Don’t take our word for it - see why 10 million students trust us with their essay needs.
As I walked down the gravel road, breathing became more difficult as the harsh sun beat on my back. I did not know if I could withstand it much longer. All I could think about was the sun - until I made eye contact with a little boy. His oversized t-shirt was drenched in sweat and dirt. He was breathing heavily, fighting tears to no avail. It was then, the large mass on the side of his forehead became more obvious. I could no longer selfishly feel the heat - only empathy for I knew the root of his pain: denial of proper medical assistance. “Life’s most persistent and urgent question is: what are you doing for others?” Martin Luther King, Jr.’s words never had the same meaning for me again. At the time of my moment with the little boy, I was not able to provide as much help. But, the moment awakened a new part of me. I have always been fascinated with science-oriented interests. I remember being young and intrigued by the complexity of the human body. As I grew, puzzles and critical thinking became essential to my learning process. Now, I can recognize that my knowledge for science is a skill. It has become the way for me to bridge my curiosities and passions. When I saw that child, I did not understand the influence science …show more content…
I interacted with more people than I could count - all the while astounded by how many clinics were needed to give the underprivileged basic medical needs. This required participation in interviews on patient history and diagnostic discussions with supervising physicians. Daily, I saw the eyes of the little boy in young patients; I was reminded that it was possible to make a difference in these other countries. I had another opportunity that I did not with the little boy: I was able to form relationships with many of the terminally ill patients while serving tea and talking in hopes of boosting
As I was helping oversee the young students competing in various science-based events, I was enthralled
One year ago, I was given a life changing opportunity to intern at San Ignacio Community Hospital in San Ignacio, Belize. Each day brought something new: a man limping towards the emergency room with a deep shin laceration after a machete fight, mothers and their children waiting to be evaluated by a pediatrician for the first time, and numerous teen women who would soon be in delivery with no previous prenatal care. Patients traveled miles by foot, bike, or taxi to be seen at the hospital every day and we worked until all were cared for. Consequently, I witnessed how a public health system functions in a rural, considerably underserved community.
Since my youth, my curiosity correlated with my scientific endeavours. My biggest academic interests are Science and Mathematics, because the complexity of concepts intrigue and challenge me. I ask numerous questions, aiming to completely grasp notions, both on class material and on extra research done independently. Problem-solving always lit a spark in me: where most would abandon, I utilize my creativity to push forwards. Chemistry and Physics are omnipresent in everyday life,
What comes to mind when being asked what the most important aspect of our life is ? Could it be money, or clothes, or friends? The answer is quite easy, its our Health. Without our health we have nothing. Each and every person should evaluate their personal health and make goals accordingly. A lot of the time we think we are on track with our goals, only to realize that we are in fact not treating our health as we should. Take me for example. Before evaluating my health due to this assignment, I thought I was on the right path and making the right choices. It turns out that I needed to reevaluate.
When I was a child I was a very science and book orientated. as only child I spent a lot of time alone finding hobbies or trying to create things. Then I read my first serious book it was all about car and how car mechanics built these insanely fast cars and this immediately sparked my interest in the automotive world.
Healthcare administration is a field that is often overlooked, but is essentially the beating heart of any healthcare organization. With more and more hospital, and clinics, and other healthcare organizations popping up everywhere there is a need for people like me to manage the day-to-day operations. I am choosing to apply to this program because I want to study how the U.S. healthcare system operates. I want to learn the essential skills of operating a healthcare facility such as managing a budget, reducing healthcare costs, analyzing the efficiency of an organization and proposing ways to improve it. This program is going to give me the necessary education and skills so I can carry out my goal of being a healthcare administrator.
