As a Registered Nurse, I am constantly learning new things every single day. Learning about the body, how the body reacts to certain medications, how mental health ties in so directly to physical health and also how important the basic human needs truly are. I am honored and blessed to be able to call myself a nurse and to be a part of my patients’ healing while they are under my care. I have become a stronger person since I became a nurse, and for that I am truly thankful. It is at this time in my life that I find myself seeking more. Seeking more answers, more knowledge, more autonomy, and most importantly more life and nursing skills. As an RN, I can only do so much for my patients each day, within my scope of practice, and depending on As a Pediatric NP, I will be responsible for using my knowledge and critical thinking skills to diagnose and treat the many complex medical conditions found in infants, children and adolescents, while also focusing on disease prevention and overall health promotion. I believe that my academic background has prepared me immensely for my graduate degree. While at Regis College, I completed my BSN in just 16 short months, and was honored to be a part of the first graduating class of the Accelerated BSN program. My previous bachelor’s degree at Westfield State was also something I am extremely proud of. I was able to change my major halfway through my freshman year, and still managed to complete my four-year BS degree in just 3 years. I am confident that I will be successful in this program, because I thrive in environments where I am put under extreme pressure and find myself most successful when I have more things to do and less time to do them. My time as an RN has also prepared me for this next step in my life by teaching me more about myself as a person and as a nurse. I have learned to better manage my time, and how to prioritize my days, while using my critical thinking skills to make changes to my plan as necessary throughout my
When people think of a pediatric nurse practitioner, they normally think of a person who performs examinations, takes blood samples, and measures vital signs of children who are sick. What they don’t see are the countless hours spent getting to know the patient, showing sympathy and understanding, and having to explain the diagnosis and treatment plans to the parents and sometimes to the child. According to my career cruising inventory, any job in the medical field would be right for me. However, after reading the descriptions, I concluded that a pediatric nurse practitioner was the best path. I will be attending nursing school to receive my nurse practitioner license, while specializing in pediatrics. The skills, educational requirements,
As a medical / surgical RN, I provided care for the elderly, the infirm, the mentally challenged, the young, and the psychologically disturbed. The wide variety of patients exposed me to the effects of life style choices, health care choices, and the resulting impacts to the patient as well as to the family of the patient. This experience has fully matured my view of the awesome responsibility that we, as health care professionals, have been charged with, and it has furthered my desire to obtain the skills necessary to provide more advanced care for my patients. In addition to exposure, maturity and experience, my career as a medical / surgical RN has also sharpened my critical thinking abilities and provided insight on observing signs and symptoms that a patient may be unware of. Furthermore, as a charge nurse I learned the importance of collaborating with other health care professionals in order to provide the highest level of care available. In summary, my career as an RN has provided valuable experience, maturity, exposure to impact and outcome, enhanced my critical thinking abilities, and improved my collaboration

I have the personal determination to face the challenges and rigors of nursing school. A degree in nursing paves ways for other degrees to emerge especially for those interested in furthering their education in health care. I am committed to continue to pursed advanced degree in nursing ultimately becoming a nurse practitioner. . In the next five to ten years from now, I want to write articles and books about nursing and healthcare related. Therefore, I believe that if I improve myself further positively, I will grow from strength to strength and one day my paper will be read in one of the prestigious newsletters, journals, and textbooks. I know the sky is my starting
During my undergraduate years in college I wasn’t quite sure what I wanted to become when I “grew up”. I would study various professions and never felt like anything fit for me. One evening I sat down with my aunt, a nurse, and I was talking to her about how I couldn’t decide on a major and how frustrating it was to be in college feeling as if I did not have any direction. She looked at me with complete surprise on her face and said, “You aren’t applying for nursing school?” I stared at her for a moment because I was confused as to why she would ask me that. She chuckled and proceeded to tell me that she had always assumed that I would be a nurse because I spent several years of my life taking care of my 3 year old cousin who had cancer. For three years I was his caregiver and it had never occurred to me that I could make a living caring for people. I then spent countless hours researching nursing and what exactly nurses did. This was it! I had finally found what I wanted to do for the rest of my life! It took no time at all to know that I wanted to specialize in pediatrics. Throughout my clinical experiences in nursing school I have immensely enjoyed working on the Pediatric units as well as the Nursery. I am now absolutely certain that I am meant to be a pediatric nurse. Cook Children’s is recognized as a Magnet-designated hospital and is one of the best children’s hospitals in the US. Being a Cook Children’s nurse resident would allow me to fulfill my passion and dream of pediatric nursing. I am interested in a nurse residency at Cook Children’s because of its excellent reputation in patient satisfaction, standard of care, and community involvement. A residency at Cook Children’s would allow me to gain more experience and know...
Becoming an advanced practice nurse has been a goal of mine since attending nursing school. Being surrounded by Clinical Nurse Specialists (CNS), Nurse Practitioners, Nurse Educators, and Nurse Administrators gave me the inspiration and drive to continue my education as a Parent-Child CNS. As a practicing bedside registered nurse, I want to fulfill my desire to develop on a personal and professional level. Advancing my education can provide me the opportunity to become an expert in my profession by gaining more knowledge and skills to educate patients, families, and the healthcare team.
“Every man is born as many men, and dies as a single one.” This quote by German philosopher Martin Heidegger fits well with my decision to aspire to become a physician assistant. While I always wanted to help others, especially the disadvantaged of our society, I did not initially realize what outlet this longing would have. Ultimately, however, I found that the PA profession was the best avenue where I could unite this concern for others with my intellectual strengths and abilities.
The article was complicated, but it helped address the learning patterns and what a nurse needs to know in their practice to better themselves and provide the best care for a patient. By acknowledging the patient as a person, applying science based practice, using artful skills, and ethically providing care to a patient, the nurse extends their patterns of knowing and forms their knowledge base.
