In sociology class, we talk about different concepts that affect people in their everyday life. Starting with when they are born, people accept these concepts as their lifestyles. During this class, we learned about society and how people impact society as well as society impacting the lives and views of people. Society changes around the world and in different cultures even in people’s views. Throughout this class, I got to look at how society has affected my life and how these different concepts changed my views. Family, friends, church, school, etc. can changed how one looks at life and issues in the world. We looked at stereotyping and prejudices, alongside families, and religions. Each plays a role on how our lives end up and what we personally act like. Being born in the United States can even share an influence in my life. The United States is known for its independent nature compared to cultures such as, the Middle East. People here, according to our very own society, are supposed to be able to know how to make life decisions without the help of the family or to know how to live on their own. Unlike the United States, majority of other countries are family based. People there usually live with or next to their families. Now not saying families aren’t important because …show more content…
I come from a family based community, but a part of a very independent community. Each factor changes something about the lifestyle I am in. As well as each person in my life has a significant meaning to that life. Everyone has different thinking along with different views and values as we should know and respect. With all the differences we still all come together to become a society and this society impacts our lifestyles. But as the church we do not have to conform or accept the views of society, but we need to be like Jesus to everyone we
In today’s society, it is easy to spot someone blaming themselves for the occurrence of their personal life problems. For example, a single-mother may blame herself for not being able to support her children well due to a shortage of money and unavailability to find a decent job. Another could be a newly wed couple having daily arguments that may lead to their divorce, or women who are facing difficulties perceiving their housekeeping responsibilities and wanting to become something more than just a homemaker. These various private tensions may seem very personal. These dilemmas are all related to a bigger world called society and this is known as the sociological imagination. Sociological imagination suggests that people look at their own personal troubles as social issues and, in general try to connect their own individual encounters with the workings of society. The personal problems are closely related to societal issues such as unemployment, marriage, war and even the city life where the private troubles and the public issues become clearly apparent. With the understanding of the sociological imagination, I began to notice the daily choices I make, the classes I attend, the way I was raised by my parents, the group of people I choose to hang out with, the things I like to converse about with others are all somehow affected by public issues and what society tends to make us believe is right. There are many areas in my life where I feel that I am greatly affected by various sociological theories such as events dealing with gender and sexuality, family and culture, ethnicity and race, and social class and work.
Sociology is very complicated, it’s full of terms that can be misinterpreted. For example, social location is interpreted several ways. The most common it the assumption that it’s where you live, in actuality, it’s who you are, your social class, education, gender, race, ethnicity, and the culture. Your social location is affected, by sociological perspective, Henslin (2015) notes, “sociological perspective which stresses the social contexts where people live” (p. 2). As humans, we have to overcome social challenges every day some of us more than other.
There are many factors that have influenced my view of society, these factors are intrinsically linked with the social and political location that I hold within society. My social location is defined by my age, race, religion, gender, familial experiences, and income. All of these factors have influenced my social location, which in turn has had an impact on how I identify myself, as well as my view and understanding of society.
Similar to everyone else in the world, many sociological forces have greatly impacted my life and shaped the person that I am today. Throughout Sociology 110, learning what elements in the population’s lives affect the way they live their lives allowed me to consider what has personally affected my own. The person I am today can attribute the sociological forces such my gender, my not-so close knit family, my family’s low socioeconomic status, and sexism in the family. There are plenty of other sociological factors that have considerably rendered my person, however, I believe that the ones I mentioned are the most important factors that manipulated not only how I live my life, but me as a person as well, into my current self.
in addition to the previous example of biological factors can be changed due to sociological factors s this can affect not only how we view the world and how we interpret it and enjoy the society but how this is molded into us at a very early age by our parents and their social class background. 'The idea of what constitutes culture can be affected by class: for example, consumption of high culture such as opera or theatre need a disposal income not enjoyed by everyone. Class will influence the way in which parents socialize their children. Even such things as whether one is breastfed or smacked as a child are often a reflection of the social class one is born int. '(brown, K.et al 2009) Although sociology has mounted a powerful attack its opposition has a powerful defense that of science, Biological factors such as genders, age and disability play roles' While many scientists have hard evidence that human life is solely affected by biology, there is a very compelling counter argument all around us: nature vs Nurture. Giddens acknowledges gender socialization as an approach to gender studies. Gender socialization is "Learning of gender roles within help f social agencies such as the family, state and mass
Sociology is something I didn’t know about until I took this class. This class introduced sociology to me. I learned about how society basically made boys supposed to like blue and girls supposed to like pink. Sociology is “the systematic or scientific study of human society and social behavior, from large-scale institutions and mass culture to small groups and individual interactions” (Ferris and stein 2014: p9). Sociology is not something you just learn when you are just born. You learn about sociology throughout your life. Sociology is displayed around things such as being around different environments, friends, and family. Education is a sociology idea that can examine a person’s class and schooling. The higher the education you have,

Sociology stresses the relationship between society and individuals. Self-influences society through actions of the individual; the self emerges in and is a reflection of society. Society influences the self in a reciprocal fashion. Through shared language and meaning the individual is allowed to take the role of other through social interactions. The self and what individuals do is dependent to a large extent on the society where they live. There are two main factors that shape self and identity, social institutions and social location.
