For as long as I could remember, I have wanted to help people. A stereotypical child dreamt of being a doctor, teacher, or even an astronaut; but my vision was instead something that has shaped my actions and decisions throughout my life. As soon as I turned 16, I got my Certified Nursing Assistant certification. I started working in the Heritage of Elmwood Nursing Home to help the residents there that were unable to help themselves. After working there for two years, I realized Nursing wasn’t the career path for me, I developed a passion for oral health.This intuitive notion solidified after completing a job shadow at the Spring Valley Dentistry. I watch the interactions between the hygienists and their patients. I recognized my destiny, to devote my career …show more content…

They have shaped me into the dedicated team mate I am today. Ever since I could remember I have been swinging a bat, dribbling a basketball or just being involved in some kind of sport. They have taught me teamwork, hard work ethic, perseverance, and humility. I continued to build on theses skills by participating in FFA, National Honor Society,FCCLA, Student Council, Spanish Club, Choir, Band, and Sports. My love for people grew as I work with people of all ages more. When I didn 't get enough hours at the Nursing Home, I started working as a waitress at the Hearty Platter in Wilson. I had the opportunity to work with all kinds of people: infants to elderly, and of many different races, languages, cultures, and disabilities. I was fascinated to hear the stories they would tell. In turn, I developed essential communication skills. With the experiences of my two jobs, I was able to develop an openness and receptiveness for all people. I learned to become aware of other’s needs and to utilize conflict management skills and excellent listening skills in a variety of settings. These skills will help in my dental

    During my undergraduate years in college I wasn’t quite sure what I wanted to become when I “grew up”. I would study various professions and never felt like anything fit for me. One evening I sat down with my aunt, a nurse, and I was talking to her about how I couldn’t decide on a major and how frustrating it was to be in college feeling as if I did not have any direction. She looked at me with complete surprise on her face and said, “You aren’t applying for nursing school?” I stared at her for a moment because I was confused as to why she would ask me that.