With Emily graduating from the University of Minnesota School of Nursing, I knew I would be getting useful and excellent advice from her. The first most important question I asked was, “What was the hardest part about nursing school?” Emily commented that the “clinical preparation worksheet were time consuming given you had to start on the worksheets a day before the clinical, then go to clinicals early to look up information, then after spend several hours looking up different medications and lab values.” With this being said I am definitely not surprised because I know that the nursing program is very time consuming as a whole, and it is a very competitive program. However, I am so excited and driven for this challenge because in the end of all the schooling, I will have achieved one of my biggest goals. The next question asked, “Do you have any advice to someone like me that is going into the nursing field?” Emily confidently answered with, “Keep an open mind about all the different specialties. Especially during school, be willing to try different areas and working with different populations.” I am really glad that Emily gave me this advice because I am so interested in pediatrics, but I also need to keep in mind that I need to experience working with different
I have had the opportunity to care for wonderful individuals, each of whom have contributed the fabric of my personal nursing career. Nursing is a profession of both joy and sadness combined. My career has provided me the opportunity to care for those I need. In retrospect I can say that my personal nursing tapestry is comprised of patients who were grateful to a care team, after being revived from suffering a sudden cardiac event, the smile of a trusting child, a hand to be held while working with hospice patients and their families. My current role is a case manager. I seldom have direct contact with patients who have chronic illnesses, yet I am gifted with their trust. I have been given an opportunity to support, care, respect, educate, collaborate and research practice improvement initiatives. I continue to formulate my own nursing philosophy daily. While I experience daily encounters that allow my tapestry to become more colorful and detailed, I allow myself to set new goals. My final nursing goal, is to become a nurse practitioner. I can see myself in the next year working in an academic capacity in becoming a leader in rural health improvement and proficient at educating patients with diabetes and other chronic conditions, speaking at national events, advocating for patients and playing an active role in health policy. In five years I can see myself being ready to embark on another
I chose this major because I have been interested in the health sciences my entire life. I once considered being a Pediatrician (because I love babies) but then realized that Pediatricians deal with a lot more than just babies. Also, I want to be more hands on with patients than a doctor is, which is why I decided on neonatal nursing. Beyond just my BSN, I hope to someday get my masters in Neonatal Nursing. I believe that this career is my calling. I have tried to find a “back-up plan,” but nothing comes even slightly close to providing me with the same feeling of warmth as the thought of this career. Technically speaking, I have completed all of the prerequisites I need for the program, with the exception of Physiology, which I plan to complete in Spring 2016. I have also completed all of the UCORE requirements. Furthermore, the two classes I failed were not needed for nursing or UCORE requirements, so I will not need to retake them. As far as extra requirements go, I will be taking a year off, following completion of Spring 2016 for personal reasons. I will use this year to complete the fifty hours of community service, along with studying for and completing the TEAS
After completing registered nursing school in 2006, a few years later, I obtained a bachelor’s of Science in Nursing in 2016. Over the last 10 years, I have tried to look for inefficient procedures, finds ways to streamline them, and consistently have striven to boost the productivity of everyone around me. Working as a nursing supervisor an area hospital for the last 3 years, I have tried to promote healthy patient outcomes. I understand the need for procedures but I also try to maximized the time spent educating the patients and family. By allowing time for good explanations to both the patient and family development of an understanding their disease process can occur. This empowers them to make informed decisions and promote health improvements. Throughout my career in nursing, I have tried to successfully communicate and partner with other members in
Completing my Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) has been one of my goals after I graduated from my Associate Degree in Nursing, and I said one of my goals because my ultimate goal is to become an Advance Practice Registered Nurse. It is the first time I am taking classes online and all my efforts will be in turn this journey into a positive experience to achieve my goals. One of the biggest challenge is to overcome the lack of time between my family and my work, but it is essential for my career to achieve the Bachelor Degree in Nursing, as well as personal development. Although I have had experience as a student, as a nurse, and as a leader, I would like to have more challenging job opportunities in my future. From my college experience,
As nurses, and nursing students, we play a key role in the daily activates of our patients, their overall treatment during their hospital stay, and their outcome in a holistic view. You will see how this role is played out through peer-reviewed and published journals, and statistical outcomes of patients related to their basic level of care from the nurse.
The goals I set included taking the NCLEX examination once I got approval from the board, getting a few months of work experience in either hospital or skilled nursing facility, and start Registered Nurse (RN) to Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) program by spring of 2016. I am lucky that I have been able to accomplish the goals that I set when I was still in nursing school. I also challenged myself to finish the BSN program within a year which is why I decided to study at CSU Fullerton; they offered the 1-year BSN program for registered nurses. To achieve this goal, I quit my job to be a full time student. Now, I have another goal in mind that I want to pursue after school. I want to become a mental health clinical nurse specialist after I get my BSN degree. By December 2016, I will have my BSN degree and I will apply to a hospital and work there for at least two years to gain more knowledge and experience. By early 2019, I will go back to school for a master’s degree. Continuing education in the nursing profession is essential in delivering the highest optimal care to patients. It also allows nurses to have professional growth, and helps nurses to be informed of all the new researches and evidence-based practice (DeCelle, 2015). The higher the level of education a nurse achieves, the more experienced they will be in applying the art and science of nursing in their practice. Nurses will also be more competent and
Another primary reason of why I want to be a nurse is the chance of making a difference in other people’s life. Being able to help them with something as big as making life and death decisions to something as small as listening to their stories is an opportunity to influence their lives. And this is something that I will want to do for a long time. Also, I have a grandfather and a dad who are both sick. I enjoy assisting them with all their needs and being with them during doctor appointments. Moreover, I know that they will continue to need my help in the