I am a sociology anthropology major. Previous classes of sociology introduced me to how society is situated. In other words how society views, thinks about and perceives life experiences. One example that I can remember from the past few months comes from my criminology course. I learned about how the general justice system treats criminals. The second example comes from another course I took, has to do with the social political and economic view and perception involving children. I learned that children’s behaviors, thoughts and perceptions about the world varies considerably with regard to societal culture.
Before I started taking the course of sociology I wasn’t really expecting to learn anything, it was just supposed to be an easy online class. However, that was not the case. It challenged my mind. I started to see sociology all around me, starting with family, then friends, and how I see things overall in general. The fact that we have an everyday life in which there are patterns in ways of living is what sets a platform for a sociological breakdown and for being a part in what we do. A better way of understanding ourselves. We use sociology in many ways every day. One central and important study of sociology is the study of everyday social life. Everyday life and sociology are definitely two different words and situations, but they tend to hold a close relationship. While sociology is the study of the human interaction, everyday life consists of everyday human interaction. Everyday life is filled by human beings interacting with one another, ideas, and emotions. Sociology studies the interactions with all of these and shows how mere interaction resulted in things such as ideas. For an example, race and ethnicity are important concepts in the field of sociology and are ones that are studied a great deal. Race plays a large role in everyday human interactions and sociologists want to study how, why, and what the outcomes are of these interactions. Current sociological theories focus mainly on how there are many different factors in our everyday items of life, like movies. We were assigned a final to write a review for a movie in sociological form. The movie that was on the list that also happened to be one of my favorite movies, Toy Story. When we were assigned the assignment, I never thought about how in-depth it was with sociol...

Wright mills in the 1950`s it is an overall understanding of that some of the things that happen in society may lead to a particular outcome. Mills said it is “the vivid awareness of the relationship between experience and wider society.” sociological imagination can also be defined as the ability to look at how sociological situations can unfold due to how everyone is different. The way we behave is shaped by the situation that we find ourselves in, the values and norms that we have and the way that other members of society act around us. It is also a way of thinking about how things in society have led to a particular outcome, and understanding of what led to that specific outcome. Sociological imagination is an ability to look at things socially and how they interact and influence each other gaining an understanding of different cultures and class systems.
This is a reflective writing essay, based on what I learned this semester in my sociology 1013.51 Introduction to Sociology. I am going to discuss a few of the concepts and lessons that I have learned in class and from my instructor.
Society plays a huge role in who people make friends with. The Society around is made up of people who spend each and every day together and are very familiar with each other. A community is a great example of a society which influences the acquaintances made by people and the company that they keep. For young ones growing up, a huge concern is with the company that they keep and the friends that they make. Someone with perfectly good intentions and a positive motive in life could be greatly influences by a group of people with opposite motives in life. This is how society plays an extremely important role in who we spend our time with and how we live our lives.
The field of social work is one that requires much self-reflection on the part of the worker. In doing so, it helps the worker better understand his or her own emotions and the thought processes that these emotions come from. The goal of this paper is to provide my own self-reflection, relating it to my own emotional intelligence in the domains of relationships, tolerance, flexibility, self-management, and emotional awareness, and my future plans and goals in Widener University’s MSW program.
Psychology deals with the study of mental processes and a variety of behaviors. In order to fully comprehend ourselves, we need to understand the causes of our behaviors and our outlook on life. Habits and behaviors have positive and negative effects in our life. When we know ourselves and learn about our unique personality, we can develop and pursue goals. Psychology also helps us to understand other people and the differences of people. Gaining this knowledge can improve the relationships and enhance our communication skills. Throughout the psychology course I gained knowledge in various areas, and the topics that impacted me the most included: the introvert, anxiety disorders, stress management, self discipline and how to develop strong relationships.
