Personal Strategy
I have different goals that affect different areas in my life. These goals are based on my own person goals I have set for myself, my family, and some that focus on the growth of my career. Each of these goals will require the use of my strengths and opportunities I poses and the idea that I will also need to overcome my weaknesses and work past my proposed threats. I personally believe without goals in mind, the chances of achieving personal growth decreases. However, for every goal in mind, there must be a strategic plan on how to achieve it.
SMART Goals These strategic plans consist of objectives you must complete to achieve your desired outcome. They are merely stepping stone to your goal and personal success. By achieving these objectives, it leads you closer and closer to achieving your desires and aspirations. In addition to having and meeting objectives, these objectives must have a time frame and be measurable. The best way to do this is by creating SMART goals. SMART stands for specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, and time. Having a specific goal is making the goal simple and significant. Keeping the goal measurable allows meaning and motivation. This goal is to achieve my Masters in Health Care Administration with honors. For this goal to be realistic, I must first attend and take the required courses for the degree. This is done by getting into the correct program and funding myself throughout the program. For myself to achieve honors, I will need to stay focused, turn my assignment in on time, and preform greatly within my courses. These objectives can be measured by means of grading and attendance. The SMART goal I set for myself was to eat healthier by the end of the semester. In the early part of this semester, I was successful. I gathered information on foods that would be good for me to eat and snack on throughout the day and I had my grocery list written before I went into the store to not get sidetracked. However, as the semester progressed my eating habits lacked and no longer went to get groceries and often forgot to eat if I did not set a reminder or my grandmother brought food. With such a high percentage of students, UMBC has taken the initiative to start a financial smarts course which informs students about how banking and credit work, how to budget their savings to pay for college and how to land a job after graduation, all which help to achieve a student 's financial SMART goals. Therefore, Walmart’s mission would be to let people know that they have low prices all day every day, insinuating that their products are affordable for everyone. This is a good mission because it gets the majority of the people in this world to want to go out and save money on their everyday necessities and even luxuries. The second step would be to set certain objectives and goals for the company as well. For example, CVS did use “Health is everything” as their mission and this didn’t just set out for a name it became a goal as well. Sooner or later you must set goals on your mission to understand the level that you need to get to and reach. Another example of a goal that I believe CVS set was to start selling healthier products. In the chapter it says that CVS stopped selling tobacco and other products that
By using the S.M.A.R.T. goal system, you are able to make your dreams a reality, one small step at a time. The first step in reaching a long-term goal is to understand the S.M.A.R.T. the goal process. Simply using the words specific, measurable, attainable, realistic, and time-bound can be a bit confusing. After a bit of research, I was able to better define the method. Using a S.M.A.R.T. Goal worksheet provided by Tatt (2012).
Goal setting is key in motivation; goals need to be clear, sharp, and realistic. To make these feel more achievable it is better to break these down into smaller medium-term goals and medium-term goals into short-term goals so that you have a clear connection between what one does every day and their long-term goals.
Personal strategic planning is the best method of getting the best out of myself. I do this by discovering the inborn and personal skills, develop the skills to the highest order which in return helps me to achieve satisfaction in whatsoever I do. The first thing I do here is to increase my return on energy and I consider and develop most of my ability to think well, and later my earning ability. Clarification of values helps me to know what are the most important values and virtues I needed to have in order to function well. I also have a personal mission statement which is “to be the best in every good thing I do”. Performing an audit over my personal values and determining the area of my excellence is what I put to work daily.
Since my passion is healthcare, I believe I should be the best in my area to care for the public as well as stakeholders in the community and abroad. Thus far I have achieved the goal to sustain my GPA. However, I am certainly taking the last two courses may present long working nights to support my grades. These goals need to be “SMART”. SMART goals is a term George Doran used in an article he posted called “There’s a S.M.A.R.T. Way to Write Management’s Goals and Objectives. This acronym stands for Specific, Measurable, Aggressive, Realistic, Time-Bound (Doran, 35-36). If a manager gives an employee a task, but it does not meet the “SMART” requirements, there is a strong chance the employee will not be able to reach that goal in an efficient way. The manager needs to make sure the goal is specific. If the goal is not clearly stated, or if the goal is misunderstood by the employee, then it may not be accomplished. The goal must also be measurable. There needs to be a way for the employee to show progress with the task at hand, it is tough to complete a task if there isn’t a tangible way to know if the goal is being completed. The goal needs to be attainable for the individual. The employee should have the right resources and knowledge to get the task done. This correlates with the realistic aspect of SMART goals. If the task given is not realistic, the employee may become frustrated when they cannot possibly reach the goal. Lastly, the manager should assign the employee a time-frame to complete the task, this will motivate the employee to complete the task at the highest level of efficiency
