Personal Statement: A Career As A Social Worker

I think every person was put on earth to have an good life and to be treated humanely, and I was put here to make that happen. I always wanted to be a social worker with a purpose. They counsel children that have experienced trauma. They not only counsel children but families in need. They also help find resources for families, or they help find better families for children in dangerous situations. Social workers can really have an impact on people and really motivate them. Some social workers turn into mentors if it’s needed. Social workers are great people with a hard job on their hands.
Having this career will mean alot to me. I love working with kids that start from nothing so that I can help them grow up with the right mindset. Teaching them about the real world and knowing I made an impact on somebody life would really make me feel like a hero. I know as a social worker, I would change the small communities around me and eventually go around the world to continue helping people who experienced trauma.

This is something I really want to do and getting there is not going to be easy.
Knowing the history of a career is so important.

“Since the first social work class was offered in the summer of 1898 at Columbia University, social workers have led the way developing private and charitable organizations to serve people in need.” Being a social worker is a big deal to the community, it has been a around for a very long time dealing with different cases for high to low. “Today, Americans enjoy many privileges because early social workers saw miseries and injustices and took action, inspiring others along the way. Many of the benefits we take for granted came about because social workers—working with families and institutions—spoke out against abuse and neglect.” Being in this career is very powerful. “The social work profession celebrated its Centennial in 1998. That year, several important artifacts from across the country were donated to the Smithsonian Institution to commemorate 100 years of professional social work in the United

States.”
“Social work pioneer Jane Addams was one of the first women to receive a Nobel Peace Prize, which was awarded in 1931. Known best for establishing settlement houses in Chicago for immigrants in the early 1900s, Addams was a dedicated community organizer and peace activist.” Outside of that Jane was also a pacifist and peace activist. “In addition to her work at the Hull House, Addams began serving on Chicago's Board of Education in 1905, later chairing its the School Management Committee. Five years later, in 1910, she became the first female president of the National Conference of Charities and Corrections (later renamed the National Conference of Social Work). She went on to establish the National Federation of Settlements the following year, holding that organization's top post for more than two decades thereafter.”
One thing I know about this career you have to have patience, positive attitudes, and I will always have a motto to tell my clients. To be in the a social worker, you must have a degree in social work from a college or university program accredited by the Council on Social Work Education. “The undergraduate degree is the Bachelor of Social Work (BSW). Graduate degrees include the Master of Social Work (MSW) and the Doctorate in Social Work (DSW) or PhD. An MSW is required to provide therapy.” You should always have a uplifting spirit towards your clients because they already be going threw alot and if you provide them we good vibes it can make them feel much better.
It's going to take a lot for me to reach my goal of being a social worker. I have to work very hard to satisfy my needs in being a social worker.I will work on reaching my goal by using my online resources, doing volunteer work at a local shelter, and also helping my friends that barely have anything by starting a group of teens counseling section. It will not just help them but me to, because I can also learn about different situations around my community.
When I enter this career I do not just what to remain local but to go worldwide. Helping children all over the world will be a huge accomplishment for me and them. I also will build clothes drives and shelters(teen centers). I will start with my community because I see a lot of harmful things every minute the clock tick. I also will provide jobs for local homeless people, because everyone should live a great life.
