience for them has only increased with time.
Junior Achievement is something that I’ve greatly learned from. My experience in the classroom was heartwarming, and informative. The kids were wonderful, and they showed me how difficult teaching will be, but they also showed me how rewarding it will be. From the start of observations, I knew that I would enjoy being with first graders. The first day I was there the students were curious, and asked me various questions. Of course, the students’ being curious was something I expected. I was also nervous to meet the students for the first time. Throughout my observations I was able to watch the students grow and learn from their teacher. I also watched them learn as I taught them from my Junior Achievement lessons. The only downfall of this
The summer after sophomore and junior year, I worked at Aim High teaching math, but I feel like I did so much more. I worked one-on-one with a student named Deshawn who has ADHD and has difficulty focusing in class. What I learned through working with him is he wanted someone to care and pay attention to him. I developed a behavior plan for him where he would get prizes and we worked away from the larger class. Deshawn is one of the most intelligent kids I have ever met. Through working with him I know I want to fight for kids who need more attention and are struggling to find that in public education school systems. I remember on one of the last days of program he said to me, "You are like a sister to me because you always help me " and I

I have a broad range of accomplishments. Most of my accomplishments have been in several subjects such as mathematics, science, and even tennis. I credit my achievements to my own perseverance and growth, my mother’s support, and my teachers throughout school. My mother on the other hand, I volunteered at her workplace and I assist in managing a small business in operation, maintenance, administrations, and customer services with give me some basic knowledge of how the money work.
I spent most of my time in a first grade classroom. In this classroom I observed the children as well as the teacher and paraprofessional. This classroom had children with special needs and that is why there was a paraprofessional in the classroom for half the day. What I observed in this classroom was how children with special need should be handle and taught. The teachers in this room loves her job and each student in her class. While in the classroom the teacher allowed me to help with children with their work, read to them and help them with anything else that they needed. During this field experience I got to give back to not only a school, but to a community that is very near and dear to my heart. I hope that I touched each student in a special way, because the students that I got the opportunity to help learn touched my
