As a 16 year old girl, I got my first job working at the local pool during the summer break. The pool was the place to be to get cooled off from those boiling sun rays. It was the perfect hang out for water games and fun. This was the description of a perfect job full of suntans and cute boys, or at least I thought. The summer season was coming closer to an end and the pool wasn’t extremely busy. It was a hot humid day, perfect for being in the water having fun. It was soon time for me to go up on stand one and begin my rotation. My responsibility was to watch the swimmers in and out of the pool for safety precautions. As the patrons were swimming having a blast, jamming to music and eating ice cream, an older man of about 40 years old swam …show more content…
After that didn’t work for him, he swam up to my stand and sat there staring at me while his son jumped off the boards. At this point, my heart began to race and I was extremely uncomfortable. It was a sunny day and I was shaking in my skin. I am in the furthest stand from the office and can’t get anyone’s attention for help. I looked at the clock and I had 8 more minutes until my rotation was over. Not knowing what to do, I just told myself to ignore him and nothing would happen. After I told myself to just breathe, he began flirting with me and making sexual comments. 8 minutes turned into an …show more content…
I sat there thinking of how I could tell my manager that this 40 year old man was flirting with me. How would he believe me? Finally I came to the conclusion that I would tell him immediately after I got off stand. And then finally, my rotation was over and I could go tell someone. I nearly ran to the office across the pool, knowing that he was watching me. He wanted me to swim in the pool with him, like that was going to happen. Freaked out, i ran into the office and asked to speak with my manager alone. He gladly said yes and we went for a walk outside of the pool. He asked me what was up and I told him the entire story. He asked if I had said anything and I said no that I ignored him. He then asked me if i wanted him to say something to the man. Of course I didn’t want to make the other man mad so I said no, that I just wanted him to watch when I went up on stand to make sure he didn’t come near me. He agreed and I felt like the world was lifted off my shoulders. After our talk, we came back to the pool and the man was walking out with his son and didn’t say anything else to me. Finally, he got the

I thought “ I do not want to give you my number, are you crazy?” So I told him I had to go to class, I’ll call him when I go to Florida.
There were less than twenty-five people in the water, so I was guarding by myself while the other lifeguards took a break. I took note of a woman who was in the water with three children under the age of ten years old. The children looked to be average swimmers for their age, but the mediocre supervision of their guardian concerned me. Ten minutes into my shift, I heard a scream for help from the deep end of the pool. As I turned around, I saw a young girl flailing her arms and struggling to keep her head above the water. It was one of the children that I had been keeping an eye on. I immediately jumped towards her and landed behind her, much to my own surprise. She was at least five metres away from me, but the apparent rush of adrenaline allowed me to jump right to her. I grabbed her around her waist and sat her on my hip in the standard lifeguard carry. I made my way to the side of the pool deck where my supervisor was waiting to help me reassure the child and report the
The two other boys looked at me with shock in their eyes and cleared the path for me to walk. As I walked up the boy he seemed to be afraid. I recall asking him what he is afraid of and he told me he was afraid of me because he thinks I’ll punch him in the stomach like I did with the other boy. I started to laugh, and he looked at me confused I told him I just did that because I wanted the cars back and because I wanted to play with him.

We load the bar. Each of us grabs a 20-kilogram plate and loads it on each of its ends. Then another one and finally one 5-kilogram plate on each side too. Four 20-kilogram plates, two 5-kilogram ones plus the weight of the bar, another 20 kilograms. It adds up to 110.
I was a late teen in high school, he had started off as a friend, but he had thought we were more than friends even though I stated he was a friend. It started off with him texting me five times a day. I told not to text me that much: I prefer not to text people, I barely text one person more than two texts a day but he didn’t listen. He started to text me more and more asking me what I was doing, who I was with. He told me explicit information that I still to this day don’t want to go over. When I finally cut off ties with him but he didn’t stop texting me he even showed up at my work even when I hadn’t told him were I worked. What scared me about this interaction was this all took place over one
Have you ever had a moment in time that seems like minutes or hours even though it was only a few seconds? Have you ever seen everything before you play out in slow motion, where you are aware of everything around you, yet not knowing what was going on? I have, and as I look back on it, I feel very blessed and protected. On March 21, 1987, I decided to take a little swim in our swimming pool and almost drowned.
Swimming has been my whole life, since I jumped into the pool for the very first time. I loved every aspect of swimming from the adrenaline running through my body during my races and getting to spend even more time with my friends and my sister, and the stress of big meets coming up in the schedule. Except everything didn't go according to plan after the first day of school when I got home and I saw my parents sitting by my sister on the coach and my sister was crying.
At first, I thought there was some problems with my Easy card so he kept staring at me, but then I found out there wasn’t any problem with my easy card, maybe it was just a little misunderstanding. However, he was still staring at me which made me feel awkward so I looked away. But when I turned my head, I saw the bus driver staring at my legs with his body leaning toward me. I could feel my face turned into blotchy red.
I listen to the constant roar of motors as the dirt bikes and go-carts race around the small track behind me. For a few (usually uneventful) hours every Tuesday, I work at the ticket and rider registration booth; collecting money and making everyone sign the if-you-die-you-can’t-sue-us forms. As usual, I was signing in a few riders and spectators at my station; as I listened to my ipod in one ear I completed my task that I had done hundreds of times before. However, this time something distracted me, something that made me lose my rhythm in completing the current customer’s registration. That something turned out not to be the usual bike, go-cart, or anything with a gas or break. That something turned out to be a guy. He stood in the line and watched the motocrossers lay the bikes sideways in the air and land it, making it look easy as pie. However, at that moment I couldn’t have cared less about the motocross race going on right next to me, there could have been a massive bike pile up and it wouldn’t have brought me out of this odd trance. Regarding looks, he seemed absolutely perfect. His skin was a nice tan probably from riding in the sun, his eyes were piercing blue and he was the perfect height. I quickly realized that I had been ignoring the customer that I was currently helping, and kept stealing glances his way to take another look. I finished up the current customer and sent him on his way, probably wondering why this girl was so distracted the entire time. Never the less I worked through the next customer quickly in order to have a chance to talk to this mysterious guy. I kept stealing glances over at him until finally it was his turn to be signed in. As he walked up I met his gaze and he smiled. He looked even more beau...
I grabbed the bin because I knew what he’s calling me for, and I enter the hallway and he starts to talk about how bad it was to write on the bin. I was on the verge of crying every word he says. He tells me I can leave, but before I left, I showed him that I cleaned the bin. He says, “Wow!
On our walk we talked about the lottery and if I was nervous. I told him that I was. He then asked me if I thought the lottery was a good idea, “Of course it is” I replied with excitement. I then reached my house.
I felt very manly. He and I went to the park to see what we could do there.