As I became older, my bold affinity towards science dwindled, but never fully dissolved. I was always ready to get to that year’s class, whether it was the Biology class with the story-centric coach or Physics with a teacher with the mind of a genius (however, him staying in this small hole in the ground is beyond me, as he’d be much better off discovering things rather than attempt to teach rowdy, unruly sixteen to seventeen-year-olds
The study of public health includes a wide range of fields to choose from. I mainly want to focus on environmental health, which I believe is the most important field in public health. Environmental health is a very important aspect of the sciences. Globally, nearly 25% of all deaths and total disease burden is mostly associated with environmental factors. In the long run, it can affect human health. The main reason why I want to enroll in the MPH program is my interest in understanding how these environmental factors affect human health, ultimately leading to many diseases and disorders. I need a career that helps a large number of people, emphasizing prevention and primary care rather than tertiary care, and would potentially continually challenge and motivate me to improve. A MPH-Environmental Health degree is the right choice for me.
I am a scholar and a fixer. Learning new things and solving problems are two things I find myself devoting the majority of my brain power to, not because I have to-- but because those are things I genuinely enjoy. My heart (and my brain) call me to science and math because they speak equally to my curiosity about the world and to the analytical side of me. The pursuit of knowledge never stops, not for me at least. The more I learn about the world the more I realize I do not know nearly anything, which just makes me crave to know more. And with more knowledge, comes more problems in my wheelhouse which I can solve. There is something so uniquely soothing about finally figuring out a problem; whether it is the solution to a complex mathematical problem or just the answer to a simple “why is this happening?” question. It is a euphoric high I could spend my life chasing. I yearn to understand everything I possibly can about the world. My love of science stems from the fact that we can use it to understand (almost) all of what we see around us.
Today I went back for new memories, he once again placed a hand on my back. This time i saw something else. It was something called a “color”, all things have them. I saw a color called
Few people would disagree that the study of science is a vital part of the world we live in. It is when you take a step back and assess why is true that you are able to appreciate science for it’s many contributions to our daily lives. When thinking of science, people commonly think of some high school or college laboratories filled with students working with Bunsen burners and beakers bubbling with colored liquids, but science goes far beyond the walls of these educational facilities. Science can be found not only in laboratories and classrooms, but also outside in a meadow, or in the kitchen of a restaurant, or even in the night sky. From pharmaceutical labs that create medication to helps people fight diseases, to a seventh grade class excited to launch their hand-crafted rockets, to understanding that scientific theories are used to better describe natural occurrences; science is everywhere, and is utilized in all different types of mediums. It is important to remember that science plays a crucial role in society and each person individually because constantly effecting us all in so many extraordinary ways.
My interest in science dates back to my years in high school, where I excelled in physics, chemistry, and math. When I was a senior, I took a first-year calculus course at a local college (such an advanced-level class was not available in high school) and earned an A. It seemed only logical that I pursue a career in electrical engineering.
Make science fun- some experts believe that science should be taught to children at an early age so that when their grown the interest and love of science won’t fade easily.
One of the most impactful experiences I had in college was my trip to Madagascar. It is one thing to see the disparities in healthcare from afar, especially the accessibility of it, and another to actually experience what someone else goes through in their search for medical care. Our group of three students and our professor decided to trek an hour up a slippery, heavily inclined, and narrow path barefoot climbing the mountain. Not only was this experience absolutely terrifying, it was completely eye opening. There were many people that inhabited the top of the mountain and in speaking to some of them, I realized that the closest doctor was at least an hour away. In Madagascar, there was no such thing as urgent care. Through this experience, I gained an increased awareness and different perspective of the issues in the accessibility of healthcare to rural populations. This further justified my desire to not only go on medical missions, but also to set up clinics in rural parts of India. Furthermore, it helped me solidify my desire in becoming a
I have taken several science courses throughout my educational career. My opinion toward all subjects began to form in grade school. I found my areas of strength and my areas of weakness. I am a realist, so I grasp onto quantitative data and what is actually there. Naturally, I drifted more toward math because all the information need was there. Throughout grade school, I always questioned how the information being taught would benefit me in life. I could make a case for math, reading, and language arts. However, I struggled to understand why I need to know some of the science concepts being taught. It was hard for me to grasp the abstract concepts that science is centered around. I learn the best when I have manipulatives that go along with a lesson.
