The juvenile probation is called the workhorse (Delisi, & Conis, 2013). The juvenile probation system has programs to help with issues for the juveniles and their families. There is a team of people in the court system who all work together to help and treat juveniles with serious mental issues. The team is comprised of judges, juvenile probation department, county medical hospital, District attorneys office, and the public defenders office.
All in all, the ideas surrounding the criminal justice system were affirmed by the field practice experience. Many open doors have resulted from the venture into the field of probation. As an advocate and future employee of the criminal justice system the skills and intellect gained from the college of criminal justice at SHSU along with the internship opportunity with the Dallas County Adult Probation Department will serve as a path to a successful career. The talented individuals and extraordinary situations encountered on the journey will not be forgotten.
Justice has always been the goal of our court system, but it is not always served, especially in cases involving juveniles. The judiciary process has evolved from a system that did not initially consider juveniles, to one where juveniles have their own court proceedings, facilities, and even rules or laws. The juvenile justice system has come a long way, and people have worked very hard in its creation. A juvenile is considered to be an individual, under the age of 18, resembling an adult. However, resembling an adult does not always mean that juveniles will have an adult mindset. Thus, juveniles may need extra attention to help get their lives on track. The Merriam Webster dictionary defines Probation as a period of time given to someone who commits a crime and instead of being incarcerated are allowed to spend their sentence in the community based on conditions set aside by the courts. After careful consideration and great thought this is the route I decided to take. I believe that parents play a great role in some of the decisions their children make. The decisions children make today are a reflection of their parents. My focus on this probation model is to place both child and parent in an institution were they would undergo a period of restoration of family values, rehabilitation, parenting courses, academia and counselling. The ages of these juveniles will range between the ages of ten (10) to seventeen (17) years old.Therefore I stand for institutionalized probation and how this probation will assist in instilling family values.
What is the difference between juvenile diversion and probation? Juvenile diversion is processing a juvenile without going to court. It is a referred to the commonality board like court for youth, or if there is legal insufficiency they would dismiss it. Diversion can have a number of essential and imperative designs. It can benefit juveniles who are low-liability that are less likely to make poor decisions and avoid the stress that can have consequences from being delinquent in the determination process. Diversion has provided some great conveniences for public collaborators and victims to have an effective role in managing low-liability juvenile delinquents. Even though, diversion programs deflect confinement and condemnation probation punishes if one should be convicted of an offense and could possibly be confined if the delinquent should happen to violate their terms of the probation process (State of Alaska, 2012).
I have selected a Juvenile Detention Worker. I chose this job type because I like working with the youth. There are so many children that are in need of attention. I believe this is why some of them act out due to the need of attention. There are many reasons as to why a child acts out. A juvenile detention worker may also save a child from the prison system. The type of task a person that holds this position will mainly be doing is working with children and adolescents. However, other tasks that go along with this position is supervising juveniles that have been placed in detention by the court system. A juvenile detention worker must ensure the safety and welfare of the children and adolescents along with transporting them to various locations.
Routine activities are the things that someone does each day, who they do things it with, when they do it, and the locations that they choose to do these things. In the case of juveniles it might be going to school, spending time with their friends at a mall after school, or even just driving around town. Kids who spend a majority of their free time with people their age, especially if these people are delinquents, are more likely to be presented with a situation of crime. The routine activities, mixed with the people they do these activities with; can lead juveniles to delinquency, especially when there is a great lack of supervision.
